Hi all,

New to the forums, been vaping for a few weeks - it's quickly become an expensive hobby! It appears I can't contribute until I have a few posts under my belt, so I though I would bore you all with my story so far.

I was a smoker for around 22 years, not quite a pack-a-day, usually around 12-15 a day. Honestly, despite nagging thoughts at the back of my head about my long-term health, I did enjoy smoking and wasn't looking to give it up. I'm a self-confessed stimulant junkie and nicotine a vice I enjoyed having. That was until my 6-year old boy wouldn't give his old man a hug one day because my "smoke smell" made him feel sick. Ouch. Shot through the heart. I love my kids more than anything else in this life and this was the kick up the .... I needed to get off the stinkers.

I'd attempted giving up a few times before, but never lasted more than a couple of days, but recently I'd seen these cigalike things, and bought a couple of the "equivalent to 40 cigs" 10-motives. Well, despite being incredibly unsatisfactory and bland, for the first time in 22 years I found I was able to use them to keep my nic-levels in check for about a week. I was however going through 1 "40 cigs" e-cig a day though and couldn't keep up with the expense. So I started looking online for a rechargable, refillable type device, and stumbled across this huge community of "vapers". I was instantly drawn in and impulse-bought some ego battery and some CE4 clearomizers along with some juice. I was hooked.

This was the beginning of an expensive, but thoroughly enjoyable 3 week journey to where I am now, with the beginning of a collection in front of me that consists of multiple ego-type batteries, a few random coloured clearomisers that will likely never get used, a couple of Kanger PT2's with some spare heads and glass tubes etc.. a load of drip tips, a Vamo V5 as my first VW/VW device, an Aspire Nautilus (wish I knew about this thing a few weeks ago!) and today I took receipt of my first little RDA (with wicking and coil material) and built my first few crappy coils (took about 3m of kanthal before I nailed it!). I also have around 20 bottles of various juices, and my desk is littered with a blowtorch, tweezers, cotton wool tools, chargers and other spare things like beauty rings, plinths and stands.

These past few weeks have been eye-opening, bewildering, fun, sometimes frustrating and unsatisfying (kit failures and vape tongue nearly made me reach for the tobacco again) but I am head-over-heels in love with vaping, and after trying dripping for the first time today, I fell in love all over again! I haven't touched a stinker in 25 days, and I'm bloody loving it. I'm still a nicotine addict of course, I'm not fooling myself or anyone else, but I'm getting my fix in a much healthier, more pleasurable way, and having little to no effect on the people around me. Besides, in 3 weeks I've already managed to get down from 24mg to 12mg, so setting myself a target of 6 for the end of the year!

My kids are happy I don't smell of smoke, and my wife is happy for my health and has been incredibly supportive of my new hobby - as well as forgiving of my many expensive dead-ends and mistakes. In fact, despite not being a smoker herself for nearly 10 years now, she actually got some 0nic juice because she loves the smell, tastes and experience so much, and I set her up with a little ego twist and CE6.

While typing this I'm dripping some Vapology Cappuccino in my new RDA, on my VAMO V5 (on my own coil and wick which I am shamelessly proud of!) and its the most relaxed I've felt in weeks.

So that's my story, apologies for being overly-long, and I look forward to talking with you all further and being an active contributor to ECF.

:toast: Great story. One the ways where "think of the children" makes sense.

You can't argue with the honesty of kids. If he said it, chances are loads of adults thought it but wouldn't say anything out of politeness. I can see where he is coming from too, I was walking behind a smoker today and had to stop to let him get further away, I never realised just how bad they smelled until I stopped smoking for a couple of weeks. They always used to smell so good when I needed a cig. It's amazing the hold they have over you.

Hi all,

Welcome. Good to have you along. I am originally from the SE.

I am impressed you were able to not smoke using 10 motives. I tried firstly E-Lites and they didn't help me very much. They did however help themselves to my bank balance. Given that it has now been proven that these little e-cigs don't even do 1/2 a packet (in terms of nicotine) it's a surprise they are still on sale with the "40 cigarettes" nonsense.

I'm down to 12mg these days. Going to 6 quite soon. Stopping by 2016. By 2016, E-lites and the tobacco companies (Vype, Vuse, Puritane) will be the only e-cigs left standing after the regulation.

Yeah I'm already finding I can't chain vape 12mg! Get lightheaded and woosy. I guess that's a good enough excuse to get more juice!

Learn to DIY, you will save a fortune on juice, be able to tweak your Nic, and have even more things to mess around with in your spare time :)

The thought had occurred to me. I'd need to sort out some security though, what with the wee nippers running round. Plus I'm a complete klutz and accident prone, not sure I'd trust myself with the heavy duty nic juice! Ejuice is inexpensive enough for me at the moment, I may look into DIY at a later date.
