Hello, my name is Topdogie01. Im an addict (nicotine, the slow controlled breathing of cigarettes, the stress relief from the first drag, the close friendships formed with other smokers when forced to cramped uncomfortable locations just to smoke). i picked up my 2nd ecig ever last monday. hoping to switch to only vaping but not sure how soon ill be able to accomplish that.

A little about me. 22 years young. have a 2 year old son born with a heart defect (Hypoplastic Left Heart Sndrome) who has had 2 of 3 surgeries so far. used to be 5-8 cig a day smoker before i found out my son would be born with his heart condition and then i started smoking more to relieve stress. i was up to a PAD, to 1.5 PAD when stressed. i first tried a Blu ecig when a family member had one and decided that it wasnt for them. i had bought a few refill packs from Blu and decided that i couldnt keep paying that prices and started looking into refilling them myself. it never got beyond looking as i always decided i would do it later.

Fast forward to now where my son keeps wanting me to go outside and play with him, or doesnt want to sit with me after i have a cigarette because he says i smell bad. i had to stop smoking. or atleast use something else that doesnt make me smell. i was at my local mall (well.. not really local, but what i consider to be the local mall. Champaign, IL mall as the one in my town is more like a few stores cramped together with the town movie theater thrown in the mix.) and got ot talking to the Tececig sales rep. (asked if i smoked, what kind, how often, ect.. ) and got to that i had used a blue before but never got around to buying juice to refill them. they told me they had a promotion going on that i would save money if i brought in my Blu rechargable (they wont take disposable batteries for the promotion) batteries told the sales lady i would think on it and might be back later in the week to buy thier starter kit with juice to refill it.

The NEXT day i had decided i would test each line they offered (cig a like and manual button) to see which i liked and would use. i decided on the Pheonix line and got the Pro kit which came with 4 bottles of juice, car charger and tank atomizer (not sure if its the same as tanks here or not. but its a tank that i can pull out and see how much juice is left and when i need to refill so it works for me.) and i bought some extra tanks and a few extra bottles of juice. walked away $250 lighter, but felt like i could really work my way off analogs and smell better for my son. i get home and setup the thing and it tastes like burnt metal. wonder if i had ruined the atomizer right off the bat. so i keep using it and the taste is going away so i figure that must of been the primer fluid. went to walmart that night to get a bottle of glycerin to give me more vapor as i like seeing the vapor and blowing smoke rings when i smoke. (self entertainment... anyone else able to blow smoke "hearts"?) i mix the glycerin into my flavors and im loving what ive gotten so far. just not liking the fuzzy tongue feeling i have and this morning my tongue seemed like it was coated in 2 layers of dead skin. it all slid off as one chunk (eeewwww. really wierd texture). ive ordered some juices online from DIYflavorshack and cant wait till they get in. Hot Chocolate, Horchata, Jager bomb, and french vanilla.

Does anyone know what kind of connection the Tececig phoenix has so i could get other kinds of atomizers / mods? i asked thier tech support but claimed it was a custom built connection and that nothing else would work on it.

*sorry ive kinda rambled on. could of typed way more. have something important to do in 4 hours and cant sleep.*

It is early over here in Cali, so I admit, I only skimmed through your post. What stands out to me is that you spent 250$ on a set up that you do not enjoy and can not replace tanks on. I have set up SOO many friends with the Ego Twist with after market tanks - which you can get the whole set-up with charger for under 50$ - and they all love them. Very customizable and.... well it does the trick.

Ive heard of some people mixing their own stuff with just Glycerin from wall mart or what not and having similar issues. Do it right and order some PG / VG / Nic from a DIY website. Check out the DIY e juice forum here, TONS OF INFORMATION!

Sorry, I don't know what connection a Tececig has. Never heard of it. But, batteries don't last forever, and you need back-ups anyway. So, why not just buy a good starter kit to supplement what you already have.

Can you post a picture of what you have? Or a link? That way maybe we could recommend a starter kit that has a chance of being compatible, and you may just get lucky.

thats what the atomizers look like.

I do enjoy it and i bought a second battery and a few spare atomizers. but wonder if there is something better (there always is but lack of money dampens how often id like to get things, spent all of my ciggy money on it for the next 2 months getting this).

Hey Classwife &oldsoldier, pls make bad's blogs sticky at new members section so folks dont hafta keep posting links to it, just sayin' :)

Topdog: Hate to say this buddy but the proprietarty stuff from the mall kiosk might be more of a hinderance than a help, might wanna recoup your losses and go with a device that's more well known, which usually means ordering your gear online. You need 3 compnents to become a happy vaper / nonsmoker. The right juice, the right delivery device, the right battery. Well, four things actually; a little patience, too.

I'd use your gear til it's done then instead of buying more from that company, dump it (except for the juice) and try something more time-tested like a joyetech ego twist battery, a couple clearomizers, or a protank, or an iClear30.. the options are endless but good news, they'll give you better results than whatever you left the mall with.

I only bought one thing at those kiosks in the mall that I still use. It was a teddybear for my girl. Other than that, those kiosks are snakeoil.

ETA: The following link is to an article that gives you a little breakdown on whats what, hope it helps you like it did me. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...06-4-good-starters-setup-beginning-vapor.html

It looks to me like a Leo. I'm not sure though. But, even if I'm right, they've become very rare. Most places have phased them out already.

Unless you're absolutely sure that it'll match, it would be safer to just use them up while you're researching and ordering a new set-up, something more common and compatible.

Maybe if we keep bumping this up, someone who knows what type of connection it is, will eventually see this and chime in.

Welcome to ECF. I am only sorry you plunked down $250 at a mall kiosk for an underpowered and inferior ecig, but some of us had made the same or similar mistakes starting out so don't feel badly. Congrats on your decision to get off cigs and help your little guy and your own health.

$250 is a drop in the bucket compared to how much I threw away at Blu's refill cartos, and greensmoke, and njoy, and v4l, and... I completely understand your thought process at the time. The minute you realized, "hey there is something to this vaping thing that might just work, lets plan it out, stock up, and quit" And I'm glad you caught the "itch" to persue vaping past the gas-station starter kits.

I'll let you in on a 'lil secret - there is NO difference between a $30 vape and a $300 vape. Take it from me. Your money is going into compatibility, versatility, coolness factor, 'fiddling factor, battery life, and maintenence.

Another bit of advice, never buy your juice from the same place you buy your hardware. Go with a juice-only vendor. And forget about DIY juices at this stage in the game. You'll have your hands full with hardware homework. I'm 8 months into the game and I still won't mess with DIY (you should see me in the kitchen, aint pretty). If you still wanna DIY may I suggest a compromise. Go with a vendor called ECBlends http://www.ecblendflavors.com/ they allow SO many customizations and they are inexpensive.

2-3PAD here btw.

All I'm saying is give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, he'll eat for life. Give an octopus nunchuks, no one's ever eating fish again.

Hi

From what I read on some old threads the "Tececig Phoenix Kit" is a rebranded Boge Lea.

INNOKIN LEA PRODUCTS

I don't know anything about them (I was trying to figure out the threading). If you research info on the Lea there are vendors who still sell products for them, but the device is pretty outdated.

I'll chip in and agree with what BigHatPat and Ocelot have said. What you have, unfortunately, is an overpriced underacheiving vaping setup. Count your losses as a learning experience and move on to something more substantial. No fault of your own, you didn't know any better. The ecig industry is very new and there are vendors out there preying on the uninformed. The best news for the day is that you have found ECF where there is knowledge, experience, and support all in one place.

Get yourself an eGo startup setup as RedhatPat linked you to:http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3706-4-good-starters-setup-beginning-vapor.html

For a little more knowledge of what to choose to put on your battery, look at this article: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3230-1-proper-terminology-carto-tank-what-primer-juice-delivery-attachments.html

 (Hopefully these are not too "power pointy" for you.)

Any questions that you may have can be answered here on the forum by our more knowledgable and experienced vapors.

Hello and Welcome to ECF!! That does sound like quite a bit of money for your kit....ouch! I have to echo what RedheadPat said about checking out EC Blends. I just placed my first order with them on Friday, including something I created myself. And their sample prices are great! Good Luck, and welcome to the world of vaping!

Welcome and I read the whole thing. Sorry to hear about your son, but it sounds like he is doing okay ;). Vaping is a much better solution, and if you are high strung and sort of the anxious type, it is the only option. I quit smoking all together for 6 months and was a total jerk to everyone. I love vaping and its a hobby. It sounds like you are pretty intelligent and already soaking in the information. I like to use Ego T batteries, or C's with a pass-through option. I use mini vivi nova tanks since they can be washed and last longer (just avoid citrus juices, as it cracks all plastic). I thought of DIY with my juices, but I just keep ordering more and more flavors like I cant get enough. I am new so its fun. I like mtbaker vapors, High Brow Vapors, and Johnson's creek. As for the metal taste, its a burnt or clogged atomizer...........maybe due to the glycerin you are adding. I only use VG products, and I have ran into the burnt taste a few times and it really pisses me off. Its trial and error, but once you nail it, vaping is heaven. I dont even like the smell of regular ciggs around me now (snobbish I know). Hit me up if you have any other questions and welcome to vaping.

One more thing, I suggest ALWAYS getting back up batteries as having one break or die is beyond annoying if its the only thing you have. I have 4 ego batteries, 5 tanks, and juice on standby.

He is so right. Some people use such expensive equipment with voltage settings and that works for them. I love vaping and my ego batteries were 15-20 bucks a pop. As with most of us, I also started with Blu, but it didnt cut it and I even tried refilling my cartos.........but it got old and I got annoyed. Walked into a tobacco shop with my dad one Sunday and BAM, introduced to tanks and batteries and never looked back.
