I really wish there was a simple 'standard' coil wrapping kit or something of the like. I built my first coils (double) today using a #0 screwdriver and 26g kanthal with 8 wraps to get roughly a .8 ohm build. All this hypo needle / drill bit / music wire / large paperclip / safety pin / bla bla bla is killing me. I wish we all spoke the same language lol

With that said, is there some conversion to these mini screwdriver sets that would make things easier for this newbie?

Btw - for me the screwdriver way seems so much easier than trying to do it around a drill bit. The lip where the handle meets the driver seems to help immensely.

Here are a few links for you regarding building coils and getting the resistance just where you want it:
1. Steam Engine
2. Coil Toy Calculator

I use a set of precision screwdrivers like this:

You can buy dedicated coil jigs that have different sized mandrils for the different coil diameters.

Personally I use drill bits, because that's what I have and that's what are free. They are also quite useful because they are standard for everyone.

It does seem that drill bits are the most commonly used. I have them scattered all over the place and most that I've found I can't even read the size any more. Maybe time to buy me a new set haha.

I always lol when watching coil builds online. You couldn't be more right with all the confusion with coil diameters. I'm using this drill bit which I think is 2mm diameter, etc, etc. It always makes me lol. I enjoy building coils and half the fun is trying to get the resistance you want. I use an 18 gauge blunt tip needle to build mine on. I can see though how the coil jig kits could be very useful to standardize coil building.
