Hi, First post here. Been lurking a while. analog free since July 7th. With my 510.

I got a bunch of Sony US18650GR Li-ion, 3.6V. 2400mAh batteries from a Old Dell laptop battery. Will these power a nico stick? If so Is there a charger that will charge these? They seem similar to the 14500 batts. But I just want to know how similar. Thanks for any input.

The 14500 is the same size (almost) as a AA battery, the 18650 (your Sony batteries), are a LOT bigger, nicostick boxes can only hold either 14500 or 10440.
Your options are limited by the size, but there are many.
A magnum if built in the appropriate sized flashlight, and id whatyou want is a box type, you need to look around the forum, there are a variety of ideas, from Altoids boxes to USB power packs modified to house a connector and switch in them.

don't forget the batteries from the laptop will no doubt be unprotected in their sperated form.
The protection circuit is /was built into the laptop.

Correct spot on! but I recently salvaged some 18650's from a Sony laptop and noticed no circuitry for protection, older battery packs from compaq laptops have the protection circuits as a part of the battery pack.
Is it possible new laptops are using 18650's with the built in protection circuit?

It would make no sense to have individually protected cells when it is much cheaper for them to use one single circuit in the battery pack for all of them.

I also salvaged 8 x 18500 unprotected batteries from a Sony notebook and have had no problems as long as I use a charger designed for that. Anyway this does not mean I recommend using unprotected batteries.
They can be really dangerous if not handled properly.

I second warp's comment - using multiple batteries and individual protection circuits on each is generally not a good idea - its better (costs, as well as proper operation) to use a single protection circuit for all of them.

Thanks for you insight! Much appreciated!
I now have so many 18650's I'm not sure what to do with them all.

Ok, I built a maddog torch, It's all wired up and reads 3.8 volts with my 18650's, and 5.9 volts with 2 cr123's. But it wont fire up my atty? I dont know why this is the issue, I pulled my good atty off my 510 and put it on the torch, my led lights but no vapor. Put the same atty back on my 510 stock battery and it works fine. Any one have this Happen? I would love to know why this is going on. I dont want to drop 150 + on a mod i can build my self.

Yeah thats off the battery connector I soldered on to the leads from the torch that the atty screws into. I cleaned the contacts just to make sure every thing is making good clean connections. could it be a cold joint or something. I was so frustrated last night I just put it down.

That has happened to so many of us, remember that reading voltage on the connector doesn't mean it is getting to the atomizer.

The most common problem is the center post in the atomizer is too far from the one in the connector or the other way around, causing it to not make good contact or non at all. It is not as simple as it sounds, you have to make sure if you add something in between to make sure it doesn't push either both sides too far in , it could cause the tiny wires inside to break off.

The 18560 is not fully charged, I need to buy a charger for them. But the 2 cr123's are full. I did the staple mod on the atty to assure good contact. I Have been testing with the 6 volt setup just hoping to hear it sizzle. But nothing..... Then I plug into my good old tiny 510 batt and get a few puffs and carry on Brain storming.

Side note. The led I am using was salvaged from a old cpu tower it is orange and Wired directly to the switch and the other side feeds the positive of the batt connector. could this be a problem? Just throwing that out there as I dont know where to start.

I really don't know the answer to that, but if I was you, I would be removing that LED to see if anything changes, since you already covered all other possibilities.
