Hello, my name is Matt and I am really trying to quite smoking. I've tried jsut about everything and thought that a e-cigarette would help. However so far not so good.....

So, I'll admit I didn't do a lot of research as I normally would have before buying my first e-cigarette. And it looks like it came back to haunt me already. I bought a smoke anywhere e-gold one starter kit just Friday and got it in the mail yesterday. Let it sit on the changer until the the indicator turned green then followed the directions step for step. All that happened was some juice leaked out of the end of it and I got a sweet taste in my mouth lol. The led lit up but, no vapor at all. So I put it back on the charger for another hour and still nothing. So I looked on line at possible issues. Turns out I bought crap, and the crap didn't work for a lot of people when they got it. And the company has a no refund policy and I have tried multiple times to contact them by phone and it just goes right to voice mail. So I am assuming I am just taking a loss this time and lesson learned.

Which leaves me where I am at now. I did some video watching on you tube, read some reviews, and a few post here and I am looking into getting another one as a final effort. I noticed a lot of people saying to get a mod or whatever but I think that might be a little out of my league seems how I have never successfully used one yet. I did see a lot of good thing s about this one though.

Janty electronic cigarettes, e-liquids and carts - eGo -XL- Set

Anyone here have any experience with this model? I am willing to give the e-cigarette one more chance and even if the device only works correctly for a month at this point I would be pleased. DOA just won't cut it though :(

Thanks,
Matt.

Welcome to the forum Matt, glad you found us and I'm sure many folks will come along with advice. The Ego is a great device and I'm sure you would be happy with it. But first lets talk about the kit you already have. When juice gets in your mouth it means that you have too much juice in the cart. Remove the mouthpiece and atomizer, blow hard throught the end of the atomizer that connects to the battery and catch the juice that flows out on a tissue. Do this a couple of times. Now re-attach your e-cig. Take a "starter" puff to warm up the atomizer- this should be enough of an effort to make the light come on at the end of your ecig. Now take a longer pull (making sure the light comes on), about 2-3 seconds, pulling the vapor into your mouth first, then inhale and exhale. You don't need to inhale as deeply as you did when smoking and don't hold the vapor in your lungs, if you hold it in too long you will not see any vapor upon exhale. Did you get anything that time? If not, try adding a little juice to the metal bridge in the atomizer (just 1-2 drops) reattach and try again. Let me know if this fixes it!

Hi and welcome to ECF. That kit is a 900 mah eGo. They're good units but that one is overpriced at $84.99. You can get a 750 mah Riva for ~$30, basically the same thing just a different brand. It's a little bit smaller battery but will still run quite a while on a charge. It'll last a lot longer than a month. Check here Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510. There's a 20% off button in the top left corner. If you're set on an eGo they've got them too.

The eGo is an excellent "starter PV" (personal vaporizer). Good choice on your part and 100% better than your first one. I can also tell you thay Janty's RY4 eliquid is "top notch" and a favorite of many.

You might want to check out a few other trusted suppliers for the same or similar PV with possibly a little better pricing. The Riva 510 is the same as the eGo but made by a different company. Here are a couple that are well supported on this forum:

E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings (make sure you click on the 20% off button)

Ego from Joyetech (a silver eGo)

Atomizers - Rocky Mountain Vapor you have reached the mountain top of electronic cigarettes!

As a new "vaper" I would suggest you start out with 24mg strength eliquid. It is the most common level used from polls on several forums including this one. You can always lessen the strength if you need to but you can't make it higher. Some start out with 36mg strength liquid. You might want to also get some blank cartomizers that you fill with your eliquid to see if you prefer that over atomizers. Some do and some use both.

Also, manual batteries like the eGo has is a much better option than the auto batteries you have with your SE model. There are many more issues with auto battiers.

Good Luck

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance.

Welcome to ECF,
Send that junk back and put your money on the recommendations here. Don't let that first company rip you off. Send it back and get your refund.
You CAN do this.....start with a decent nicotine level so it will curb your cravings. If not, you will continue to want cigaretters. I smoked for 40 years and started at 36mg of nicotine with no problems. It worked too cuz on vape day 2 I had my last cig. and it's been over 4 months.
Good luck. :thumb:

+2 on the Riva. I have an eGo. It's greate but, the Riva is reputed to be just as good and perhaps better. The deal at Liberty Flights is excellent. I ordered one for my sister in-law. Get some extra atomizers and a pack of carts. If you want to be able to try a few other things, get a drip tip and some cartomizers. All are available on that site.

+3 on the Riva510 lite bundle kit at Liberty Flights for $30 -- the price is excellent and the e-cig is top notch. And totally agree on adding a drip tip and some Boge 510 cartomizers too.

And BTW Ego and Riva 510 are both 510 threading, the most popular threading for cartomizers, adapters, anything new that comes out.

Re juice in your mouth - yes that can happen with carts. You'll probably start out using atomizer and carts - I recommend the precut blue foam stuffing for 510 carts from strictlyejuice.com (under $1 I think). When the white cart stuffing gets old can cranky, try replacing with the blue foam.

Juice dripped on the threaded end of the battery can kill automatic batteries but 510-type manual batteries are usually totally sealed on the end and much safer from juice leaks. You still need to keep the ends clean to get good contact and not get a film of dried juice in your charger, but a drip is not going to kill a battery.

And remember to buy eliquid with your kit. It may be Chinese PG liquid but you need some liquid to start (30ml usually recommended). After that start sampling all of the great US juice makers who offer PG/VG blends.

Hey thanks guys for all the useful info already!

@dee5,

I left it sitting on the table this morning before heading into work so I will give it at try when the battery is charged again.

A guy I work with asked how it went, I told him it worked very well. I said, I spent around 53 bucks for the device and shipping and it doesn't work But, that was my smoke money for the week so it was helping me quit already

Huge thanks again guys.

also one thing I noticed was, when inhaling I didn't notice the device getting warm even the slightest, I would think that it would right?

Not necessarily. The atomizers usually only get warm if you take several consecutive, long drags. If it doesn't get warm after doing that AND you don't see any vapor even with just the starter puffs, you might have a dead atomizer. But try blowing it out first and see what happens.

Not taking anything away from the previously mentioned suggestions, but here are some other great options for not a lot of money:

Get your post count up to 5 or more, wait an hour or less for the site to update, and send a private message to BradSmith if you want to order his mod kit. It has everything you'll need to get started except for attys, and he's now selling LR 510's for $4.00 each too. That's a heck of a bargin. Details in this thread.

A perfect compliment to Brad's mod can be had if you read this thread.

Which ever gear you decide to purchase and use will be money well spent if you stop smoking. You CAN do it.

While I'm not sure what model you have, it's possible the center post of the battery is not making contact with the center post of your atty or carto. It's worth a try to pull out on one of them, probably the carto if it's auto battery carto setup, and see if that will get it to work.

I am happy with my eGo knockoff I have, but I believe Janty offers the best warranty out there so you do get something for the extra you pay. It's not worth it to me, but it may be for others.

Thanks again guys!

I took a look at my rig this morning before going to work and the atty just didn't look right. It looked like it was smashed and didn't resemble any of the photo's I have seen. I know I made sure to see what position both pieces where in before inserting the carto for the first time. I watched a few video's and that was pointed out in one of them. So I am not sure it that is the case or not but, I tried everything that was mentioned here with out success.

I think I will go for the Vari 510, it seems darn close Janty eGo for half the cost, and many of you speak highly of it. So other then e-liquid and a drip kit, any a atty or two extra, what else should I get with it to help out as a first timer?

That's Riva not Vari, right? Rosa and I already pretty much covered the other stuff. An extra pack of carts, a couple extra atomizers, some Boge cartomizers, and a drip tip.

Juice is pretty subjective but, get small sizes several flavors and nic levels.

Yeah, that is what I meant .

I think I'll go ahead and order it tomorrow and be sure to ask if I have any more questions when it arrives. Thanks again to everyone for being so friendly and helpful! It is just amazing how friendly it is here, most forms I visit tend to be a little hard on people who are a little clueless about things. I've already added this to my favorites and look forward to future talk about vaping!

Well Matt, if you'd like to try to get what you have working in the mean time, I believe you either have a RN4081 or a RN4082.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...moking-everywhere-parts.html?highlight=rn4082 has some info which may be helpful to you, apparently SE has a Gold and a Gold 2.0 line which are different. If your atty isn't actually bad, I think the circuit just isn't being completed. If your LED is lighting up, I don't think it's the battery. If your atty doesn't have a center post you can SLIGHTLY pull out with a bent paperclip, there's a trick you can do with a stapled staple, cut it in half and bend into a _/\_ shape so you can drop the /\ into the hole on your atty and the _ _ portion will help the contact be made (I hope that makes sense).

Don't forget to get juice with your new Riva, and good luck.
