Really hope this doesn't start an argument but why do people care??

So in my opinion if it helps reduce those kinds of behaviors in even the slightest way while its technically not the same as starting to quit smoking it's still reducing harmful behaviors which is what vaping was originally meant for.
I agree, I had a friend who was getting ready to come off methadone and the sheer thought would make him sick and break into cold sweats. He was puffing on a cig-a-like to calm his nerves and I was like "Dude..." handed him my SX mini with a Goblin attached, he took a puff, and was like "Oh yeah!!"

To make a long story short, I let him borrow my IPV mini and Lemo and gave him a crash course on how to rebuild. vaping literally took his mind off the withdraws and calmed his nerves. He has been clean for about two months now and has not had any problems. He has also become one of my best juice customers..hehe;)

you are part right. the single most effective influence that results in
underage smoking is peer pressure.
the second most influencing factor is if your parent or parents smoked.
the flavors, the advertising have little if any effect. this has been proven
because when they eliminated flavors(6% of the market share excluding regular and menthol)
there was no reduction in usage in underage smokers.
the same with advertising.when advertising restrictions were
introduced our buddy Joe Camel had 30% market share in the
underage category. after the restrictions no decrease in cigrette
usage in the underage category.
so why the steady decline over the years? the message.
smoking is bad for you. i am not addressing if smoking was,
or is is bad as we have been led to believe. i am just
saying kids started believing it.
over time as less kids started smoking and more adults quit
or didn't start in the first place and we are right back to square one.
kids now days do not smoke because of (if you have been paying attention
you know the answer) peer pressure.(the antithesis of being cool)
the second most influencing factor, their parents don't smoke.

It's kinda funny bc everything you said is statistically true but my biggest reason for never smoking was that my dad did and I hate him more than anyone on this planet so the smell always reminded me of him & has always made me sick to my stomach & gave me anxiety. But obviously that's not the case for most people, just thought it was interesting that the second most influencing reason for not smoking that was also the second most influencing reason why some people do start was my reason for not starting.

That damn Joe Camel is the one that started all the trouble in the first place with the Kidstapo!
If I ever find him I'm gonna bite in right in the tookus!

Huum,..vaping helps bulimia?!? Who's a thunk it?!?

Interesting and I have read that vaping helps with those trying to loose weight as well.

It sure does nothing to curb my water intake though. :D

Yeah,it's weird lol but it does. Pretty much the same idea as weight loss, which is more common than you'd think in that they're both a way to get the flavor without the calories and it's a distraction so your focusing I something other than obsessing over food.

If vaping helps the binge eaters who purge to curb that horrible need, doctors should prescribe it! I knew it was bad but your description makes it scary!
Vaping works a little differently on me as I tend to eat more after vaping. Especially when I got into dessert flavors. Some where/are so good I want to eat the real things.

@skoony Very interesting read! Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy the wide range and thought invoking responses on this forum. Thanks be to OP for the interesting post topic!

They should but they never would, they get way more $$ from the endless hours of therapy and the countless medications they prescribe so there's no chance of them suggesting it as an alternative if they're not gonna benefit off of it. And yeah lol the health consequences are shocking, those few weren't even close to half of them.

Vaping is a way for me to intake nicotine without smoking tobacco. Any other reason i just cant understand.

I can sort of understand if you like all of the flavours but dont want to eat a whole bunch of food that isnt great for you, but in still on the fence on this as you can still enjoy those foods in moderation
Well true but that's assuming you're able to control the amount you eat,a lot of people can't control it or don't even realize how much they're eating until they're finished, you kinda almost go into a trance or something....hard to explain but basically you decide to take a bite of something and then you can't stop until you "wake up." Half the time I can barely remember what I ate or even eating it. Like you sorta remember and you know you did it but it's like it was a dream. That prob makes zero sense lol but it's the best description I can give.

The vaping over not eating something is kinda ridiculous to me. I have yet to find a juice aside from uncle junks honeydo, that tastes exactly like its food counterpart. They're always off by just alittle to make me want the real thing more. My taste buds may be picky but no juice or there compares to a nice fresh raspberry or melon.

*didn't read the whole thread*

But most people are {Moderated}, nosy {Moderated} we are ;)
And most of the time judgemental on anything that's different. Different than how he/she does it or living his or her life.

yesterday i was chatting with a colleague of mine and we were talking about techno festivals and stuff. Then this other colleague joins the conversation and immediately says it's not his thing and it's stupid. And asks us typical questions like, are you also using {Moderated}? Everything is just negative according to him, simply because he does not like it. Unable to form any understanding about the subject. Combined with his body language, he communicated that it's {Moderated}, why you do those things and i don't agree with what you are doing and i think you are a loser for doing those things.

Btw, i get the same response from most people about vaping in general. Why do you vape? Are you trying to be interesting? it looks silly, why don't you just quit.. etc etc.. Very negative remarks and questions. Not genuine interest.. I feel like they are more looking to mock you and have a laugh about your/our weird habit. This is usually the moment that i blow vapor in his/her face to shut them up :p

People tend to be very intolerant to things that's different than their own little comfort zone. I think it makes them feel better, because they are talking you down. You can see it everywhere from homophobia to racial issues to even a guy doing horse ride lessons or whatever. Pathetic really.

Whatever your response is, try not to do the same. Because it's idiotic, immature, pathetic behaviour. Very close minded..

It's not like we're vaping chicken dinners or anything - we still eat, but I personally have a crazy sweet tooth and would be as big as a house with diabetes if I allowed myself every dessert I ever craved. I allow myself some, but vaping has taken care of my cravings for the most part. And yes, I've had flavors that were actually better than their counterparts. One time I had a Blueberry Pie flavored juice and an actual blueberry pie in the fridge. The juice was so good that the real pie ended up going bad.

I agree on that point Sirius. If I didn't want (need) the nic, I would not spend all the time, money and inconvenience on vaping. Hard candy is cheaper and a hell of a lot more convenient lol.

Hard candy is (or can be) considerably worse for some aspects of one's health. Teeth for example. And weight. And even possibly diabetes. But who cares about that stuff?

I used to smoke, yes. I quit 4 years ago when I started vaping. I weaned (yes "wean" has an A in it...I keep seeing "ween" and it makes my skin crawl) myself from 18mg down to 2mg....where I still am. Why only 2mg? Because I bought the danged nic base a couple of years ago and it's in my freezer. I want to use it up. Don't like the idea of wasting that money! I don't need nicotine anymore. I don't vape to be "cool" either. Or for the "gear" or other toys. I vape because of the hand to mouth habit. Plain and simple. Maybe some men don't have that issue...but there are a lot of other people who do. Guess what happens if I don't have that hand/mouth thing (which probably started when I sucked my thumb as a baby)? I'm gonna eat. Like getting fat is good for me? Plus I'm already pre-diabetic? I also happen to love the taste of menthol. It's the only flavor I vape. I don't really care about "clouds"...but do put a little VG in my DIY juice just to boost the vapor a bit. Just because sometimes it's fun to watch. My preferred "gear" is the venerable old Joye eGo. My conveyance of choice is the "outdated" carto tank. Obviously "cool" is not a factor in my vaping reality. I've never succeeded in a really good "smoke ring"...or "vapor ring" either. I vape because it makes me happy, and I like the flavor of the juice I DIY. Whether someone never smoked and starts vaping, or someone else vapes less but take mega subohm draws of high nicotine a couple of times a day is of no concern of mine. Do what is right for YOU. It's no one's business WHY anyone vapes unless they want to tell you about it. And it's not a subject that I see as being suitable to use to mock others or be flippant.

OP, it sounds as if you have encountered a new species. I call them "Professional Vapers".

As weird as it sounds, these people IDENTIFY as vapers. It is part of their "identity" , their mask. It is more than just a hobby to them. They go to the vape shops, buy all the latest newest gadgets, enter cloud competitions, talk about vaping 24/7, etc, etc.

Some of these people not only use vaping as part of their identity, but they also want to feel important, and this is where the problems come in. Some of them want to look like experts, the "professional" vaper. These people usually knock clones, buy every new product, watch all the vaping reviews, and are constantly trying to lower their ohms.

The professional vaper is a proud and arrogant race. They consider anyone who doesn't vape like they do, for the reasons they do, as a subspecies of vapers, they consider us less than human.

Stay away from the professional vaper, stay far away. You can spot them out easily.

Here is how you spot out a dangerous, arrogant, "Professional vaper". If they have half or more of these points below, BEWARE.

- They dress like hipsters
- They have been vaping longer then EVERYONE else, no matter WHAT
- They only use Max VG. DUH
- They only SUB-OHM. Anything higher than 0.01 ohms makes you a SUB VAPER in their eyes
- They are vaping using a device that has TWO atomizers on it
- They vape at 100-200watts
- Their favorite sport is cloud competitions at the local vapeshop
- Their juice is better than your juice
- Their mod is better than your mod
- Their atty/delivery device is better than yours
- They blow huge clouds in everyone's faces, because IT IS THEIR RIGHT

I urge you to avoid this species altogether!

Having read thru the entire thread and re-reading the OP's post, I wonder why you are asking why??!! You seem like a very strong willed person and you yourself stated you couldn't care less!

Personally, I'm right there with you, I have no time or energy to spend on people that try to force an ideological stance my way!

I'm perfectly happy in my own skin. I have no problem explaining to honestly inquisitive people what vapeing is and how it has helped me stay away from burning tobacco products. Conversely, if I see someone look down their nose at what I'm doing, no biggie, I'm not doing it to make them happy or feel better about themselves. Pretty sure they have their own issues to deal with.

I turned to ecigs because smoking was really starting to take its toll on my health. At the same time, I still felt the nagging need for nicotine. Win, win really.

I don't really understand why anyone would want to vape if they had never been a smoker but again, if you do so knowing what you are getting into and do so safely, knock yourself out!!

I really don't give a .... how other people vape.
I also don't give a .... about anyone elses opinion of my vaping habits.
I'll educate a n00b away from using a crap battery to subohm or something else dangerous.
Otherwise whatever blows your hair back is your own business.

People that start vaping that haven't smoked yet. YET.
...about someone that starts vaping that never smoked yet, I'd be surprised if they wouldn't smoke eventually if vaping wasn't available.
Vaping is about reduced harm IMO and "never smoked" doesn't equal "never would".
