Currently I'm using 28g at just a couple wraps to get 1 ohm. Like, 2, 3, maybe 4.
It is a microcoil but I know that more wraps will give me a better performance, so I want a lot. Currently building around one of those eye glass screwdrivers so the coil is very small, but that will probably change with a different gauge wire.
I was thinking of getting 32 gauge but wasn't sure if I would need to make too many wraps to get to 1ohm. I just need some input from some rebuilding experts :)
Whats your build? Give me all the deets!:p

The higher in gauge you go, the less wraps you'll need to get to a desired resistance compared to the same resistance wire in a lower gauge.

Are your legs very long? 2-4 wraps of 28 gauge around a small ID screwdriver sounds like it'd be lower than 1 ohm with two wraps.

More wraps aren't necessarily better, but everyone has their sweet spot.

Sounds like you just need to wrap smaller coils, if it only takes 3-4 wraps to hit 1 ohm your coil must be pretty big. Like Karen said, 1/16th or a 1.4 mm should take 8 wraps to hit 1 ohm with 28 gauge.

I'd play around some more with the 28ga before you go buying more wire, the lower gauge you go the longer it will take to heat up especially when adding more wraps. It's kind of a fine line when trying to balance performance with lag time with lower gauge wire.

My 28 gauge wire on a 16 gauge blunt tip needle takes 8 wraps to give me 1.0 ohms. I wonder if you're not using 32 gauge wire and just don't remember. :) If I go any lower gauge (fatter wire) than 28, I have problems with several areas: takes too long to heat up (for my taste); really more difficult to screw down and keep it screwed down because the post screws loosen themselves easily; and it's just awkward and harder to coil in the first place because it's so stiff. I hate my 27 gauge stuff. If you want some to try before you buy any, PM me and I'll send you some. I have 27 gauge, 28 gauge, 30 gauge, and 32 gauge. I'll send you some of each.....

28 gauge is fine for most applications, it hits the sweet spot in terms of ohms/inch. If you're going to be in the 1 ohm range, 28 will work great. You won't really see any advantages from a lower gauge without dropping ohms, and those advantages are very subjective. I am using 24 gauge but at .25ohms, the added mass requires more power to heat up. Since the wire is much bigger, it doesn't get as hot as fast, which provides a cooler vape then a .25 ohm coil of 28 gauge. Once you get more builds under your belt, the better you'll understand how coils of different wraps, ID, and position effect the characteristics of the vape, then you can figure out what kind of vape you like and how to get it.

Here's how I roll :)

I select the gauge that hits my target resistance in 10 wraps around a .055" jig.

I like around 1.3 ohms.

Here's a little chart:

Can you guess my favorite?

If you selected 29 ga your right :)

Hate to hijak this thread but seems like it may be the right place to ask this question.

I just received my second Reo today and am having some build issues. I am very familiar with wrapping coils at different ratings with different wire and using wick in various ways but I can't for the life of me get a simple build going in this RM2 that will wick well enough to to give me burnt hits fairly quickly.

I've seen that most like to wrap what I would call a pretty standard micro coil and use a very short wick which I have done. Went to wider wrap so I could use a thicker wick but it still isn't doing the trick.

Any ideas? Currently running 28g with 7 wraps that is reading .96ohms.

You may just be expecting something that won't happen. With that setup, I would have to squonk every two or three (at the most) hits. And when you squonk, at least for a few times, take off the drip tip and watch the juice come in and wash over your whole coil. Possibly you are not holding your squonk long enough to get the juice up in there and wash over your coil. I hold mine for a 3 count with a full bottle, and longer than that if my bottle is half full or less. Even with drowning the whole coil, I still have to squonk every 2-3 hits.

Edit: you will get into a rhythm and it'll become second nature very soon.

!!!! I re-read and you said your second REO.....so my bad. It may not be your squonking at all. Sorry. You mean there's no problem with your first REO, but now you're having a problem? Is it a different RM2? What's different from the first REO?
