Hello,

My name is Mark and I've been a smoker for a bit over 20 years now. I recently discovered the Xhale o2 e-cigs at 7-11, and they have so far helped me go from a pack a day down to about a pack every 3 days. I bought a second one as well because the battery life is so short and I would go back to smoking normal cigs because I was charging. Also, the refills, though they sound cheap, really aren't, since it seems they last maybe the equivalent of 5 cigs worth, even though they are advertised as lasting as long as a pack. Because of this, I have some questions, and though I have read a bunch so far before registering on this site, there is so much information, I am hoping someone has some form of breakdown or spreadsheet perhaps that can answer these questions. But first, I will tell you why I have decided to try the E-cigs and why I intend to stick with them (hopefully!)...

At work I noticed another guy "smoking" in the office and I did a double take! Then I noticed there was no scent and realized that was an E-cig that I have read about. He let me try it and it was good. He said he got it at a Shell station, but everywhere I went (even where he said he got it) didn't carry it. Then someone suggested 7-11. So I got the Xhale o2 kit from there and a set of cartridges. I was impressed on my first day and only smoked 2 normal cigs then. But on the second and third days, and so on, I've noticed that although they are helping me to cut back, they aren't going to be any cheaper than the real thing, and they aren't overly strong, so I doubt I would be able to use this as a device to completely quit smoking.

Fast forward a few weeks... I wish I discovered e-cigs a year ago. I have been in much pain for about a week with pleurisy, and after a CT Scan it's discovered that I have an 18mm nodule on my left lung and a 9mm one on my right lung. Well, the one on my right lung is on the edge and scraping against my chest wall basically (not trying to get overly medical here). So I am in the process of getting a referral to a pulmonary specialist for a biopsy to find out what these things are. Since they are so small, it's unlikely it's cancer, but it's still a possibility. I've had to talk to my boss and he's agreed to remove me from the schedule for a few weeks while I recover and get whatever help I need. So, I want to keep smoking (even if it's without nicotine eventually) because I enjoy it, but obviously I can not due to the possibility of something very bad happening right now. Oh, I guess I should mention that about 12 years ago I suffered a spontaneous pneumothorax (lung collapse), but the doctors said smoking was unrelated, otherwise I would have quit then. Guess I should have! Anyway, I have several questions and am hoping that someone is a mathematical person who likes spreadsheets and whatnot to determine things like the best bang for your buck. So, here goes...

I am looking for a good E-cig with the following qualities, either as an all-in-one kit, or as a combination of parts that have all of the following. I don't know if these expectations are realistic or not for a single E-cig, and if not, perhaps someone could help me realize what is realistic...

* A duration that will last all day on a full charge, assuming an average of about 15-20 puffs an hour.

* A good quality puff like you would get on a normal full flavor smoke, not that extra-light crap.

* At least 2 batteries.

* At least 2 atomizers (in case one goes bad).

* Easily refillable. I have actually had trouble finding good information on how to refill the various e-cigs, even with all the browsing I've done here so far.

* Quality liquid (don't care about special flavors just yet) that is a good price.

* Overall, not costing anywhere near what a carton of Camels would cost! This does not include the initial purchase, just the maintenance.

I am sure there are a couple things I am missing that I should add here for a beginner, so if you have suggestions please say so. I need to do whatever I can to get off tobacco as soon as possible before whatever I have becomes very bad (if it isn't already), so any quality information you have would be appreciated. I've gone through these forums, but there's just so much information... Ahh, I said that already. ;)

Thanks for your time, and if this is just some annoying "why don't you search the forums post" then please delete it. I am just very confused on what I should go for here.

P.S. The 900 mah review looked promising, but going to their site gives no info on how the refills are handled. If those are easily refilled, then it looks very promising. :D

OK
However, you wanted a 900 mah battery, the standard EGO comes with 650. I don't see a big purpose of 900 personally as by the time I use my 650, the other has long since been recharged. They charge very quickly. I vape heavy and no way i could vape enough to out puff 2 EGO batteries... It is possible, I suppose, but you would have to be one crazy vaping machine....

I vape a least 7 cartomizers a day and i do not even come close to getting to the point where 2 650 mah EGO batteries are an issue... just sayin...

Wow, that was fast. Thank you very much. I just looked over all that, and I think I could afford that right now. I have a couple more quick questions however, which you may or may not be able to really answer on of them...

How much does 10 ml last for if compared to a carton of Camel's for instance?

I am used to smoking anything from Marlboro's, Camel's, or Pall Mall's (Full Flavor). Do you have a recommendation on which "flavor" would be closest to any of these?

Again, thank you for such a quick response!

10ml, for the average vaper (2-3ml/day), would be 3-5 days worth. Assuming PAD (pack a day) smoker, maybe half a carton.

If you spend a lot of time at the computer, or in the car, I would suggest adding on at least 1 eGo USB battery. They cost just under 30USD, and have the same 650mah battery (should last you near a day, up to a day and a half depending on usage) that the starter set comes with, but the bottle screws off and allows you to plug it in while using it. I have one and have NEVER had it die, it's pretty much always attached to the computer/car so always charged until I go out at night. Other nice part is it uses a standard USD-mini b connector (easy to find, most digital cameras use the same one) so if you take a trip and forget the charger you can get a replacement anywhere.

Thanks for all the advice everyone! Being a World of Warcraft player, I expected a bunch of "you're such a noob" comments, but you guys seem to be much more mature and in focus of what it is I am looking for. I really appreciate it. I am very thankful for all the advice so far and look forward to any more that you can give. Val, the USB battery wasn't even something I was aware of. It sounds like when you are charging a cell phone and a call comes in, and you can answer it while still charging. Brilliant! I am on my computer a lot and would find something like this to be very handy.

I am not looking for a cheap solution, but at the same time I am looking at something that would cost maybe $100ish to get started with at least a couple week supply. So far, from what I am reading, this sounds about right. The USB battery sounds nice, but as long as I have two batteries, I may not even need it. I would need a car charger though since I deliver pizzas (when and if I can get back to work that is!).

Again, thank you everyone. And I am sorry to bring yet another boring "What should I get?" post that I am sure you guys get all the time. But so far you have summarized things really well for me and given me some products to look into. I will be waiting a few days before making any final decisions, especially if I am spending that kind of money. Since I have to take time from work due to these medical issues, I have no real paycheck anymore for a while. When you posted about an $80 investment for what seems to be a starter kit with a 2-3 week supply on top of it, well, it looks like I would break even with the cartons of pall malls I buy, by the middle of next month, if I were to purchase within the next few days. Then it looks like it would cost maybe $10 per "carton" if a PAD smoker, which I am not even close at this point.

Thanks!!!

If you decide to get an eGo USB passthrough, the best car adapter can be found at madvapes.com. It's a 2amp DC to USB car adapter that will be better than the .5amp adapters (which will give you problems at some time due to not producing enough power to the passthrough). I believe it's about $7. It's also advisable to buy a 2amp AC to USB wall adapter at madvapes.com for just under $10 for the same reason.

http://www.madvapes.com/AC-Chargers_c_15.html

Liberty-Flights.com has eGo 650mAh USB passthroughs for $25.99, which I believe is about the cheapest price at this time. The eGo battery will charge while the passthrough is plugged into a computer, wall adapter, or car adapter (preferably 2amp and don't use a computer USB port). The eGo battery can be removed from the passthrough cable and used anywhere without being plugged in. You'd probably want to buy two of these to have a backup battery.

http://www.liberty-flights.com/product.asp?id=49

Then you could buy 510 cartomizers. Litecigusa.net is a good place to get a box of 5 for $7.95 plus $2 shipping. You would probably want 10 or 15 cartos, so you could rotate them and they would last about 3 weeks or so.

http://www.litecigusa.net/510_Blank_Cartomizers_p/510bogesoftcartosb.htm

Then you could buy juice from any liquid supplier. A favorite of many posters here is freedomsmokeusa.com for high-quality juice. There's a 10% discount when you use the coupon code of "freedomsmokeusa."

Good luck and hope you enjoy vaping!

Wow, i really dont have much to add here. Some of it is just going to rehash what others have said.

It definately sounds like you want an eGo. I concur with others recomendations. A 'starter kit' consists of:

1 USB charger
1 Wall Adapter for the USB charger
2 Atomizers
2 Rechargable Lithium Ion Batteries (Manual not Automatic) (650V)
5 prefilled cartridges (round tip or flat tip)
1 Cone
Price: ~66 USD including shipping

I really think you'll like that. With the pattern of a 1.25 PAD smoker, my battery tends to last for 14 hours. Recharge time lasts for ~2 hours. And it comes with 2 batteries, not one. This unit will provide you with nice vapor production, reliability, and the hit tends to be very consistant. Most Ecigs need to be kept at full charge to get the best hit off them. The ego, with its larger battery life, will give you a nice hit for a longer period of time than the ones you are purchasing from 7-11.

As for the taste/feel of a traditional cigarette, that is an issue you will have to address with the proper fluid. Expect this to take some trial and error. Therefore, i highly advise starting with ordering a wide variety of 5 ML juices. Each 5 ml bottle will be about 3-5 USD. So you should have about 33 dollars lef tin your budget. You can try like 6-10 flavors. Do yourself a huge favor, do not restrict yourself to just tobacco flavors. I cannot tell you how many people start off thinking that only tobacco flavors will work for them, only to get a free sample tossed into their order and realize that they like something completely differant than tobacco much much more. Order a variety of flavors.

Average, people use 2-4 ml a day worth of fluid. This should, definately last you 2-3 weeks. Of course, once your flavors run low, youll probably want to refil those in larger quantities before you run dry.

As for maintenance:
Atomizers: Semidurable. They will burn out eventually. Thankfully you will definately know if ecigs are for you well before you burn one out. They cost 7-10 dollars. Last for 3 weeks - 3 months. It depends how often you clean it, and what hell you put it through.

Batteries: Semi Durable. Some say they last for 3 months worth of constant discharge/recharge cycles. They cost 15 dollars to purchase individually. And who knows, after a while you might want to get a differant color/voltage anyway.

Fluids: Consumable. Company's will mix these to your liking, to order. You will want to research how each componant effects your experience, so that you have an idea of what you would like to adjust. But dont wait to jump in, just for for a middle of the road mix of 50% VG/50% PG. And 18-24mg nicotine. To start. These are middle of the road values. If you find that you want a little extra of a particular sensation, people here can advise you on how to adjust the composition of your order.

Again, thanks for the incoming information here. A couple more questions before I make the jump... Some people are recommending cartomizers and some are recommending atomizers, and this is confusing me because I honestly know nothing about these. Which is better, and why? Is it based on dripping/dipping? Also, when refilling a cartridge, how often can you do this before you need to replace them? And lastly... Can you prefill your own empty cartridges, say 10 at a time, without worrying about leakage, or do you have to carry a bottle of liquid with you at all times to refill them just when you want to use them?

Thanks again.

oops, I forgot a question. I am terrible at math, so hopefully someone who's been vaping for a while will be able to answe this pretty easily. After all the initial purchases to get started, and assuming a PAD smoker, how much on average, on a monthly basis, would is cost to maintain liquids, cartridges, and any replacements/repairs needed? I figure some months would be higher than others if I need to replace batteries or what not, so an average number would be fine if you can provide one. I mean, it seems pretty clear that it will be much cheaper than regular cigs, so that's a no brainer anyway, but I am just wondering so I can try and prepare a budget in advance if needed. Thanks!

Here is what I think would be best to get started, so please give me your opinions on this. I also just did a little research on atomizers vs cartomizers, and it looks like cartomizers are less of a pain to use and fairly cheap, and last a while. Anyway, here's what I've come up with...

EGO
Electronic Cigarette Kits Including the Joye Ego Kit | Joye Ego Starter Kit | Joyetech Ego Products from LiteCigUSA!

Cartomizers (Should I get these or the low resistance ones? I prefer a good throat hit, but also want good battery life. Also, I would likely get 10-15 total (2-3 packages))
510 BOGE SOFT CAP Blank Cartomizers

Then various flavors to try out. The initial kit already has the two batteries, the wall and usb charger, 5 prefilled carts (which I would use up before I changed over to the cartomizers). Or should I just stick with the atomizers and be able to use up the extra money for different liquids? I don't honestly know whether to go atomizer, since it already comes with 2, or go with cartomizers. I've just been readingmuch better things about cartomizers.

OK
As far as the atomizer/cartomizer debate, the fanboys of that combo will be on me for sure - but I find it to have limited use. To me you get a few very good hits and then...marginal... and soon burnt taste - meaning you need to refill. You get that combo in the package, so see no reason to order extra atomizers and cartridges to start - as you may rarely use the combo - like me.

i think you need to order 10 cartomizers to start... 2 boxes. Whether you order 1 pre-filled and 1 blank - up to you. I think for a newb no harm in getting 1 box of pre-filled is a good idea simply so you will have something to puff right out of the box while you fiddle and learn about the other stuff... But the critics will be on me about how bad those taste... I KNOW all that already... LOL.

I would stay away from cartridges that you use with an atomizer ..they are a bit messy. It is good to have an atty and drip tip to taste flavors and to use at home. I would get a box of reg Boge 510s from LiteCig and a box of the LR resistance 510’s. You can prefill cartos and carry them with you I also usually carry a little 3ml bottle with me just in case.

Well I was intending to go ahead and use the atomizer right out of the box with the 5 prefilled carts that come with it, and then change over to the cartomizers when those carts were used up. This way I could get blank carts and a few different types of liquids and experiment on the flavors I will enjoy the most. I would likely get maybe 15 cartomizers and then 4-5 different liquids to try out. I just read about an atomic fireball liquid that sounded nice, so that would likely be one, as well as either a Camel or Pall Mall flavor as well.

But, based on what I posted on my previous post, other than the liquids, does that seem like a good start??

Thanks!
