I just wanted to show off my DIY wood box concept mod. I have made four of them and have been using them exclusively for several months now so I know they work great. Originally, I was going to just post pictures of them. Then I read the sticky on patent rights etc etc. I am not sure my design is all that, but it does have electrical considerations I have not seen before. And that is why I wanted to share it, partly to see what all you guys think, and mostly just to share the design idea and see if people would try to build it for themselves. My wood box is shaped like a bootstrap coffin, and doesnt have any electronics, wires or switches. As much as I would like to see this mass produced, I havent the slightest idea where to start, short of throwing money into the air. For now, it is a one off, that is until I see someone else had stumbled on the same design concept. I didnt plan to build a bootstrap coffin shape but the internals dictated the shape to me, if that makes any sense. These pics are not revealing the internals so I thought I could at least share them here although I do have more pics up on FB atm.

Hint: .32in solid copper grounding strap is bent in such a way that it acts like a telegraph switch. I did this out of necessity because I am broke atm. I needed to see what all the hype was for mech mods and sub ohming. I never really did any sub ohming except I did learn alot about using the ohms calculator and making various coils. I want to say my everyday vape is an 8 Volt build, but everyone seems to think stacking two IMR 350's is against the law. I have been doing it in secret for several months now. I first started with the 4 volt builds. Getting more and more frustrated making thicker and lower ohms coils, I could never get the 4 volts to heat them up fast enough with the batteries I have atm. With some of the heavy gauge coils that I built, I tried using 8 volts, and walla, success..

I am still learning.
Although my favorite coil was a 2.6 ohm coil, with 1.8 total resistance pulling 4.5 amps and 35 watts using 8 volts.
Currently, I have a 2 Ohms coil with 1.6 total resistance pulling 5 amps and 40 watts using 8 volts.
The problem for me is trying to figure out what gauge and at what ohms works best at 4 volts and perhaps not needing to stack 350's at 8 volts, but I dont have a high drain set of batteries and no quality dripper atty yet so I have to try and stay above 1 Ohm.
But with two banks in parallel, using four IMR 350's, so far, has proven to be safe, as far as I am concerned. They dont even get warm after chain vaping whereas the 4 volt builds do however warm up the two 650's.

The IMR 350 I have are rated at approx 6-10 amps continuous. I am pulling approx 1-2 amps from each. I do know that the bottom battery has to power through the top battery, hence the bottom battery is always the first to drain.

The wood top lid is actually a pine picket fence. The stain worked really well on that one and regrettably I have yet to reproduce it..lol
Perhaps, because I didnt mix or stir the varnish can really well that time.

the switch is a lever that runs from the bottom up and yes it seems the coffin shape was necessary. I didnt plan a coffin shape so much as I wanted to design the lever switch. I call this my C-Lever mod. C for Coffin, Lever for well, lever ie clever mod. lol. The reason is because afterwards, I realized I made a bootstrap coffin, and planned on trying to change the shape to more like a milk carton and just call the rest Lever mods. (I really like the way the taper feels over a square box though). The pos pin is a copper screw that bolts into the pos plate where I soldered the nut for it. As a result, the pos top of the battery is not in direct contact with the 510 pos connector pin they way I typically see in mech mods with a single battery. The pro is you can adjust the pos connection or contact between atty and the device. The con is the battery ended up off center, hence I made room for two parallel banks. I knew I was sacrificing voltage drop, but it is so minuscule and this was the only way I knew how to do it. Total resistance without the coil, is well under 1 Ohm.. I ponder what a typical mech mod resistance numbers are as the copper strap is equal to an 8 awg solid wire. Interesting how electricity works, with the batteries out, the atty in, switch closed, if you read between the battery pos and battery neg, you always get less ohms (what the battery sees) than what the coil is by itself. This is the part that still eludes me when deciding what coils to build for it. Although, I have started to doubt my FLUKE 7-600 meter.
Again, the best vape so far for me has been a 2 Ohm coil. 8V/4A/2R/32W, (the battery sees 1.8 Ohms), 2/28awg 11 wraps round some cut off screw driver, cotton on a AGA-T ii RTA, I tip it up-side-down to re-wet the cotton like a water cooler. I never got this kind of vape with tha AGAtii using typical methods. I actually pulled it out of the trash can to try this..lol

Madvapes sells a project box called the coffin. Its similar-- but yours, noone would mess with ya sees ya vape that. Im just gonna leave that guy alone..
Project Box Coffin White

Still mystified at how you activate the lever -- one of the sides hinged and movable?
Couple of people have went boom using li-ions stacked, not sledded side by side, none that I am aware of .
They were not IMR's tho so to be safest its worth it to build a dc/dc module and enjoy even more watts safer and longer lasting vape time..

my research showed that these IMR are safer than any other battery including alkalines that we see stacked in boom box radios. I am weary, but only if when I see them get too hot. Temperature, to me is the key to safety..
Besides, if I could learn to build a coil that vapes the same using 4 volts I would, but at such a low ohm as I see some folks cloud chasing, I'd be likely even more weary. I call what I got going half a cloud, which for me is plenty and way more than I can get from anything I bought ie SVD, evic and countless ego batteries. The evic goes to 5 volts max, the SVD goes to 6. Each has its own Ohms laws going for them, that I cant figure out. The main reason for building this was to study the numbers, which I still dont have down yet.

I think by dc/dc module you mean a regulator chip with variable volts and such. That would mean using wires and a fire button. Again, my SVD allows stacked 350's and I just dont see the logic behind why that is any less safe. To me, it is a potential hazard using batteries no matter.. look at the electric cars that have burnt up.. none went boom, but still there have been a few that I am aware of.

This pic shows what I think some people are trying to do with a 30 amp battery.
I dont get out much but I would love to see how people are making such huge clouds.
See, I just dont understand coil resistance versus total resistance when it comes to those set ups.
With all that I know, it still seems to always come down to trial and error.
I COULDNT TELL YOU EXACTLY what I have going on hereas far as the numbers goes, but it vapes awesome.
Many have told me I think too much.. perhaps they are right.

With 4 volts 30 amps .13 Ohms 120 watts, would that be the reading at the coil or total resistance..
also wouldnt 120 watts be like vaping a volcano I wonder.. I have enough trouble keeping my cotton from burning at what I think is 25-35 watts. lol besides, too hot and I lose flavor..

I mix 3/4 VG to 1/4 water soluble flavor at 6 mg/ml nic.
These guys are doing all VG and at low to no nic so I am told..
Now I am not trying to compete with them, but it has always been my complaint of not enopugh air flow and not enough production.
With this build I solved this for me at least..

I looked at the white coffin box..lmao.. I wouldnt know how to set that up like I did mine, plus it is plastic.. I'd melt it soldering wires.
Again, I dont have any wires electronics or switches, its just solid 32in copper ground strap inside.
If I was to buy anything again it would be a DNA 30 mod to see what it can and cannot do. But it is not rocket science it is just about getting a good vape.

Its absolutely beautiful work that is neat. Well done the switch is fantastic. You could probably vape under .1ohm with that set up.
Im a lineman by trade and when you were saying grounding strap, it didn't fully visualize; duh' yeah-- thats what we use on grounding rods..There's no mech other than the new all copper mechs that can compete, well done..

Hope my box when carry me to pasture is as purdy. lol
Good pictures nice collection.
Thanks

I never made it to linemen, but I too have done some rough ins and was a cable installer besides the electrical work I've done. So I know electricity right !? lol...

I think I may have the numbers game down, but as far as gauge goes, I am still guessing..
People are innovating and experimenting all kinds of ways, but when I ask them to describe it technically, there is a language barrier or age barrier one. As much as I would like to pick some of their brains, there is always the risk I might wind up dumber for it.

Glad you liked the album. One thing for sure is, this thing does seem to handle nicely when I go over board with my thick ... coils. lol

the center pin separates the two parallel battery banks, plus the atty needed to be centered on top. So, I flared it to match symmetrically and make building it easier. Now that I know the concept works, I am planning to build a slightly less morbid shape..lol
link sent.

The telescopic/universal batt use its genius, your never worried about if you have amps from batts to cover your sub coils. #8ga wire will cover over 60A.
I was assuming you push down on the atomizer at 1st until you explained the lever..

I personally would fuse it with a strap reset-able fuse. They are low resistance and would fit nicely in-line along the routed wall.

20A trip 13A hold ~120 watt device

link works IDK why its says invalid---..

asdaq, as I mentioned, I am basically afraid to share this device design concept for some reason. perhaps its all the criticism I have seen between my stacking batteries to my understanding of what and how everyone else is vaping these days.. oh and the terminology is well beyond me.. The last thing I remember reading was someone saying they made a parallel coil.. when I asked what they were talking about they explain it is two strands not twisted but side by side next to each other. I asked if they were both sharing the same ground and whether they were in contact with each other. They said yes, and I just smfh. We call this stranded where I come from but the idea that they constructed it in this way must have required the use of some new term, "Parallel coil".. I must have counted a half dozen expressions like this before I gave up all together learning from others and started experimenting on my own.

I feel like I have a good understanding of things, but mostly I stick with what I know. For now, that is single coil designs.

Visus, I appreciated the sharing of that thing, which I may have never seen before. I am not sure I understand what it is except your saying it is a re-settable fuse. a few questions come to mind. Are you tryng to make this device safer for me or safer for the public (ie idiot proof lol)... and I really wanted to utilize the less is more theory, like asdaq said, it is very mechnical, ie simple. besides, after I learned that people were sub ohming and looking for 30 amp batteries, I lost it and had to build this.. do we really think a fuse limit would be a benefit and or somehow make it safer hmmm.

However, if your right, and I can install this thing, perhaps it could be made to be safer for re-sell or resale.
I am not looking to get rich from it, but I would like to sleep at night.

asdaq, again, I am afraid to expose this in detail, so I appreciate the attention of the few of you that stumble upon this thread.
When I read the stickies for this board, I pondered the thought of getting help with patents and such, but basically I just wanted to get some feedback on it. I just dont think of it as something that is so unique that it needs to be protected legally speaking. But if I were selling them I might need to be..lol I dont know the first thing about it.
