Hi,

I'm 31 years old, and have been smoking for about 15 years. It has been a year since i started vaping. I started with those egos that were like 10 bucks and cheap juice and worked my way up to my newly purchased alien mod with tfv8 that ive been using for the past 3 mods. I've used misc cheapo online juices, then mount baker was my thing, now ive been using white label juice company because of the size of the bottles for the price. I finally bought my first bottle of premium juice today (Zuro's Fruit Loops).

Over the same time period I have been trying to help my wife kick the habit. Everytime I got a mod, I got her one similar (She has a TFV8, and a sigelii 150w now). She has been having numerous problems and I don't know what to do to help. Her tank leaks. But when I trade her tanks it doesn't leak for me and mine leaks for her. The juice she liked is no longer made and we can't find anyone that makes the same exact flavor. She says she has a hard time hitting it. We have read about PG/VG mixes but we can't come to a conclusion of where she needs to be. (I myself prefer highest VG possible).

She has been having numerous problems and I don't know what to do to help. Her tank leaks. But when I trade her tanks it doesn't leak for me and mine leaks for her. To be honest, I make my own juice. But I realize that's not for everyone. To be honest, there really cannot be that much difference between "premium" and regular. There are very few flavor companies, and they may just have a good supply of PG, VG, and nicotine. The bottles are nice. Chances are though, that there's no magic behind premium ejuices. It's just something labeled as premium and put in a special bottle. Maybe they put a bit higher percentage of flavors in.

The only way I could see they could call it premium, is if they have a tried and tested flavor that they replicate. It might have several different combinations of flavors instead of just one or two. Instead of just putting in "%5 strawberry and %5 vanilla custard, they may add %6 strawberry, %4 vanilla custard %2 Bavarian Cream, and %1 kiwi and %1 sour. More flavor additives might make the difference.

Now that's saying that you cannot create your own "custom" blend. For the longest time, I was ordering from Mt. Baker Vapor and mixing two, sometimes three of their juices to create my own likes. For a while I was buying Mt. Baker's Caramel, and mixing it with one of their custards. Sometimes I would mix some strawberry with their custards as well. It got to the point I would order an extra "shot" of strawberry, then some of the custard, then just giving it a shot of banana. People said it tasted great, and thought it was a premium fruit. I had an empty glass juice bottle, cleaned, rinsed it out, took off the label and called it my own premium. That's how I started with the juice making.

Just a few days ago, I ran across an old friend of mine from back in the BBS days. Guess what.. he ran a juice company. (higgy cigs, shameless plug). Before the FDA regulations came down, they would do a live video show, and have their viewers say "why not add....." and have them mix it and try it. the favorites ended up on their site for sale.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is that if you think something should be different, try mixing some juices to get the flavor you're looking for. If your wife wants it sweeter, think back on the juices that had a sweet taste, and try mixing different proportions of those. If you're looking for a particular nicotine level, just make sure all the flavors you're mixing have the same nicotine percentage (I.E. half of 6mg juice and the other half is 6mg juice, you'll still have a 6mg juice in the end). Maybe that will help your wife find something she likes.

Hi and welcome. We can help with the leaking problem, even if the solution is to get a different tank. The DIY forum is full of all kinds of good advice regarding making your own juice.

But in my experience, the key ingredient in quitting using vaping is desire on the part of the quitter.

If you use max VG and your wife prefers more PG, then she may be having issues vaping and leaking with sub0hm devices? It's kinda the only thing I can think of that would cause problems, other than user error or abuse of the mod/tank. (Not deliberate, unless your wife really, really wants to keep smoking, LOL, probably.) But more not understanding the limitations of the equipment, not closing off airholes in transit, etc. Your wife might benefit from some education in how to care for/use a tank, if she's taking it out and about.

Also, would your wife do better with a small, simple setup that's MTL? Did she have those issues trying that? Sometimes, some setups are better than others for some people... Which is why I ask.

I agree that DIY is where it's at, at least for me, today. I really enjoy making my own mixes at a fraction of what I would pay in a vape shop.

I am also agreeing slightly with Supertreker here that a bit of leaking and some taste issues didn't "ruin" vaping for me. I began to look for my own solutions for that here on this forum. Why are you doing for your wife what she should be doing for herself (finding solutions) rather than trying to find them for her? She'd be the best person to describe what she's experiencing and it is NOT your responsibility to find the perfect vape in order for *her* to quit smoking.

I sympathize a great deal, I have a smoking husband and I hate watching him do that to himself. Luckily, I have never hated tobacco smoke even after quitting, so apart from the odd, intense craving (usually after dinner) if he's smoking and I'm not, I just vape through that craving, since it is MY responsibility to be a vaper, regardless of what's happening around me. I plain have enough desire not to smoke, and in some of my experiments, I have leaked almost a tank full of juice, (coiling an RTA) and did not let it stop me, just kept coming here for advice.

My suggestion would be to invite her to post here and find her perfect vape and perfect flavor. If she doesn't want to, that speaks to motivation, IMO.

Best of luck, though, and congratulations on your own vaping success! Based on my own smoking habits, I don't try to get people to vape if they aren't ready/interested, and that includes my husband..... Because he is a free human being with his own wants, desires, experiences, and readiness.

Welcome and glad you joined.
Might want to start her back to the last atomizer that worked for her.
Not knowing her present PG/VG ratio, MTL or DL, where and when leaking occurs, hard to help.
A trip to your local B&M vape shop should help.

Mostly the juices she gets are 50/50 and thats what was the case when the leaking occured. I think its because it sat for days or weeks between uses. AS far as MTL, that could be something i could try for her. Are there any decent tanks to try? We do have 3 subtank minis that havent been used in over a year. Maybe ill load one of those up.

Chad, you could certainly do that and see if that works. Again, if tanks are sitting weeks or months, then they may leak, if filled, especially if airholes and whatnot aren't closed, there's also a certain amount of evaporation that may take place (I think?) if tanks sit for a long time.

I would try that, certainly, especially if she's barely using her equipment. Don't buy more, or have her come HERE to help herself choose a setup that she likes. TBH, it doesn't sound like she's ready to quit. She may enjoy returning to a MTL vape after trying DL though, so sure, set up the small tank and give it to her, and see how much she uses it. She just plain may not be ready to stop using, but you could certainly encourage her to dual use WITHOUT the expectation to quit right away, or even at all? When I was dual using without trying to quit, it did help me start vaping more, and when I finally *was* ready to quit, I was able to do so more easily.

Maybe if you just have a discussion about dual using and cutting back? I mean... It still sounds to me like you may be wanting your wife to quit more than she herself does, and either accept that and encourage her to dual use, or wait until she's ready.

I know my husband and the more I pressured him the less likely he will be to try vaping. I genuinely don't believe he's even in a quitting space right now, but if I see him move in that direction, I will gently suggest vaping as a "transition" help quit device, because he just plan doesn't want to be a vaper, even though when he tried e-cigs it was like 2007? He's seen the improvements in vaping and even helps me if I'm having issues (he's an engineer) but I can't get him to try a vape, even on a coil he basically *built himself.*

Best of luck to you and your wife. I do NOT think that leakage is the real issue here....

Hi Anna I totally agree what you're saying. Every time your explanation does it for me:thumbs:. My English and knowledge about vaping is not good enough to give a good advice. But yours in my opinion always nailed it:D

Aww.. Shelita . Thanks for the nice words. I haven't noticed problems with your English, but I know how hard it is to speak, let alone write, in another language. When my family went to France I was in middle school, and on my first scored spelling test (they gave me a few months to just learn French) I think I got a 2 out of 20 on it.

Once I ground my way up to doing better at the end of the year, I think I was at around 12/20, LOL. Gifts were given out at the end of the year, and I got a nice pen and an award for "most improved." My teacher was a sweetheart... :)
