Up until recently, I was using a DIY Boxer with SX350J. After a lot of use, the positive wire became damaged. I can repair it and make upgrades, but the box itself is also very beat up, so it isn't really worth it to me.

I really want a Whiteout Ares, but they haven't even begun shipping the dna and SX versions. So, the open source version is probably going to be longer than I can use my spare mod haha.

The rough part is that the Boxer kind of spoiled me with its small size and great features. What's worse is I've been out of the game since I bought it so I have no idea what is going on these days. Seems like there are a lot of DNA200 mods from China which strikes me as odd.

Criteria, from most to least important
  • Temp control: titanium support required.
  • Battery capacity: preferrably 2x 18650 unless it can be charged via USB.
  • Size: as small as possible if it doesn't interfere with the battery capacity.
  • DNA200 or SX350J: either/or. I've done enough research but I need opinions from the field.
  • If DNA200, I would like the option to change the battery.
You guys have always been a big help. Any opinions or links would be greatly appreciated. Looking for a mod these days is like trying to locate a single drop in the ocean.

I've not even seen a DNA200 mod in person. The only person I know with a grip on temp control is me... lol
Only DNA200 on the market that I would buy...Lostvape.
Definitely a great suggestion but I think I'm past the phase of spending that much on a mod haha.
you might like the wismec reuleaux, triple 18650 dna200 and looks like the size of it maybe a little gurthier, i myself have a boxer 133!
Triple 18650s is definitely too big for me. I've got LG HE4s from the Boxer and just two of those is more than enough.

I might bite the bullet and get a lower end DNA200. There are two things holding me back on this, though: 1) The inconvenience of a built-in LiPo - I'm years past buying 'disposable' stuff. 2) I have had two Kicks and a DNA40. My experience with Evolv up til this point is barely mediocre. I have a bit more faith in the 200 but still, bad track record.

Thanks for the input, everyone!

well check out the hotcig dx200 over at fasttech. With the coupon code MAP, it brings the price from $165 to $125 and a neat feature of the dx200 is the quick change lipo. Takes literally 2 seconds to swap out. It also comes with a lipo charger. Fasttech also sells replacement lipos for it. They were$25 but now there$45. Price should go down on em, friggin better!

Nice! That is pretty damn tempting. If the replacement battery was still $25 I'd go make an order right now lol.

im guessing they think theyre slick jackin the price up. people arent going to $45 for a batt. Some might, but i wont. what about the boxer dna 133?
I've got a Boxer on my desk all beat to ..... Not worth the money even if you get a discount by building it yourself. If I were to keep using that thing I'd have to get a VT510; the FD one they supply with the mod has a very weak spring. In fact myself and a handful of others I've seen on the forums damaged the spring with heat from a soldering iron, that's not cool. As it stands mine is already on spring #2 lol. Beyond that, the nylon is pretty hardy but seriously looks like crap after some wear and tear. It has ruts and mars all over it. Not to mention dirt doesn't really come out of the texture. Mine has a blood stain or two... White was a bad idea. It was a great mod while it lasted but I will never pay that much money for a plastic mod again heh.

Forgot to mention the part about the 510 not staying seated in the box properly. An over tightened atty virtually destroyed my positive wire. Yeah, not a difficult fix, but also not really worth it to me.

If your looking for opinions between DNA200 or SX350j you'll surely get less than objective opinions. Personally I have both a SXmini m that uses the Sx350j board and a DNA200. I would trade the DNA200 for another SXmini m in a heartbeat. Evolv is trying to compete with the Isticks and the Vt60 by selling to the China clone makers. If your comfortable buying one of them and know going in you may have problems with returns, warranty shipping etc.. it may be what your looking for. I won't go into the pro's and cons since you state you've already done enough research and already have a SX350j. But if you want opinions between the two brands here's a couple links so you can get a better feel for consumer satisfaction, reliability etc.. for both.

Thanks, good info. I definitely liked the SX. A bit over complicated but no big deal to me. The DNA200 has customization software... that's right up my alley. Now if only the Whiteout guys would get the Ares out, I'd be set. I would never need anything again!
