Help me choose my first dripping setup!

So, I'm pretty sick of clearomizers. I've wasted probably 100 bucks on coils for my nautilus, yes mostly bvc, and no matter what I do (tightening/loosening, cleaning the tank, adjusting the bottom screw, filling it all the way up, letting it sit overnight, priming a million times, dripping straight into the coil) it tastes like burnt metal 90 percent of the hits. So I want to get into dripping, I've tried it on friend's devices and it tastes clean and delicious. Also I'm going to try and get a job at a b&m in a month or so so I want to be at least somewhat experienced with building coils and the like. I have 2 mvp2s right now and someone said it would be possible to use an RDA on them, would this be worth it as far as taste? (I place taste way above "cloud chasing") And if not, what would people recommend (only clones please) for a mod/rda? And where to buy cotton/whatever else might be good for building? My budget is kind of tight, around 50 bucks maaaybe 70 max if necessary. I don't know if recommending certain vendors is against the rules, please pm me if there's a better option but isn't forum approved. So, help me vape all this amazing juice and not have my lungs hurt all day, thank you!! :2cool:

Heylo friend. I hear you, I couldn't stand clearomizers, they all just weren't good enough.

An RDA will work just fine on your MVP, you just cannot build below 1.0Ω (it may be 1.2Ω) I believe. An ohm meter may go well with this purchase and are usually right around $20.00.

I've been through a lot of RDA's and if you are purely chasing flavor, I would go with the Magma or Plume Veil. You can get clones of each for under $25.00. :)

Another thing you may want to look into is the Kayfun. It has all of the aspects of an RDA (great flavor, can chase clouds if you'd like, etc.) but it is also a tank.

Doesn't the mvp work as an ohm meter? and any exact ideas of which clone to get, don't want a badly built one

It does, but it doesn't provide as much 'accuracy' as ohm meters do as they go out to the hundredths decimal place. Of course there is some error. My DNA 30 has an ohm meter built in but it has a heavy rounding curve to it, so I always verify my builds on an ohm meter. Just for peace of mind. Plus, if you ever plan on getting a mechanical mod to run your RDA on, it will be absolutely essential. You don't have to get one now.

I got the Infinite magma clone and it is phenomenal. You can get it here: Magma RDA Clone by Infinite - Eciggity

You can probably find it cheaper, just do a little searching. It's a pretty common notion that the Magma is a phenomenal RDA for flavor.

Here's a thread filled with different builds for the Magma: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ems/586717-magma-rda-your-favorite-build.html

Cool, probably gonna get one :) what do I need to build? is cotton recommended, and where's a good place to buy it?

Good choice. The Magma is great too because it has deep juice wells so you don't need to refill it nearly as often as other RDA's.

I personally prefer 'organic' cotton which can be purchased at any vitamin cottage/natural grocers (they also carry really good VG if you ever get into DIY juice). If you don't have a VC or NG, then Amazon or Ebay. I get the Maxim brand, it doesn't require any boiling and has phenomenal flavor right from the go. :) It should be about $4.00 for 100 cotton balls.

There's a lot of hype about Rayon, but I can't find it anywhere out here and I'm perfectly happy with organic cotton anyways. I would start with cotton.

You will also need kanthal wire. Start with 28 gauge, it's a great middle-of-the-road gauge that many people use. I get my kanthal on Amazon from Lightning Vapes. They sell 100ft for like $6.00 or something awesome like that.

A great tool that will come in handy for gauging what dimensions your coil needs to attain your desired resistance is this website: http://www.steam-engine.org/coil.asp

Go ahead and play around with it so you can get used to it by the time you get your new goodies.

Btdubs, where in Minneapolis are you? I have family over in Bloomington and visit several times a year.

the MVP maxes out at 11 watts so a 1ohm coil won't cut it, it will work but you won't pull the correct wattage/voltage........the MVP will work with an RDA at optimal performance with a single coil between 1.5 to 2.0 ohms and it's suggested to use 30 gauge kanthal with cotton or cellu-cotton....and you will have an enjoyable experience......come on over to the MVP Owners group and ask your questions, some very knowledgeable folks there.

1.5 ohm single coil with the Novice RDA, hits like a freight train

Yeah, I thought 1.0Ω was low for the MVP, but I've never owned one. Check out that forum, it'd be helpful for you to get info from actual MVP users.

I prefer thicker kanthal as it's easier to work with, that's why I suggested 28 gauge. It's truly personal preference. Look through that magma thread and see what build(s) you want to try and purchase wire based on that.

Southside! pretty close to Bloomington. Nice area except the winters haha

Aha! I believe it. I was in Bloomington last winter and it hit something insane like -21ºF. I mean, I'm used to the cold in Colorado, but there's nothing like Minnesota cold.
