Pipe cleaners are great for cleaning out the air tube.

Also, did you remove the air tube and flavor wicks to dry burn? You really need to see the coil to dry burn. I find the flavor wicks generally aren't reuseable, and replace with a strand of cotton yarn, good fit, wicks well. Trim after putting the air tube back on. Sometimes the Davide (and other bottom coil units) will leak and gurgle if the flavor wicks aren't placed right. If using two strands of 1 mm silica wick they need to be parallel, not crossed. Sometimes the simple act of washing can skew them.

I used soft, not brush type, pipe cleaners, q-tips, cotton ballls, paper towels/napkins, towel, everclear, hot water, etc, etc.
Yes, I had it to the point that I could see the coil glow while dry burning. I think I just wasn't getting it tight enough. I was concerned about over tightening, but loss of hand strength due to age, seems I probably don't have to worry about that.

By the time I finished the last cleaning, etc, it was working fine before I went to bed and seems fine this morning. There is only the faintest crackle when vaping, the same as the ones I used at the store to test juices, so I guess it's ok. Doubt it can be 100% silent.

I did not remove the wicks when I cleaned/dry burned. Being a day old, they cleaned well and I dried them well and had no problem dry burning.

Right now, it's fine, just wish it would work on the PW, save the batt charge.

In my experience with pro tank style coils, and I have davide mini's too(4 of them). I have over tightened them to the batt, and 'choked off' airflow. After this happens, it is most likely that it flooded the coil due to drawing liquid (from the pressure) from the tank instead of air through the air channel. A quick cleaning of the air tube, contacts (like you did) normally restores the performance.

I love the davides. They work as good as anything I've tried. I also rebuild the coils. I use 2 mm silica wick with no flavor wick on a 1.8 coil. No leaking, no dry hits, no flooding as long as I don't 'choke' it lol. As for cleaning, about every two tanks or so, I rinse them with as hot water as my fingers can stand (lol) then shake, blow out, install, then fill n vape. :) It would be best if I let them dry completely, but I get into a hurry sometimes. I just pulse the coil as I draw, and don't inhale for a few vapes until I see vapor production.

I don't like to dry burn anymore. I can't stand the taste of burnt liquid/wick. Plus, I don't waste any time dissembling the coil every time (lazy, I know). With this method, I get as much as a month use before I replace the coil.

I have noticed with a couple of tanks I have (ones with removable drip tips) that if I use tips that do not "bottom out" in the hole, that I get liquid build up and it seems to cause gurgling. I think what is happening, especially with bottom coils is that some of the vapor is condensing on its way up the tube, and getting trapped in that little space between the drip-tip and the well, then finding its way back down the tube, causing the gurgling.

But, of course, I could just be crazy, so take it with a grain of salt.
