Hello fellow vapors.

Just signed up to the forum, as every time I search for something e-cig related on Google you always pop up!

I have a question that I've read posts on before but I feel I may have a slightly different issue..

I've been vaping for a couple of months now, first time I've successfully got off the cigs without going back! I use Vapourlites (Electronic Cigarettes by Vapourlites | Vapourlites) as there's a local store that sells them and it's easier for me than ordering online (with the same prices too!)

I picked up two batteries initially, and I started to taste that dreaded metallic taste, but it only seemed to be linked with one battery, after I accidentally broke the USB charger part whilst it was charging, and I put the taste down to this.

I got rid of the battery and the other has been working fine up until today, and now this one seems to have the same metallic taste.

In my ignorance, I've been charging the batteries with an Apple iphone wall plug. Do you think it's possible I've ruined the batteries, as the output is 1A and the vapourlite wall plug is .5? Or is it possible I've been vaping too much, too often and I'm having problems with the cartomizers?

Many thanks
Joe

Hi and welcome to ECF. I doubt if the metallic taste is coming from the batteries. The likely culprit is the cartomizer...when they are used to the point of drying out/ lacking in juice the filler/ stuffing in the carto will be burned. This burnt taste cannot be removed and the carto must be changed.
Could also be you have Vapors Tongue. have you been drinking lottsa water?

Ha! This is excellent advice. Back when I started vaping this drove me absolutely mad, and it made me go on a shopping spree where I bought a drip tip in every single material I could find (anodized aluminum in different colors, Delrin, stainless steel, chrome). But all I could taste was metal, and I had to stop vaping for a week. But sure enough, I started keeping a glass of water filled to the brim next to my e-cigs and I never had the problem again.

Another thing to try (if this is indeed the problem) is to get your hands on a bottle of juice that's either hot cinnamon or very strong menthol, and see if that will jolt your tongue awake again.

The juice is a good idea from my experience. When I start to get vapers tongue, I gargle with grapefruit juice then drink a glass of it. I then stop vaping for about two hours. Seems to reboot my system.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I've previously emptied tips and not tasted it before, so I'll give it a rest until tomorrow (if I can hack it!) an keep hydrated and see what it's like. Thanks for the support too! :) I'll keep you all updated!

PG and VG are humectants...
A humectant is a substance used primarily in foods and cosmetic products to help retain moisture. These substances are called hygroscopic, which means that they are able to absorb ambient water. These hygroscopic compounds posses a chemical structure that attracts water from the atmosphere and binds it to various sites along the molecule.

When we inhale PG/ VG it "traps" the moisture in our mouth, throat and nasal area and thus the vapor. The real problem arises when the body is dehydrated and begins "stealing" moisture from other parts of the body to keep key organs hydrated. Add to that more than 3 cups of java or caffeine based soda drinks and severe dehydration can occur.
Ask any chemist and they will tell you the same. I drink 2+ liters of water per day and no more than 3 cups Java per day.

As for vapors tongue PG coats the tongue. I gargle daily with fresh lemon and water. Also try sucking on a sour candy to get the saliva glands active.

Welcome to the forum Jotterby.

I expect it's just the cartomisers. t.b.h.

I hope you are keeping track of how much these are costing you. Looks a rather expensive system. Do they do "40" cigarettes-worth?
You could probably be doing a lot better. I spent a fortune on this type of product, so I'm not going to pretend I think you are doing the right thing, but if you've quit tobacco...well done...really.

Good luck. If you decide to pursue using this system, then at least you know...I'm sorry.

I was thinking about what people had said, and I had a couple of old tips, so I tried them all compared to a new one and I think it is that it's just ran out. One of the used ones also tasted metallic but two of them didn't, so I'm guessing I've just vaped it dry! So thanks for the help!

With regards to cost, I was smoking around 30 a week which was costing about £13.. The pack of 5 tips is £9 and they last me about 2 weeks.. I know there are cheaper methods, but after trying out the disposables this felt like a good next step and it just works for me. And I am still saving :)

Welcome to ECF jotterby. Congrats on the switch.

Many thanks! I feel so much better for it, no more of the smells, or the unsociable 'popping out' for a cig.

Do other people find that they vape more than they smoked? I go for 16mg liquid as it's one of the stronger and I thought it would beat the cravings, but I have to stop myself from vaping away from sun up to sun down!

If in doubt go higher.

I am on 18 and have been for all bar a week of my time vaping. The most important thing is having sufficient nicotine.

Then the rest is relatively easy.

Haven't been home is 7 years but know how expensive cigs are from friends and family.

Welcome to ECF by the way. Probably the second best thing you did after buying the kit!
