+1 for the carto/tank setup. I too started a few years ago with the ego and direct dripping. Then tried quite a few different setups. The vivi Nova has a lot of fans but I didn't think it compared to a carto in terms of vapor and throat hit. On an ego battery I'd go with a low resistance carto. I was using a 1.25 ohm with an ego style battery and it vaped solid.

While I'm not an Ego fan at all, got one and quickly added it to the box of failures of which I have many. However since you are already vested in the Ego I would suggest the Viva Nova for vapor production. TH is not a product of the equipment as much as ir is the Nicotine level and PG level. Cartos all taste like metal compared to a tank system as they work with a filler which will quickly give you a burnt taste if you chain vape. Should you decide to invest in a new system the best off the shelf hardware for a beginner is a Volt X2 battery with a Clearomizer which will set you back about $35 from Smokeless Image who has a sub forum on here (ECF) and make a believer out of you. There are better systems but they go for far more money and require a certain level of experience to get the most out of them.

Totally disagree. My cartos never taste like metal. And they never taste burnt, and I chain vape regularly with a 3-hole carto/tank setup. Also Ive used a couple diff Vivi Novas and they didnt have near the vapor of a good carto. Also, throat hit is definitely affected by equipment, as well has nic level. Having the proper voltage to resistance is going to change how warm the vapor is, as well as how much vapor is produced. More vapor = more atomized juice being vaped in one drag. If voltage is too low for the resistance of the carto/atty or resistance is too high for the voltage, you'll get weak vapor production and the throat hit will suffer greatly as well.
