Help on a head rebuild

Vivi nova mini head. I wrapped 7 rounds, put it back together. Used a magnifying glass to make sure everything looks good. I'm reading .2 ohms screwed into my Vamo. Any ideas?

7 wraps in a vivi sounds like a couple too many. I would guess that they are touching at one point to create the very low readout. I have used 4-5 wraps and it comes out to the 2.0+ range.

7 wraps cold be a real tight fit inside the head, so JC could be right. Check to see if the coil is touching the head at either side.

It's possible, too, that if you didn't get the Kanthal clipped close enough, it's getting in contact with the air tube when you screw it in. I like to use a DMM for testing. I can check the coil before and after it gets attached to the base. If there's a significant difference, I look for that as the first possible fault.

Now for another newbie question. 1- Is are there any big believers in heating the wire with a lighter before assembly, and why?

2 - I have a Vision vivi that when dissembled I can blow through it freely. But when assembled it has a super tight hit. Can hardly blow or suck air through it. Any ideas?

The reason for this is to remove the "springiness" of the wire and to remove any residual oils and what not from the manufacturing process. Although I dont know what kind of crap the lighters flame will leave on the wire.

Ok.. That makes sense. Also I found a you tube vid with the guy using a butane lighter. Maybe that's why.

Do I need to match the ohms that the head was originally? I am rebuilding a 1.8, 2.4, and a 3.0.

Nope. Recoil to whatever value you want, within the range of your battery.

That's one of the advantages of winding your own. If you got a batch of new ones and don't like the way they perform, you just rewind to what you like.

OP....what did you use for wicking? I'm starting to rebuild and am wondering if silica or ecowool is better for the mini vivi and where to get it. any help would be appreciated...already ordered my wire from Temco. thx!!

Cotton butcher string. 220ft. for $4.43. Works great. I was told the 100% cotton route is a good way to go because it wicks well, and doesn't taint the flavor of your juice. Below is the link. Good luck! I found easy, and rewarding.
