Hi everyone.

I hope this is the right place to ask! Basically I gave up smoking 5 days ago and have been unassisted so far which I'm really proud of but I know I'm going to struggle as I've been a smoker for 18 years. I really want to find an e cig that is uncomplicated but that has good strength as I have always smoked strong cigarettes and the e cigs I have tried like the ones they sell in shops just arent strong enough and they don't have nice flavour. I have smoked menthol cigarettes for the past 6 years so want something with a good menthol pull but also something that has a tobacco taste aswell. I have no idea where to start, I have googled what the best options are but they seem to vary so much that I feel I'm back to square one. I am off on holiday next week and really want to find something that will be good enough not to make me slip up! I feel like I have no idea what I'm looking at and the jargon just confuses me!

Please help!!

For ease of use, buy two ego twist style batteries at 1100mah or more. This way, you can use one while the other is charging. Eventually you'll want to buy a third to have as a backup. In regards to toppers, I'd start with an evod tank or a Kanger t3s. If you want to get liquids with a citrus or cinnamon flavor, purchase a protank as it will not crack from the liquid. Myvaporstore has a nice starter pack where you get two ego style batteries (you can even choose a twist/spinner) and two toppers for just shy of 70

eliquid tip: many members do not enjoy vaping the same thing they smoked simply because it is too difficult to mimic the burning flavor. Might I suggest sticking with ice flavors... They have menthol plus another flavor. Peppermint is always a wonderful liquid for a menthol ex-smoker.

Strength, buy two levels to start. One at 18mg the other at 24 mg. the higher the level, the harder the hit is.

edit: do not worry if you vape too much at the start. You need to get over the initial hurdle of the transition before you worry about quantity.

Louise,

If you have a local shop around you, you may want to start there for your first one. I would honestly recommend a variable voltage ego (looks like a thick pen) style for your first step. I personally started with a variable voltage ego style with an kanger EVOD tank and that satisfied me, and kept me of cigs for the first 2 months. something like this eGo Spinner Variable Voltage Battery - 650mAh, 900mAh or 1300mAh - AltSmoke I have no experience with this particular model, just did a quick google search to give you an idea.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. I notice you're both in the US, I'm wondering if we have the same options here as you guys do? Is there any kind of brand that you would recommend as I want something that I can stick with for the time being. Was also thinking of buying some kind of starter pack that includes everything I will need. I saw something about Green Smoke. That has mixed reviews, is it any good? I do want something stronger strength and most of the other e cigs that look like cigarettes don't seem to have this option.

See when you start with voltage this is where I get lost. I really have no clue about e cigs and this is why I was going to go for a traditional style one that looks like a cigarette as it seems easier to assemble and charge. I'm sorry, I'm an absolute newbie when it comes to this, all I know is that the ones they do in the shops just arent strong enough.

I started with a Joyetech eCom. My reasoning for this was, coming off of a pack-a-day for 10 years, I wanted something that wouldn't break the bank if I decided I didn't like it. I second bholcomb22s suggestion of going to a vape shop if you have one available. Many times, they'll have some ecigs set up and can offer you a disposable tip to try different flavors/mods.

I've seen rave reviews of this kit, it's regulated at 4.2 volts, so it will be consistent for you. If that's not available in the uk, the other's suggestion of a vv ego type battery and bottom coil clearomizers is probably your best choice. Hth

Nice to see a MT user! I lived in Kalispell MT for 2.5 years!

Sorry don't mean to disrupt the thread, just had to say something!

If you were a heavy smoker, I would suggest the ego kits (they are known by many names--ego is the style of battery). Many people find that the ciga-like options do not work for them and either go back to smoking or move on to something better like... the egos. Also, just so you know GreenSmoke has been purchased by one of the Big Tobacco companies (this may or may not be important to you).

Here's a basic kit from a UK seller" EVOD 650 Kit [VE504] - £39.95 : Vape Escape I would say this would be the bare minimum of what you should get.

Hi.
You might like the ecab from joyetech, it's not mentioned much here, but I really like it.. Smaller than an ego, more cigarette like, but with refillable tanks and replaceable batteries. Can get from the electronic cigarette co.uk.
Recently I have been using my ego batteries with an aspire BDC tank which you can get from vape escape co.uk. I tried the evods and didn't like them, too airy for me, but the aspires are really nice.
I too have not gone for vv or VW, have found no need for them. Just recently bought a Kamry pipe, which I love.
Best of luck.

Don't be sorry! Everyone was new at some point!

This is why I really recommend you go to a shop IF possible. It's much easier to explain everything in person with the equipment in front of you. Variable voltage just means that you can change the voltage output of your ecig. If you feel better about it you can just get an ego that is NOT variable voltage.

If you were running something like a protank with a 2.5 ohm coil vs. a 1.5 ohm coil you would need more power going to the 2.5 ohm coil to get the same experience as a 1.5 ohm coil, because the 2.5 ohm coil has more resistance. (This is where variable voltage comes in handy) With vv you can change the voltage output to get the vape you are looking for...

I hope this helps a little

There's a lot of jargon, but you'll soon get used to it. I agree with most of the comments here. Get a kit with two complete e-cigs so you can switch out batteries. Variable voltage batteries (usually a dial on the bottom of the battery) are best because they allow you to control the amount of vape you will receive, but it's not critical. A pack a day smoker will need two 650mah batteries minimum. Start with 18mg/ml liquid and see how it goes. Get a couple of flavors and keep them in separate tanks - it's easier to start. Kanger is a popular brand. Don't worry about the initial investment - you'll make it all back in a month of not buying cigarettes.

Hi Louise.

If you want a GOOD e-cig, it won't look like a cigarette. I hope you already know that. Reviews for UK cig-a-likes are often bogus/fake. Or, they are posted by people full of enthusiasm for what they have bought and have yet to discover the truth about this type of e-cig.
PLEASE do not buy them.

I don't personally like to buy or recommend "brand" products. If you find yourself on a website that brands all their products and makes outrageous claims, walk away.

Go to a proper Vaping shop... or visit one online.

Try

Vape Escape
Myepack
UKecigcabin

These will sell generic type equipment by the top manufacturers.

Of the top of my head, I would suggest an "EVOD" kit or "mini Protank" kit to get started.

if you get confused, ask on AAEC UK.

Do not buy Green smoke. They are only the smallest bit better than shop ones.... and they are a rip-off.

I vape 1.5ml of liquid a day. (I smoked 15 hand rolled). It costs me 50p to fill my e-cig.

These products will cost you THOUSANDS of pounds a year to use, and they are very unlikely to provide effective nicotine.

A cig-a-like refill should cost £1 or £1.50 for a big one (they are rare).
One brand charges £3.99.

are they selling for their customers, or their profit?

seriously, the e-cig industry is still very new... people don't know what should cost what...until they do, companies will take advantage. :)

PS, I spent £500+ on shop/supermarket ecigs, and cut down from 15 to 10 a day. Please don't follow this path.
