Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice because I'm getting frustrated with burning cotton wicks.

My current set up is an hcigar Stingray and an ehpro trident. I've got it set up with 2 micro coils made with 8 wraps of 28 gauge kanthal. I have tried using less cotton, using more, using a single coil ( not a micro) but I can never get more than a day out of my wicks and more recently, I'm only able to go for a few hours. Below is a pic of my current set up. Is there something inherent about the atty and mod that make it such that I can't use cotton or am I doing something wrong?

Ace.

Definitely need to wrap your coils tighter, you can tell by looking at them that they aren't heating evenly. This is a single coil 5 wrap micro with 22 kanthal. I've been vaping this all day and the cotton is still white. You want the cotton to slide through pretty easy, too much and you'll choke it and get dry hits and zap your cotton. uploadfromtaptalk1406092080550.jpguploadfromtaptalk1406092089430.jpg

Yeah... coils need to be pinched together. Are they also wicked through both ends so both have tails touching the deck? Remember liquid needs to wick from both sides to properly feed juice to both sides of the coils.

Jax's coils are pretty much textbook perfect, Chris's are pretty nice as well. I only have pictures of my Kayfun builds... but I'll throw one up to show another example of properly spaced Micro coils.

How do you like your Vulcan? Been thinking about picking one up. Can't beat the price!

I agree. See how your coils look kind of black where there is little to no wick on one end? There's your burnt taste right there.

I'm loving it. It vapes nicely. It could use a tad more airflow, but it's working well for me (not really a cloud chaser). The flavor is fantastic, and the build quality is quite good. Stays nice and cool, and the well is so deep I haven't had anything leak out yet. I thinks it's underpriced to be honest. Grab one.

All adding more cotton does is allow for more juice to be held. Make sure you're not wicking too tight. If you're basically forcing it in there the juice will not flow from the outer wick to the coil and your coils will get starved. When there's not enough juice being supplied to the coil you'll get a burnt taste. At 1.0 Ohms you should have no trouble with burning wick if you have wicked properly.

What did you use to wrap your coils on? 5/64 drill bit?

Try to make sure both strips of cotton are as even as possible. Also, make sure it's not too loose inside the coil. Loose is good, but too little is also not so good. Finally make sure both legs are sitting on the deck nicely. The heat will suck in the juice so make sure there is enough material touching the juice to supply it. You don't have to go bigger if not wanted. This is 24g wrapped around a 1.2 mm dowel.

This one is spaced, but done evenly, this works well too.

Edit: Forgot to add for those curious, the top atty reads at .25 and the bottom spaced parallel reads .4
