Help! I don't like it---but I want to!

Sorry for the extra long post, but I really need help.

I vaped for the first time yesterday, and so far, I absolutely hate it! I am so upset because I really really wanted to love it! I wanted to be one of those people who just loved it so much they never smoked another analog. I must be doing something wrong.

Let me first say, the ecig itself is great. Got the SS Elite (M402) from Sharpsmoker. Shipping was lightening fast, communication was great, everything came packaged perfectly. Can't say enough good things about Kevin and Sharpsmoker.

The SS Elite fits what I wanted in an ecig to a T as well. It looks like an analog, it feels good in my hand, and so far the battery and atomizer seem to be working just as they should, in fact, better than I expected, so it's not the ecig's fault either.

I just absolutely cannot stand the taste. I know that sounds stupid from someone who smoked analogs. I mean, what could taste worse than an analog, right? Well, I think I found it.

At first I thought it was the primer in the atty, which it probably was, at first, and maybe it still is. Maybe I'm not really hitting this thing hard enough to burn off the primer because I started using it at 9:30 yesterday morning, vaped off and on all day yesterday (when I could force myself to do it, in between analogs) and 24 hours later that same battery is still going strong so maybe I haven't smoked it enough to burn off the primer yet.

But, then I think maybe I have cleared the primer because now the taste has changed somewhat from that first "Oh, good gawd! this is putrid!" taste. Now it's a kinda very very stale tobacco taste with a lingering sweet aftertaste, mixed with that same first awful taste, that is just as bad to me. In fact, it's making me nauseated. :( It's in my mouth and nose and it smells terrible. I'm the only one who can smell it though.

Please please tell me that all I need are my flavored juices from JC and it will all be better. They're on order, but since I ordered the "Welcome Kit," it's gonna be a while until I get them. With my ecig I got low and medium tobacco carts and medium menthol. I don't smoke menthol (ordered those for my sons), but I tried them too, still just as bad.

Also, strangely enough, when I do manage to get a good mouthful of vapor, when it hits my throat, it triggers a coughing fit like I've never smoked a cigarette before! I've smoked analogs for 30+ years, Marlboro Medium (generic equivalent). This vapor feels so harsh. Reminds me of the first time I lit an analog. Other times if I try to get a good puff, I end up with a mouthful of liquid.

Obviously, I'm not doing something (or many things) right. I really want to switch from analogs to vaping, but after reading and reading countless posts, I seem to be the only one who doesn't love this right out of the box! :-x

Has anybody else had a similar experience and then learned to love vaping? I sure hope so because I really need inspiration to keep at this.

Give it a chance if you really want to quit analogs, It definitely is not the same as smoking a cigarette. It fills that void by giving you the nicotine you so crave.

As for the taste..there are so many options. If you want to save money, get yourself some unflavored 36mg nicquid and cut it yourself with PG (propylene glycol) or VG (vegetable glycerin) and add your own flavors. There are so many yummy flavors out there. Check out the DIY section to give you more information.

It takes a while to get used to but I have to say that this is the best method for many of us to get off the analogs. Give it a chance..it will work.

Keep in mind that no ecig will ever taste like an analog. This can be disconcerting when you are new to vaping, but you will come to see it is a benefit.

You can vape with great flavors like caramel, butterscotch(my personal favorite), cherry, vanilla, watermelon, etc.... the list is endless.

You might want to try and get some flavorless liquid in your desired strength and add some of your own flavoring to it. Almost all supplier on this forum have this type of liquid. take a look at www.juicyliquid.com they have "Juice packs" that you can mix yourself to your desired flavor strength. They also feature super fast shipping and if you order an instock item, I can bet you will have it in a couple of days.........

As far as the coughing, you are inhaling in a somewhat different way than you did with an analog. Also you probably need to find the right strength of nicotine concentration for you. You can get the juice in concentrations ranging from 0mg (no nic) to 36mg(very, very strong) Chances are you haven't located your "comfort zone" yet. I urge you not to give up and to explore different flavors.

THere is a period of adjustment, and if you can find your way through it, you will be very happy with the results.

I tried a tobacco flavored cart once, and thought it tasted awful. I was lucky on my first try. My juice came in before the e-cig arrived, so I started fresh on the juice. I'm using vanilla, and love the flavor and smell. I like sweet tastes, so the vanilla did just fine for me.

I have medium strength, and have a couple bottles of heavy in my stash. I cut the medium with VG, which gets loads of vapor, and adds a bit more sweetness to the taste. Cutting the medium also cut down on that massive throat hit. The hit is still there, but is more like a standard analog hit.

If i get jumpy in the morning, I add a drop or two of the heavy nic to my e-cig to add that extra fix, and I'm good to go. You have to experiment with the juice to get your taste buds in line. it's different for everyone.

Think you'll find the sampler pack will make a huge difference compared to the supplied carts. I'm not familiar with the 402 but find with the pen style I need to take a slow long draw compared to cigs. I also found the taste of the supplied carts tolerable once the primer burned off. Try another cart and see if it's the same. Don't give up too quickly and good luck. Cheers!

I was pretty excited about trying one of these for the first time also and I got a little nervous when I took that first draw because it wasn't exactly what I was prepared for.

But...I kept at it and it handled my nic fits. I'm still getting used to the taste and still feeling the desire to go have an analog but the desire is more from habit than need.

Good luck!

This reminds me of when I got my NPRO and I had a variety of different carts to try. All I have to say is NJOY's tobacco tastes like VOMIT! LITERALLY!

My suggestion is, stop vaping tobacco flavors for now. Try other things, fruity things and the such. Strawberry and chocolate together is an awesome combination. Or try taking some vanilla ejuice, add 1 part nic liquid, 1 part glycerine, a bit of strawberry loranns and a bit of loranns champagne, that's also a pretty good vape. Just goof around with some flavors. After a few weeks, try the tobacco again, you might love it then. I know that after 3 months, janty's camel tastes like a dream! But then again, maybe janty just has a good camel, idk! But please, don't give up, you've already got the stuff, might as well keep trying. If you vape solid for a week or two and lay off the analogs, the analogs will start to not taste very well (at least that's what happened to me when I vaped for a week with no analogs and then tried an analog).

I am curious though if you got a bad atomizer. Sometimes atomizers are just bad from the get go, they work, but they taste putrid. I have had that happen a couple of times. Tell me this, do you get an ear burn when you take a drag on your e-cig? If so, your atomizer might not be wicking right and it might be dry, leading to a putrid flavor (usually accompanied by a horrible ear and throat burn). I have never done business with sharpsmoker, so I cannot speak towards the juice in their cartridges, but maybe their juice/carts just aren't for you? Like I said, my first was an NJOY and I thought their carts were BLECH, the tobacco was vomitty, but the others just didn't have flavor for me! I can't say I enjoyed it much.

Hang in there. If you really want to make the switch (partially or fully) you will be able to do it, just give it time and don't give up!

Oh this takes me back.....lol

I had exactly the same reaction as you when I first had a draw on an e-cig. It tasted vile !!

However, I was lucky, I had read lots of info on this site, and so was a little more prepared for it, hence I had ordered a bottle of Cherry juice, and an assortment of flavoured carts.

Now dont get me wrong here, to me, fruit flavours and smoking just didnt go together at all. I just couldnt get it into my head that it could work.

So I put the Tobacco carts all to one side and tried the flavoured ones.

Strawberry was the first, and I was pleasantly surprised, that it did leave my mouth with a taste that included a hint of strawberry. Then I tried Apple, that, although Low Strength, made me cough till I choked...lol, but it certainly gave me a throat hit...lol

Then I had a go at the Menthol ones, bearable, but gave me heartburn.

Lastly I tried the Cherry, by refilling the carts myself, and that was spot on...really nice.

So, over a couple of days I found myself getting used to the tastes, and began enjoying the experience.

Now 10 weeks on, I am now actually enjoying the Tobacco flavours. I think when your taste buds start to recover, you do find yourself willing to retry flavours that at first were horrendous.

So keep on trucking there, it will get better I promise !!

absolutely. It took me a bit under two weeks to really understand how to use my e-cig. After i felt comfortable with it, i stopped the analogs altogether. I still occasionally feel like i am missing something from the analogs, but i know it is more a mental thing than anything else.
Stick with it! It will come into itself if you give time.;)

The impression here is that everyone who tries vaping loves it the first time and immediately gives up smoking. Although I know that is true for some, but it is certainly not true for all. I bought my first e cig over a year ago and absolutely hated the taste. I did love the cute light and the vapor. I put it away and continued smoking. Sometimes I would get it out and try again to like it. Over time, I got used to the sweet taste. Then, I tried some different e cigs and flavors. I thought I would like menthol because I smoke Marlboro Smooths. I did not. I thought I would like spearmint. I did not. This January I bought a Janty Dura, and I love it. I love the throat hit, the vapor, and the taste. For me, not putting any pressure at all on myself to quit smoking has worked wonderfully. I still have some regular cigs, just not nearly as many as before (between 2-6 a day vs. a pack a day for 40 years) I smoke/vape what I feel like at the moment, but more often than not, I choose the Dura. My suggestion is to ease into it unless you have serious health issues that are forcing you to quit smoking immediately. Works for me.

Thanks for the help. I'm not giving up, but it sounds like I need to get some flavored juices QUICK!

I'm gonna order from somebody else and hope it gets here faster than the JC juice which still hasn't even been shipped yet.

Should I order blank carts, too? I know I can refill these once I get some juice, but will the original tobacco taste interfere with the flavors I refill them with? I thought I read somewhere about washing the stuffing or replacing the stuffing? Maybe I'll try that since I don't know where to get blank carts for the 402.

A question about the flavors...do they have taste like tobacco flavored with cherry, for example, or do you just taste cherry?

Geez, I thought I was prepared but I see I wasn't!

On a good note, my original battery and cart are still going strong since yesterday morning! Have to give the M402 thumbs up on that!

I wash the stuffing on mine, although after a few washes I think I'll need to replace it soon..it just isn't as fluffy as it used to be :)

How I do it is, I pull the stuffing out, (use a toothpick or something like that to get down the side and pull it out of the mouthpiece) and run it under hot tap water while rolling and squishing between my fingers. When it's good and rinsed I put it in a paper towel and tamp all the extra moisture out, then let airdry over night...pop back into the mouthpiece and use (or store, such as the case may be lol)

It would be good to get extra cartridges when you can find them, though, since you really need to wash them between switching flavors. Or at least this is what I've found, but this may be because Menthol is my main flavor...and if it's not thoroughly washed the next flavor tastes menthol too :)

You'll probably want more in due course, but for now, just wash and dry any cart, it will be fine. (In fact, it's good practice)
As a PS to my last post, you might want to consider washing your atty as well. If it a primer issue, this will help to get rid of it. (Just make sure that it has dried out before re-using, and, since you don't have any liquid yet to re-prime the atty, put a new cart on and leave it standing led-downwards for 5-10 minutes s that you don't try to vape it dry)

I too, would change the cart. If you have vaped it dry, it's gonna be nasty!!! The liquid will help. You need to keep the cart filling moist.
