I suggest This regulator. Coupled with a 267 ohm resistor from pin 5 to ground, you will get 5v out.

If you order it from the TI website, you can get a free engineering sample.

this chip will not heat up like a standard linear regulator, and I have noticed a significant battery life increase over my last mod that used a standard 5v linear regulator.

I'll back o4_srt up on the fact that switching regulators are more efficient and generally function better. I do however believe you will need some caps in there along with it, so it may be a bit more complicated than the OP desired.

Considering he is in singapore, availability may be more of an issue.
From the spec any of the regs posted would work fine. I have no personal experience with them so I can't really comment on one over the other.

Hi All~

Seeking advice on which Voltage Regulators should i get..

I have narrowed down 3 which i believe will do the trick on a 5v Box Mod.
However, need advice on the best possible one. they are:

LD1085V50 , LM1085IT-5.0/NOPB and UCC383T-5

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Vape On! :vapor:

Even thought the LD1085V50 is called a low drop out. These are not good numbers

Dropout voltage IO =3 A 1.3 1.5 V. So no to this one

LM1085IT-5.0/NOPB

Same problem 1.3 to 1.5 drop out.

UCC383T-5

Much better choice
.45 volt drop out

And like SST_04 said the PTR08100W is one of the best chips to mod.

any one of them will work, I'm going to use a common LM7805 from radio shack in mine when I get to it.
Don't know your plans or atty but the RS 7805's are basically useless. They are rated for only 1A output and the drop voltage is about 2 volts, which means you'll only be getting 5V while the batts are at 7V.

I have in my stash now all from TI. UCC383T-5 , UC283, PTR08100W < i broke my pins on this, think i posted in another threat soem time ago.

Successfully requested another piece of PTR08100W from TI.
Made a 5v with UC283. not really loving it at the full 5v

you can make new pins with some tinned 24 AWG wire. I broke mine off too, made some new ones, works like a champ.

I've been vaping awhile and all the time chasing that elusive sweet spot of voltages. Just the other day I wired up a TI 4050, I'm now in the process of fixing my other mods with this booster. I found that the regulators (I've only tried one from a tremendous supplier of mod parts) are exceedingly harsh and extremely hard hitting. I put that mod on the shelf after 1 day of use, it is so bad I don't even want to sell it. If you'd like to try it PM me and you can have it for cost + shipping. So back to the point, I am only familiar with the TI 4050, I understand they may be discontinuing them, and rumor has it that a better booster is out there. So I'd say probably any of the suggested TI boosters would fill the bill. You can get samples from TI for free.
JMO good luck in your modding adventures

just another thought. With the regulator, I tried resistors & diodes to tame the beast to no avail. Guess I messed with it for more than one day but never was I happy with it.

I just noticed that you had another complication

tin a wire and then flux the component and the tinned wire next put a little blob of solder on your iron, hold your wire on the terminal and touch the wire and terminal with the blob of solder. You'll see the solder flow together and turn shiny. This only takes just a second so I'd suggest holding the wire and component in place with some device or clamp, this will free up both hands to do the solder job.
again best of luck to ya

BigBlue has presented 2 ways of finding "that elusive sweet spot of voltages" with 2 very detailed and well commented on posts, with 2 different types of TI regulators.

Many folks have used the PTN4050's, but if you read Mamu's post she found it lacking. Her's appeared properly built BTW. She then went with one one of the TI (UCC283/383) adjustables, following BigBlue's guide and is now in vaping heaven.

When moving from a Joye e-cig to a true 5V the WATTs are almost tripled... I would expect "exceedingly harsh and extremely hard hitting" to go with the territory.

I'm going to look up BigBlue and "that elusive sweet spot of voltages".I'll also check into Mamu's post. There's always more homework to do but I'm getting there now.
I'm looking to put another order to TI here shortly. As far as I know 5 samples the limit??
Thanks much for the info.
Again this will teach me for not doing daily studies of thousands of posts. lol Ya just gotta know where to look and who to look at.

Your info is solid gold. And I thought I was happy with the 4050 ( I am for the moment) until my next order. I did see BigBlue's posts on two different chips from TI. In fact I now have a bookmark BigBlue with many links to many parts. I'm so happy I have to sit on my hands to keep from waving at everybody!!!!! Gotta love this place.
Once more
a big thanks to ya'LL
