Hi there! My mom has some memory problems from a stroke many years ago, and just recently moved into an apartment building that required her to stop smoking after almost 60 years. We tried a few types of ecigarettes and she liked njoy Kings the best, and she has been doing great with them for over a month now. She used to smoke about a pack a day. The problem is that now she seems to smoke about 7 of the njoy's, and it's both hugely expensive and seems to go against everything I've read about how long they are supposed to last. Can anyone give me any advice as to why she's going through so many? She says they just stop working after a little bit. Thank you!

Hi Samsaunt and welcome to the forum!

The Njoy Kings are disposable and only last for (as stated on their website) about 180 puffs depending on how the person uses it. That means that if she's drawing hard or long, it might last less than 180 puffs.

There are two things you might try.
  • See if she likes the Recharge kits from Njoy (that way you only have to buy their cartridges)
  • See if she might want to step up to something like a spinner (so that you can get less expensive cartridges)

Hope this helps

The "cigalikes" aren't very reliable in my opinion. They burn quickly, they NEVER last as many puffs as they advertise, and they taste like garbage in my opinion. I went from smoking 3 packs a day to trying the cigalikes. what I would recommend is a ego-style battery. Ego C-twist is a great one and is what I moved up to. Gives you the option to turn the voltage up and down. And with a twist, go for a Kanger Evod tank. They are very reliable tanks. Instead of throwing away the whole thing when you're done, or changing the 'filter', you actually fill the tank with liquid, close it up, and vape away.

The only thing you have to change are the 'coils'. But I found that a coil used to last me approximately a week to two weeks. And they are only a dollar. It's more expensive up front, but it's worth the investment. It's a little tricky to start out, but once you get the hang of it, it's cake. I even got my wife's 83 year old relative vaping this way haha.

Vaping Njoy's is in fact a form of vaping. But there are much better options for better devices, and a better vaping experience out there.

The Njoy cigarettes are like a 87 Ford. Gets the job done but it's gonna leave you with a bumpy ride (lots of problems) while guzzling gas (go through them like no other).

If you get her upgraded to a spinner and tank system, it'll be like a 2014 Honda Accord. Smooth ride (easier to use) more pleasant experience (tastes and works better), better overall.

+1 on visiting the vape shop. At least then you and your Mom could talk to someone in person and your Mom could sample juice at their vape bar (if they have one).

What's the name of the shop? If they have an online site (or even yelp reviews) we could check them out and give you some idea of what to look for/at.

There is really nothing wrong with cig-sized devices. I have never used Njoy, but I used smaller batteries from Smokeless Image and Halo for my first 6 months...and sporadically for the first year. I don't know what age we are discussing (I'm 60+ years old), but some people are just more comfortable with smaller devices, especially in the beginning. There are any number of good rechargeable/refillable devices that could work for you.

It seems to me that your biggest issue may be flavor. You may have trouble finding a liquid that tastes like Njoy. That is why a trip to a local vape shop, where she could sample some different flavors, might be a good idea.

Yes - because it makes "vapor" - not smoke. There's nothing actually burning.
Shop would be great - to see all the options - the recomended one ("spinner") makes sense - it's one step up in SIZE from a cigaretter, but a whole lot more vapor and flavor. She can "turn it up" a little until it tastes the way she likes it, etc...
Hopefully, the people at the shop are helpful and friendly - if not, find another one!!

Thank you for all of the responses! I am embarrassed to say that I don't even know what vaping is. Is smoking Njoy's vaping? I just looked and there is a vape store right near us so should I just take her?

I would recommend that you visit the nearby shop BEFORE you take her there. See what it's like, what they have, how the shop looks, and how the people act.

"vape stores" range all the way from miserable to great, and taking her to a crappy shop won't help her. (Particularly if that "vape shop" primarily features items with 5-frond-leaf decorations!)

Personally, I would recommend that you get her a decent starter kit, with decent e-liquid, and deal with the exorbitant cost of the disposables until the good stuff shows up.

If your mom is set on smaller batteries, most vape shops don't specialize (or even carry) them. By all means, try to upgrade to a larger battery and tank, but if not, at least you can use the vape shop to find some acceptable flavors. Then, if necessary, you can get a cig-sized with refillable cartomizers to get your costs down.

A few years ago I tired those e-cigarettes, different brand, but they look like cigarettes. The battery was re-chargeable, the the little cartomizers inside the top piece were disposable. I don't know if it was me and I was doing something wrong but after just about an hour, maybe two of using it, I would have to put the thing back on the charger....and there was very little 'flavor' so I was puffing on it more than I probably should of been. I was so mad as I paid $200 for it at the mall.

Ya know, I would set your mom up with a basic ego style standard volt battery 900 mAh ( preferable so she can change them out)..along with some CE4 (disposible clearomizer) or CE5 clearomizer with replaceable coils (you don't have to throw the whole piece away, you simply replace the coil inside when it no longer works.)
It's not fancy or complicated set up, I mean really, if you use coupons, you can build an entire kit (2) batteries with chargers, 3 or 4 clearomizers, and coils if you go with the CE5 for less than $25. You can pick up the liquid that goes into the clearomizer at a local store near your mom or buy that online too.

I think she would have a much better experience with this over the Njoys, a longer battery life (and rechargeable) and the overall cost would be considerably less that what she is spending now...
Once she gets into it and decides she wants to continue with this kind of set up, she could always upgrade..

Welcome to ECF Sam, make yourself right at home :)
Since you say your mother has "memory" problems you might want to stick with some sort of cig-a-like. Halo has a fairly nice automatic battery with replaceable cartridges or tanks you might like to take a look at for her.

Whatever you do, don't get the manual battery ... the button is tiny!!
