It can also effect battery performance. A lower ohm coil build will require more amperage and will give you less battery life. Many people that complain about poor battery life and voltage sag when using a .2 ohm coil could easily fix their problems by simply using a higher resistance like .5 to .8 ohms. You will still make plenty of clouds trust me. However it will be less stress on your battery.

That's not necessarily true. At the same wattage, a .2 ohm coil draws exactly the same amps as a 1 ohm coil. Depending on the wire gauge and resulting coil mass either might require more watts, and in that case draw more amps.

Really? Not from anything I have seen. According to the math a 1 ohm coil at 15 watts draws 3.8 volts at 3.8 amps. A .2 ohm coil draws 1.75 volts at 8.6 amps.

I also have the aspire speeder which displays the voltage and amperage in real time. I set it to 15 watts and tested a 1.98 ohm coil, a .9 ohm coil and a .28 coil.

The 1.98 is 5.6 volts at 2.5 amps
.9 ohm coil is 4 volts at 3.5 amps
.28 ohm coil is 2 volts at 6.8 amps

Not to mention that you can't even vape the .28 coil at 15 watts. It won't eve get hot enough to produce vapor. I have to get up around 45 watts before it even starts to perform well enough to vape it. And that is right around 12 amps.

The amp display on the Speeder (and all other regulated mods I know of) show the output amps. Pretty much useless information. The amp drain at the battery is the same regardless of the resistance of the coil.

Battery voltage / watts = amps

Not that the amount draw is at its maximum with discharged batteries (so the opposite of mech mods). You should account for the inefficiency of the chipset as well, adding 10-15% to the amp calculation. 20 amp batteries are good up to about 50-60w per battery, unless the mod used discharges the batteries particularly low (like the Smok Alien).

KenD is correct, I am a dumb a@# lol. I completely forgot that on a regulated mod the battery doesn't see the resistance of the coil at all. It simply goes by wattage and voltage available.

Just to pacify myself I tested it. I used a multi meter with a clamp that reads amperage. Attached some wires to the battery contacts on the mod, then to the battery. Put the clamp around one of the leads and tested different resistances. I checked it at 3 ohms, 1 ohms and .5 ohms at 15 watts. The amperage at the battery lead was 4.2 amps at every resistance. It was a fully charged battery at 4.2 volts.

I turned the wattage down to 8 watts and the amperage did indeed drop. Don't remember what to and I forgot to write it down. I really just did it real quick to see if it would change.

However I have noticed that I tend to get a bit less battery life out of a 1 ohm coil than I do say a 1.8 coil if both are set to 15 watts.

It seems that we both agree though that using a very low ohm coil will most likely force you to up your wattage which will draw more amps and lower the battery life.

I apologize for giving incorrect information. And thank you for not roasting me over it Ken.

I love my Aromamizers. Have always had them built by others. Usually claptons. I have now moved far away from the guy that built them for me.
I took them all apart and cleaned them, removed old coils.
I cannot build a coil to go in here to save my life.
I wanted .3 ohms but not twisted or claptons. I want dual.
Yes I consulted Steam Engine but it is confusing me.
Can anybody just tell me what to use.
I have 24 gauge, 26, 27, 28 and 30

Welcome to my world.:D "Please just tell me what to do step by step. Explanations just confuse me and are not necessary. Thank you."

Well, you can head over to the coilbuilding forum and get some information by reading the pinned threads and such, or you can purchase prebuilt coils from elswhere, but you'll still have to install them. I'd love to give you step by step instructions but a) I am mentally too fried for that just at the moment as I organized all my e-liquid supplies and made 20 new juices and b) While I know some things about coil building, I certainly don't know everything and would hate to give you a massive fail.

Maybe someone will be along with further instructions? But, it is good to learn about what you are doing and why, has always been my thought. It's kind of a large learning curve, in my opinion, and I had a lot of fun learning the curve, honestly. It took a long time before I had a successful RTA up and running, but I enjoyed all my mistakes and errors, and they are what taught me the most.

JMO, as always, and I hope you get it figured out, hopefully in a way of your preference.... :)

You didn't say what kind of wire you have.
So if you want a .3ohm dual coil setup use kanthal A1 24g 7 wraps 3mm ID. According to Steam Engine that should give you what you want.
