My wife and I have been arguing over wether alcohol diluted with glycrine, or straight for that matter would be a disater waiting to happen. Would this be highly flammable and blow up in your face or not? Also would it matter if it were everclear or a light rum? Just been arguing for a couple weeks and wonder what people thought?

Check out the DIY section of the forum - ejuice recipies. There have been some postings about using everclear and vodka to thin the glycerine and give a better throat hit in the final product without dumping so much nic liquid in it....

So I would say it's feasable.... who loses the bet?

why would you even want to mix glycerin with alcohol? Have you ever tasted a thermometer after it's soaked in alcohol to kill the germs, it's pretty gross.

If you're looking to thin out the glycerin just use distilled water

An alcohol soak to kill germs is isopropl alocohol (rubbing alcohol). Not good in highballs:nah:

I've been told that the sugars in the alcohol will ruin your atomizer. As long as it's regular 80 proof liquor it isn't flammable. I don't know at what strength it starts becoming flammable though.

Distilled water wouldn't be a good way to thin out the glycerin either though. Extra water in your e-liquid is going to make your atomizer burn out faster. Your atomizer will have to get a lot hotter then normal in order to vaporize something that has more water in it.

*** Disclaimer!! Not a chemist! ***

However, my understanding that to be flammable, alcohol (spirits) must be 100 proof - actually that's the origin of the term.

While it may be flammable when exposed to open flame, in order to combust on its own, it has to get a bit hotter. Google "flash point".

I think you're safe based on what I've read in the DIY sections.

I was contemplating doing the same. I enjoy a good throat kick from my ecig.
I'd probably use everclear or vodka. I will try like a 5% alcohol, and even 10% should be ok. I was wondering how some eliquids get that awesome kick.
You could try a mix, and test a small amount with a match.
I wouldn't freak out over it.

I love my Pilot M-401!

I use alcohol (vodka) to cut my vg instead of distilled water...no problems over hear.

Then again...I also use Kahlua and Irish Cream flavorings a lot when I'm making my own juices...maybe I DO have a problem :)

I gotta get my kitchen witch hat on and do some work - Mmmmmmmm Kahlua vapor.... Wonder if vaping can make you drunk?

I just use Kahlua flavoring...But I think that they were saying that TB uses the real thing. I've seen him writing about his Kahlua vape and if he IS using the real thing than that would be nice to know that it wouldn't kill/clog my atomizers. Bob's balls are apparently a lil bigger than mine cuz I haven't tried that yet

But your's are bigger than mine - I'm still afraid to start cooking up my own - don't want to mess up any of my equipment....

Have to contend myself with Kahlua in my coffee.

Couple drops of Bickford or Lorann (I think I prefer Bickford) flavoring to some riskee or other bought liquid can give you a pretty good vape too if you ever want a change of pace without all of the hassle.

Now where is Tropical Bob when you need him? I keep eyeballing the kahlua bottle in the kitchen...just want to hear first hand that the real stuff isn't bad to use

100 proof = 50% concentration of alcohol. The word alcohol is widely misused to describe any drink containing it. It is possible to ignite 80 proof (40% concentrate) but not easy. However, it becomes much easier to ignite if the liquid is vaporised and potentially explosive if compressed as well; the internal combustion engine is a perfect example of this principle. The 'lack of oxygen' will not occur if it is being sucked through the mouthpiece like a supercharger. So, yes there is a risk if the alcohol content is at a certain level but the figures are not readily available so I'll leave the experimenting to someone more expendable. I must admit to chuckling at the image of someone trying to impress friends with their ecig and it self destructing when they take a draw!!
