+1 for the precision screwdriver set. I find they're much easier than drill bits.

Re using 24 gauge kanthal: If he's doing dual coils, and doesn't want to go below .5, he'll end up with something like 15 wraps on a 2 mm bit. That's going to be hard to install, and will take forever to heat up. Single coil would be better. A more reasonable gauge, like 28, would be better still.
