So I went into my local smoke shop yesterday and purchase some white rhino e-liquid and a Tsunami 1000x chrome battery with a Kangertech mini protank II.
It was hitting fine but by the time I got home it had a terrible burnt taste then eventually stopped hitting at all. I took it back and the lady proceeded to switch the coil with new ones but kept getting burnt taste. She finally did and found one that was ok.
So got home and the same thing happened. Today I took it back and she did the same thing until finally giving me a new tank altogether. It seemed fine until about 2 hours of good vaping it is now a terrible burnt taste.
Idk what could be causing this but I'm really trying to quit smoking and this is getting frustrating. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Or anyone have the same issues with any of these products?
Any help would be appreciated !

If you are getting a burnt taste (we call those "dry hits"), if usually means your wick cannot pull the eliquid fast enough to keep up with your battery. There are a couple of things you can do:

1. Dial down your voltage (if your battery allow you to do this). This will vaporize the eliquid at a slower rate.
2. Take a sharp draw (or two) on your drip tip (without engaging your battery). This will pull more eliquid into the coil so that it will be available when you press the battery button and take a draw.

You will get the feel of this over time and develop a sense of how often you will need to do this to avoid "dry hits". The PG/VG ratio of your eliquid also comes into play, as VG is thicker than PG .

honestly, i threw my mini protank II in the trash. i could never get mine to work right. the protank coils cant wick fast enough for heavy chain vaping. and if youre using low ohm coils on a higher voltage they burn up SUPER fast. if im going to use a Kangertech product, its going to be a mini aerotank, the airflow adjustment helps A LOT with coil life and the coils seem to last longer to me. i recently bought 3 Aspire BDC tanks(vivi nova/mini nova look alikes) and they are great. i suggest those to any beginner, 1.8 ohm coils last me almost a week with 1 dry hit here and there.

if you have your heart set on the mini protank, ive heard a good way to keep them from dry hitting is to prime them after every couple puffs(just puff on it without pressing the button), but sometimes that leads to flooding a gurgling. some of the tanks on the market you have to fiddle with to make them work the way you need them too. i really hope that you can get yours working because i dont want to see anyone go back to cigarettes because they feel discouraged about their hardware.

Like Susan~S said, dial down your voltage if you can. I have used just about all the kangers, they like to be use a super low voltage. If you cant dial it down, see if you can do step 2. or 'priming' your wick.
IF neither of those work, see if you can get a higher resitance wick, like 2.5ish...

The asipre tanks are a far cry from ViVi Novas. novas are top wicks and Aspires are BDC, BOTTOM COIL! they're not even close. Just sayin.

i know but theyre made to LOOK like the Novas. not similar at all. i cant use any top coil tanks anymore, but theyre not high end like the Nautilus', which is why i recommend them to newer vapers. theyre plastic with a plastic drip tip and fixed airflow. same wicking idea as the nautilus bdc's(which never gave me problems by the way) just built slightly different. my dad uses nothing but kangertech so i bought him an aspire bdc and he likes it more than his aerotank mini(i prefer the aerotank mini though).

im not tryin to sound like an ahole either, man. nor an elitist. im FAIRLY new to this, not even at 4 months yet, but ive had SO MUCH trial and error in my short time that ive extensively researched and poured a ton of money into my experience to finally find something worth putting cigarettes down completely for. top coils didnt cut it and i couldnt afford 2 or 3 nautilus tanks. so i use one nautilus and i got the aspire bdc tanks from aquavaporcig.com, and i LOVE them. i also have an iclear x.1, that gets used daily. i chain vape and have serious flavor ADD so when im at home watchin tv or on the internet i switch tanks like every 15 minutes to a different flavor. its what does it for me. sorry if i sound like a prude, man. its hard to read emotion in internet.

Not all novas are top coil. Smoke NBC (nova bottom coil) is a great little tank. Had one and it outperformed my protank 3. Good buy for $5 @ madvapes

I hope that this doesn't sound too obvious but I would want to make sure it was a real Protank Mini. Most of the issues I have heard on the PT products were either knock offs or user error. It is true that Kanger will occasionally have crap coils right out of the box and there have been some that I have read that all of the 5 in a new pack were trash but in a year, it hasn't happened to me once. Even buying a real tank and fake coils can be a large issue.

Secondly, if your Rhino juice is high VG, that may be another issue based in wicking like suggested. Plus, the Protank Mini has a really airy draw. If you are chain vaping and the draw is airy, you won't pull enough juice to the coil. You can try plugging one of the air holes on the brushed colored collar but I would do this with a new coil.

If you are burning up a coil, changing things on an already trashed coil isn't going to fix it.

you can buy just the air flow controller of the suggested Aerotank mini above instead of buying all new gear. The base itself is only $3 and you can get it at Sun Vapors in CA (they have the v2 version of the AFC). I don't like the Aerotanks personally because a dual coil on a mid level tank is over-kill and more expensive and I never saw a difference in vape.

ETA. Try plugging the air hole with your finger so it isn't permanent but also, cover and release in your draw so you don't over heat your battery.
