I just graduated from plain ecigs to an ego and I love it, but its only been 7 days and I'm already needing a third clearomizer due to a burnt taste I start getting after vaping for a couple of days. They are the ce4 type. I always keep the wicks wet with juice and I always refill juice before it gets half way empty. Am I doing something wrong? This could get expensive having to replace the clearomizers every couple of days.....is there a better alternative to these? Is it normal to go through them this quickly? I saw someone mention glass ones, would that make a difference and is it complicated to clean those? Not sure what to do, I get that yucky burnt taste after two days and get nasty burny type hits and the performance just drops in general. Thanks.

Hi, and welcome to ECF!

It doesn't seem normal to be burning through CE4 coils that quickly

What kind of liquid are you using? If I use darker liquids (chocolate fudge, to be precise) then I kill my coils, for example.

What kind of battery are you using (so we can get in idea of your voltage/wattage setup)

A glass clearo is another story, that probably won't make a difference to coil life so to speak. Glass is considered safer for more acidic flavors that can crack plastic. As for cleaning, I've found both plastic and glass to be mostly the same so far.

Cleaning the wicks and the coil if you can (google dry burning to see if that's an option on your CE4 wicks) might help too, might just be the wicks and/or coil getting gunked up which is causing the bad burnt taste.

Hi and Welcome to ECF :)

CE series to me very easily gets a burnt taste. It seems to my best guess, that they are just kind of cheap and cant keep up in the wicking department. There are a ton of alternatives and before going glass (unless you plan on vaping known tank crackers like cinnamon and citrus) that you would be better off to try a few top and bottom coil clearos to see which you prefer before moving onto a glass one so that you can get a glass version or similar to what you like most.

Its pretty cheap to do this, just check out sites like discountvapers and madvapes and order a few (many are under 5 bucks) of each top and bottom styles.

(for an example the DV BCC and DV Mini Vivi would be one of each)

Good luck and happy hunting!!

Best thing you can do is get something like a Mini Protank 2. I got one for my ego and it was like a whole new world. The taste is amazing, puts out more vapor, and you can take it all apart and clean it, its SUPER easy too. Plus you can get replacement coil heads for like 5 bucks for a 5 pack. I will be one of the best 15 bucks you can spend for your eGo.

Don't think you're doing anything wrong, you are doing one thing right though. You got on here! There will be all kinds of recommendations to help cure your problem, you will find one that works! I never had much luck with the CE4's and switched quickly. I have pretty good luck with protanks, evods, and some cheap carto tanks. Any of these will probably fit your likes. Unfortunately, you have to try them to decide what works for you.

If I were you, I'd walk, no, run away from the CE4's. I would use one in an emergency, but no for everyday full-on use. I'm a Kranger man myself. They are easily assembled and then disassembled for cleaning. If it were me, I'd get a Kanger Mini Protank II. They are not too much work either. Get an extra 5 pack of 2.2 ohm coils and a bit of 1 mm silica wick. I've got 4 of them in rotation, nice little tanks!!

Thank you and I'm using vaporwize juice in watermelon jolly rancher and also banana split. I don't know what battery I have the girl at the store didn't tell me but I know it doesn't have adjustable voltage or anything its the very basic one.......and it doesn't say anywhere on it that I can see. If I do the replaceable coils, how do I learn how to replace them? I'm a total newbie and have no clue as to all these parts and things.

I've been using kanger t3s' for a couple of months now and really like them. I have about 10 extra coils that I rotate, soak in ever clear when they get funky, dry burn and change the flavor wicks and they are good to go for another 5 or 6 days.

Curly

I like those too, but kinda hard to clean the tank itself. Gives a good vape tho!!

My suggestion is get on these forums and read...and then read some more. Vaping can be a wild ride, so hang on and enjoy it!! And get your wallet ready too. Add-To-Cart can be your nemisis if you let it. So many nice things, so nice and shiny...oooooooooo!!

Sounds like you are using a sweet based liquid which might explain the coil gunk and bad taste.

I'd agree with the others, getting a different clearo will probably fix your problems. Depends what you are willing to invest in terms of money though.

All suggestions are spot on so far. If you want a cheap alternative, EVODS, otherwise look at Kanger Pro tanks and beyond. The choice is quite literally staggering though - so do some homework :D

I have been having real problems with clearomizers too. Might not be the same issue but this might be helpful to you. I have an ego K battery, which likewise came with ce4 clearomizers.

My CE4's leak like a sieve. I'm constantly having to shake the juice out of them and clean them and I felt like I was just wasting a lot of juice. I've kept them as a backup but I rarely use them anymore.

I've fallen in love with Evod clearomizers - and with the original coil they work great and everything tastes delicious in them. Removing the coil heads every couple of days and rinsing in hot water, then soaking in vodka makes them great again when they start getting gunky, and you can usually remove most of the flavor from the wick so you can switch out. Don't replace them, just clean them :D I am getting 3 weeks out of them even using the darkest ejuices and vaping like a maniac all day.

Here is a caution for you though, if you have a similar setup - be very careful that the replacement coil units you buy are the right resistance. The vape store sold me 1.8 ohm ones, and they burn every juice I have. The store insists that "it shouldn't be" a problem but it is a serious problem that turns light to darkness and casts a curse and pestilence upon your vaping world.

Ditto selling you other replacement clearomizers of lower resistance than you need. You fill them up and it's instant yuck. So if you are buying new clearos and all of them are tasting burnt, check that the amount of ohms... is not too damn low. Ego-K at least for sure needs 2.2 ohms or higher.

I have just figured all this out after spending way too much on replacement heads and new clearomizers. I was lucky enough that one of my evods actually came in a box (usually they don't)... which I saved... and was able to look at the specs on it. To be honest I'm a little annoyed that the vape shops were selling me completely wrong clearos because I go in with the original tanks and show them the battery and they still sell me the wrong clearos and coil heads. I asked why my new tanks were burning everything and was told that either it was a bad batch or that my battery was having issues. They then sell me a whole new Evod clearo that works beautifully until I put the wrong coil in it that they sold me also.

Sorry about that last ranty bit but the point is, know your equipment and what will work with it - don't rely on the people at the shop to be able to sell you the right coils that go with the tanks they already sold you LOL

Well,I decided to go to the local vapor shop, I ended up upgrading to an ego twist, got a kgr. Pro tank and extra coils, plus a bottle of grapezilla juice, all I can say is wow!!

Sounds like you're back on track! Those CE4's were the pits when I was getting started. Dry hits, burnt taste & leaking! I'm sooooo glad you got backups & switched tank systems.

BTW, welcome to ECF & congrats on making the switch to vaping! Hope you hang around! There's always tons more to learn & great people to help you out when you need it:)
