My story,

About a year ago I went by a mall kiosk selling e-cigs - person behind the counter was less than knowledgeable but did offer to sell me a $200.00 starter kit - I walked away.

Three months ago a friend of mine started using e-cigs and indicated that they worked for him. SO ...
back the mall kiosk - lucked out. Was a person behind the counter who knew his products. Had a method for sterilizing tips and let me sample several products and juice flavors; knew immediately that vaping could replace analogues for me. Bought and Ego style battery, charger, 2 attys, and some juice (overpaid but); have not smoked a cigarette since August 29, 2011.

Went on-line to research e-cig safety and ran into this forum. The amount of accurate and verifiable information here is amazing. The manners and the helpfulness of the members is also amazing.

Have since purchased a: Provari, atomizers, other attys, DIY juice, DIY flavorings - truly believe that this time I can QUIT SMOKING.

Just want to thank everyone and to offer any help I can (such as it may be being a new user).

Again thanks to the ECF form and all members.

If I can do it anyone can do it....that's a load of bull. That is what the quit-smoking-now commercials all told us to make us want to try their crud.

Don't quit, switch. If you switched from Pepsi to Green Tea, would drinking a Pepsi after that make you any less of a green tea drinker? Nah, just means you had a Pepsi. Afterall you switched.

I switched to vaping over a year ago. I can still enjoy the smell of some tobacco and really not enjoy the smell of an average cig burning. I don't have any desire to smoke. My PV has much better flavor and I can change the flavor in a matter of seconds if I want.

I once quit smoking for 9 months and I wanted to smoke the entire time. I switched away from tobacco over 18 months ago and have no desire to return. This ain't quitting. I know what quitting is like and this ain't it.

Thanks for your opinion,

I "stopped smoking" for 2 years (cold turkey); I also wanted a cigarette everyday; defined as stopped because I started smoking again.

This time I am quitting tobacco smoking. I am vaping for the nicotine and the hand to mouth habit so i can quit smoking cigarettes. Eventually I will vape 0% nicotine juice.

After I get to 0% nicotine who knows??

Some go down, and some go down, in nicotine, quicker than others.

I had to go above 36mg to make the switch and am currently using 20mg.

It may look like we are all on the same path, but each of us taking a different route. At least here you can find someone who has been close to your path and warn you, or tell you what the next step could be, when encountering the adventure that always comes with a new journey.

I'm a big fan of Clemens so I always refer back to his line, "I don't know what all the fuss is about quitting smoking. Why. myself, I have quit over a thousand times!". The word "quit" has taken on addition meaning since that time. You'll find folks that cannot accept the concept of "quit" when your exhaling vapor in front of them, but if you refer to it as "switched" the same people accept that easily.

I just accept it and run with it, but you are free to engage the clueless at will.

Congratulations, bsb111, and welcome to ECF!

I think people put too much emphasis on the word QUIT. They make it out to be this huge monolith that needs to be scaled. In reality, vape more, smoke less, until you just don't pick up a cigarette anymore.

That's basically how it's been working for me. I went from three packs per day to just a few cigarettes per day. I still have some cigarettes, and I'll smoke a couple per day -- when I remember to. (I bought quite a few cartons the same day I received my PV starter plus e-liquids from Liberty Flights. I invested in those cigarettes so, by gum, I'm going to finish them.)

It's a no biggie. You'll find that, as you find the right e-liquids and the right hardware to hit your sweet spot, you'll smoke fewer and fewer cigarettes until one day you realize you're vaping exclusively.

Congrats man, October 7th will be my one year anniversary, and now a days I always keep a box of nicotine gum handy incase I have issues with my gear, like right now for example, my Joye 510 kit has died and I bought a couple 510's from the local tobacco stores, which are TOTAL CRAP, all the batteries have died except 1 which barely works, so I am using the gum when I have to until my new eGo kit comes in.
