With all the turmoil lately about DA / AP and other harmful stuff, I want to start making my own liquids. This really concerns me since I was a Castle Long junkie for the past year. I've since switched over to my other favorite profile, Menthol's.

I have a current couple of favorites but I'm afraid that they won't be available any longer. Right now I'm vaping 3 of Zen's ZFO Reserve menthol's; Berry Menthol, Black Ice, and Real Menthol (with a bunch of Samba Sun mixed in). They're all great but I know I have the last bottle of Black Ice in existence and when the others are gone it may be a long time until they're available again.

What I would like to know is where can I find flavor extracts that are DA / AP free? I look at the Nude Nicotine site and see that all (or most) of their pre-made juices test clean, could I assume that their extracts are as well?

I would think that Menthol with a fruit flavor should be safe anyway as the bad stuff usually shows up in the creamy, buttery flavor profiles. So what's next? How do I get started?

I was thinking of starting with some of Nude's pre Nic'd base and buying a menthol and a few fruits. Is that a good way to start? What else would I need.

I see recipes posted where a sweetener is added, is that where DA / AP come into play?

Hi @k2zs. I have a few links you might find helpful. 1. Watch youtube for videos on how to make juice. 2. Find recipes, and List ingredients. 3. shop for flavor ingredients. Look for DX or version 2 (V2) as these are usually flavors that have had most of the bad stuff removed. They are usually listed if you scroll down on each flavor page, and are in red. I use the 100mg nic (comes in pg or vg) and treat it cautiously like drain cleaner. (no children/pets around) Ask friends for used bottles, they can be cleaned easily and reused.

Wow, thanks.... But that's quite the "Info Overload" goin on....

Out of all that, who would you recommend for clean flavorings?

I use mostly TFA, Capella, Flavor Art (concentrated), and some Flavor West. When you have a recipe that calls for a certain custard, look to see if it also comes in a Version 2 or DX. I don't use my DIY to make exact copies of a recipe, but to make juice I enjoy, and it does take some experimentation. (just ask my kitchen drain) :)
The vendors I use the most are BullCity, Wizard Labs, and Ecig Express (Signature is TFA). They are all rebottled from the manufacturers, but my service has been good from them. I don't know of any manufacturer who is 100% bad stuff free (mainly because these are food flavorings where it doesn't matter), but most have options.

I agree with the above. Mostly I use RTS for flavorings. You can get a base mixed if your sure on the blend you want. Nothing wrong with starting that way but keep in mind that if you want 12mg and you buy a base of 12 then when you add flavorings you will change that ratio. You will also alter your PG/VG ratio because most flavorings are PG based.
When you decide, try this one. 14% blackberry (tfa) and 3% menthol

Hi k2zs.

I think what you will find is that DA / AP comes into play in Flavors that are either Buttery or Creamy or Both. Not in the Sweetener.

I have not Seen many Pure Fruit Flavors or Menthol Flavors that have DA or AP in them. Not saying that they Can't. So be Vigilant. And do your Research.

But if a Flavor Isn't Buttery or Creamy, like say Butterscotch or Pralines and Cream or Some Chocolates, chance are that it does Not contain DA or AP or Both.

That helps, thanks.

So I installed the eJuiceMeUp program and tryed inputting a sample recipe from their site in the 70/30 (pg/vg) 12mg profile I'm looking for. It seemed pretty simple with only 3 flavors and sounds like it would be close to my favorite, Black Ice. I think I'm gonna give it a try ;)

So I see a spot for Water/Vodka/PGA. What would I do that for? What does that add to a finished liquid?

Thanks, that sounds really good...

Yea, I was thinking I'd start out simple and get some 48mg 70(pg)/30(vg) nic base, some VG, some PG, and a couple of flavors....

The water/Vodka/PGA is for when you add either of these ingredients to a recipe. They are most often used when you don't use any PG, and are used to thin the VG in a recipe. It's probably very rare to find a recipe to use either of these so just leave it at zero and you'll be fine.
Thanks, so far this has been a big help....

Cool. Let use know what it Taste Like.

---

Since this might be your 1st Recipe. I'll give you the Single Greatest piece of Advise that I give Anyone who is New.

It is OK to Taste Test a Freshly Mixed e-Liquid. In fact, it is Recommended.

But you should leave the e-Liquid to sit for 2 ~ 3 Days BEFORE you make any changes to your Recipe. Because the Flavor of Most Mixes will change from sitting for the first 2 ~ 3 Days.

And whatever you Mix. Keep Detailed and Accurate Records of Everything you Do.

Nothing worse in Adding a Dash off this and 6 Drops of that and Making the Best Damn e-Liquid you have Every Tasted. But then Not being able to make it again because you Forgot what the Dash Was? Or was it 6 Drops of this or 9 Drops of something else.
