I was hoping maybe you could help me before I give up completely on DIY. All my juices taste like .....!!! Excuse the language but that's really the only way I could honestly put it. I ordered a 70PG/30VG 24mg nicotine from Wizad labs. For future orders I was planning on getting a higer nic%, and seperate PG and VG, But tried to make it simple my first time so that all I had to do was add flavoring. Or at least that's what I thought. I believe the flavoring they carry are TFA so I also purchase about 8 of those as well as some mixing necessities. I tried EVERY % of flavoring, added stevia and it all has this TERRIBLE taste. So then I hought 'IT has to be the base." so I tried vaping a little of just the base of Nic/70PG/30VG and it was AWFUL. Now I was under the impression that this was supposed to be unflavored nicotine. However I would definately not call what I tasted Unflavored!! OMG was it bad. Tasted like a combination of soap and chemicals and actually gave me a headache and made me sick to my stomache. Is this how "unflavored Nic" is supposed to taste? Now I'm scared to buy any more from anywhere. I'm really hoping that it's just the Wizard Labs stuff that tastes this bad because the flavor is so bad I can't even taste ANY of the flavors I add to it. HELP PLEASE!! What else can I be doing wrong? What is unflavored supposed to taste like when you vape it. I can't afford to waste any more money and wanted to order some Capellas flavorings but am afraid even adding those to this base would still have that terrible taste. Anyone else ever had this problem. Is the Nic, or PG, or VG they use possibly bad? Thanks for any help and advice!!

Hi Karla,

I am John Macleod, the owner of Wizard Labs.
If you ever have a problem or concern about your order or any of our products you can contact me directly via the contact form, email address, or phone number listed on our site, and I will make sure that your issue is fixed, replaced, or refunded immediately.

To answer your question, no, unflavored nicotine base should not taste like perfume or chemicals.
As Bostonsnboxers and Tona Aspsusa correctly stated, the PG and VG will give a slightly sweet sensation, and the nicotine will give a "peppery" sensation to the lining of the mouth and lips.
Nicotine can also have a faint smell that may be described as slightly "fishy" to some.
As the nicotine ages and oxidizes it will develop a stronger odor and taste over time, and turn yellowish to eventually brown in color.

Please email me your order number so I can look up your order and work with you to resolve the problem.
Once I have your information I can send you a couple of samples in VG and PG to compare, and if you are still unsatisfied I can issue you a refund.
We ran extensive taste-tasting for months with experienced DIYers and several vendors before ever bringing our product to market, and this is the first negative experience we've heard so I'd like to work hard with you to try and turn it into a positive one.

I have to say Wizard Labs has fully refunded my money for the Nic base and even offered to send me some samples of their Pg w/nic base and Vg to try to see what the issue is. I have to say I have NEVER done DIY before, or tried unflavored nic, so there is a complete possibility I have no idea what it is supposed to taste like. This was never meant to be a bad review whatsoever I was just trying to get a little help fom some DIY'ers here on the forums. I also received an email from John Macleod at Wizard Labs explaining more about the bases, how they're made and tested ect., and am quite impressed. There's a VERY good chance it's just me being new at this. I'd delete this post completely if I knew how but it looks like I'm unable so I wanted to post my further experience. Please don't use my "review" as any part of your decision to buy from this company. The customer service and Mr Maccleod's effort to fix this has gone above and beyond what I could have ever expected. So all in all I would definitely say I would buy it again being that if your not happy he was willing to fix AND refund!! Thabk you so very much Wizard Labs! More Than Excellent Service!

Hi Karla,

Thanks for contacting me and giving me your information so that I could investigate the problem you had.
I would never just assume that the problem is you being new to DIY, and any complaint about quality/taste/smell needs to be taken seriously and investigated.
As soon as I was aware of your complaint I put a hold on shipping any orders containing nicotine until we can run a full quality check on each batch of stock.
I've also contacted our vendors that received recent shipments to pull samples of their stock to check them for any quality issues.

Although I run regular titration on our batches to ensure accurate nicotine content, there are many factors that can affect taste and smell including problems that don't show up until after mixing or shipping.
While that may not be factor in other products that use nicotine, when it comes to vaping, taste and smell is everything.

Trust your senses, and if you receive a product that you're unsure about, don't use it.
Don't throw it away and write it off as a loss. Put it aside and contact the vendor immediately.
The vendor may require a sample back for testing, and if a real problem is found should issue a recall.
I sincerely hope that's not the case, but I'm not willing to risk that chance.
We've seen too many vendors ignore complaints, and be forced to issue recalls long after the fact, or worse.
To pretend that it couldn't happen to us would be foolish.

Again, thank you for bringing it to my attention, and I look forward to working with you to resolve the problem, and hopefully turn your bad experience into a long and happy DIY one.
