Hey all,

I've been rebuilding PT2 single coil heads for a few months now and I've been researching the various methods for building (gauges of Kanthal, # of wraps, coil diameter, high vs. low ohms), but I still don't think I've quite got it straight. My goal is to crank as much heat as possible out of the coil, as I prefer a warmer vape.

I know using a top or dual coil clearo rather than a bottom single coil would help this, but having to tilt annoys me, dual coils guzzle juice, and I have yet to try a top coil that has anywhere near decent airflow. I also prefer something that is easily rebuildable, which is why I stick with the Kangers over something like the Nautilus.

I'm currently running 1/16" diameter 30ga coils @ 1.5 Ohms (8 wraps) on cotton wicking @ 11 watts (my APV's limit is 15).

I've recently read a couple posts that suggest 32ga will heat faster than 30, and that low ohms is more for mech mods and APVs will benefit from higher ohms (providing a larger voltage range). I just built a 1/16" 32ga coil @ 2.6 Ohms (9 wraps) as an experiment, but I haven't had a chance to vape it yet.

Any suggestions on how I could modify my setup for more heat?

You're probably getting slower response with the 32 ga 2.6 ohm coil. There's a fine line between running 32 gauge at a little higher resistance and 30 gauge a little lower. I've run 1.5 ohm coils in the PT2 with good results(not necessarily warmer results). If you really want a warmer vape then try a dripper or a carto-tank or a low resistance build in an RBA like a kayfun. As far as the protank and getting a warm vape, I've seen people make vertical coils in them. Not sure how much warmer the vape is but they seem to give a little more heat since the air is being sucked through the middle of the coil. They are pretty tricky and I haven't really ventured too far into it. There is a long thread on here about it. I can't seem to find it at the moment though. I'll come back and edit this if I find it.

Here it is:
