Ok, here is the deal. I write for examiner.com as one of my jobs. I wrote an article about e-cigarettes that you can find here: http://www.examiner.com/x-57188-Scranton-Technology-Examiner~y2010m7d8-ECigarettes-the-new-way-to-smoke.

It is fairly popular, but I have a feeling if I could get all of you to come and read it and leave a comment I could create a real buzz. My plan is to give it a short time to show examiner how many hits it received and then ask them to start an e-cigarette examiner position for me. If that were to happen I could write stories showing the facts about e-cigs and what they do for us.

Examiner is a hugely popular site with tons of readers, and I could use it to show the truth about e-cigs and post nice how tos without the same misleading BS spin the major news outlets tend to paint e-cigs with.

I wouldn't feel right asking you guys to help me with this without telling you this is a job for me, and I do get paid to do it. I don't think it's a bad thing to want to combine my passion with my writing job, and I think I could really shed some light on our community to unwashed masses that believe everything the FDA tells them.

If you want to help, just read my article and comment. Sorry if this seems like self-promotion, but honestly I want to use my influence to sway some opinions. Anyway I'm done rambling.

Commented. You might want to think about expanding to the entire concept of tobacco harm reduction. Electronic cigarettes have been a gigantic step forward in this arena. But many of use who became users (and therefore former smokers) were totally unaware that the government and health organizations have been telling us a gigantic lie for years and years. "WARNING: THIS PRODUCT IS NOT A SAFE ALTERNATIVE TO CIGARETTES"

Some who had only partial success with e-cigarettes have managed to go the distance by adding low-nitrosamine Swedish snus into the mix. Had we only known that this form of smokeless tobacco reduces the risks of smoking-related diseases by up to 99%, we could have stopped smoking years ago!

In future articles, you might consider providing links to the Tobacco Harm Reduction site. Tobaccoharmreduction.org

And of course, there is always casaa.org!

Good call! Thank you. I am trying to work the idea on them slowly so they don't get gun shy. There is a lot of misinformation and half-truths floating around out there and I need to be careful not to pull everything out in one shot or I'll never be able to get them to see it my way. Thank you though, I love constructive feedback.

Nice article; however, plugging a particular brand of E Cigarette tends to lend discredit. That’s fodder for the Antis to feed on. Just an observation for what it’s worth.
Great point. I welcome the comments. This was just kind of a feeler story to test the waters. I want to represent the community accurately and positively, and the only way I can do that is with feedback from you guys. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'll +1 that JC. There is a whole realm of harm reduction products that have been kept invisible and in some cases attacked by our "health" conscious organizations and the government. I for one am really unhappy that I may have smoked an additional twenty years or so when much less harmful alternatives were available.

Now new products are coming out such as stonewalls and ariva and they are getting attacked by the same people that attack E-cigs. That's where the real stories lie.

I will certainly keep that in mind, but the problem lies in that I work for the "Gadgets and Tech" section. I can easily justify an E-cig as a "Gadget" but I might not be able to stretch the meaning enough to include the others. If I can get them to make a new section for me I'll see if I can get it to be "e-cigarettes and smoking alternatives" or something of the like.

On an unrelated note. You know, I'm shocked not one of you made fun of the "real me" compared to my ECF avatar. Nerdy bearded guy with glasses and a flannel shirt vs. The Crimson Ghost.... I wonder which one wins on the coolness factor?

Will do... This is why I love this forum. The community is really great here. Given the large increase in hits that article has gotten already I asked my category manager about making that section for me. I'm awaiting an answer. Even if it is no I will still put e-cig related info out there, I just can't totally dedicate myself to it.

Now why would I make fun of a nerdy bearded guy with glasses in PA? You don't look that much different than me about 40 years ago and I've spent time in both Scranton and Williamsport at one point or another. Stayed in a motel on Rt 15 back in the late 60's. When I opened the back blind, I was greeted with a view of this fabulous looking miniature baseball stadium which I found out later was the then home of the LL World Series.

Skied in Scranton and did some genealogy footwork in both Wilkes Barre and Scranton with my GF about her grandmother from the coal regions. You look right at home.

I committed - but right now I am afraid I might have said the wrong things - I mentioned they were fun and e-liquid came in many flavors and it wasn't until I posted that I remembered someone may protest they might appeal to children, and the puritanical society we live in wants all smokers to suffer for their sin - not have fun - :(

meh, if people jump down your throat I'll just delete the comment. No problem with that though, everyone seems to be posting pro-ecig comments... wonder why ;) :toast:
