The Vamo V5 uses unprotected batteries. I use flat tops in mine. Some 18650s are rated as high as 3100 mAh - the higher they are, the longer the run time (at the same power level).

Since the Vamo is regulated and has a max current limiter, you don't need the high amp rated cells, although they will work fine, and may be sort of "future-proofing" should you decide to go to a mech or high power regulated some day.

Sony, if you can find real ones...
Samsung, Panasonic and Efest are all reasonably good. General advice has always been to avoid batteries with "fire" in the name.

Authentic AW Batteries - RTD Vapor is one good reliable source.

Any good 10 amp discharge, IMR or hybrid battery will do this job very well. These are almost always not protected which is fine. My preferences for this application from Baditude's blog:

Panasonic or Orbtronic hybrid
NCR18650PF (LiNiCOMnO2) 2900mAh 10A
NCR18650PD (LiNiCoAl) 2900mAh 10A

Samsung hybrid (LiNiCoMnP)
INR18650-25R 2500mAh 20A

LG hybrid
18650 HE2 2500mAh 20A

If you never want to use these batteries in a higher power mod or a mechanical, I would choose from the first two. Your maximum amp draw with the Vamo will not exceed 6 amps. The higher the mAh, the longer run time you generally get from a batt.

Do not buy batteries from Ebay, Amazon or direct from China unless you know the supplier sells only authentic batts. Also watch out for flat tops vs button tops. The Vamo uses flat tops, not sure if it takes the longer button tops too.

ETA: See Norrin's post below this one for more info on preferred battery choices for run time with the Vamo.

Not bad info, but the amp rating does matter especially when you consider that the Vamo will only go down to 3.5V IIRK (mine cuts out at 3.6v sometimes even higher) so the samsung and LG will probably last as long if not longer than the others and as they are not being stressed as much will keep their max charge longer and have more charges in them. The top 2 are fine if that's all you can get, but the bottom 2 are a much better choice even if you stick with regulated devices.

Very interesting Norrin and makes sense. I didn't know about the 3.5V. Thanks :thumb:

Those Samsung 25R's just keep coming down in price - $6.00 today - you'd be hard pressed to find a better battery at a comparable price OP. The linked vendor (Illumination Supply) also offer great customer service and usually ships within about 12-24hrs hours or so.

AW would be the other vendor I would recommend as David posted above. You'll pay a few more dollars, but the AW brand are very good in my opinion. I have AW batteries that are in my rotation with over 18 months use, and apart from a slight decrease in run-time, they are still going strong.

Just remember, unprotected IMR or the hybrids Ryedan posted above. Stay away from those ICR's.

Here's a comparison of one of each, the Efest is just a rewrapped samsung and although this won't be 100% because this is constant discharge and we don't do that we vaping it definately suggests that at the voltages we are talking about that the higher amp batteries will last at least as long as the higher mAh batteries. This applies to mechs too as you are going to swap them out about the same time if not sooner. People think that high mAh last longer and that's fine for something like a flashlight which will run right down to the battery cut out at about 2.7V, but most regulated devices cut out long before that Evolv DNA 40 for example has a 3.1V cut off.

I always thought the 2500mAh Efests were LG HE2's not 25R's. I know there was some speculation about them being the 25R's but someone on CPF proved that they were the LG's.

Either way, they are both good batteries. If I bought an efest battery and it was an HE2 or a 25R, I'd be happy.

Yes your right I think, don't think there will be that much difference between the 2 though, but don't have a link with the Samsungs discharge on it. If someone on CPF says it's fact it's probably true because those guys are insane about batteries.
