So, my sister smokes roll-your-owns with Drum tobacco and has for years. She'd probably buy packs, but she doesn't have much money and the bulk tobacco is a lot cheaper. She smokes many every day, though I couldn't say precisely how many -- probably around 20, but it could be more. I don't smoke at all.

I worry some about her, so I floated the idea that maybe she'd like vaping. She said she thought it sounded like a great idea, but that it's too expensive to get into the scene. I'd like to help her with that. I'll buy her a full kit, and the first couple rounds of liquid (or whatever you guys recommend).

So, the question is, where do I begin? I found this forum and I'm hoping you can help. It's for a truly good cause. She's not really a techie, so I don't see her dorking out on this stuff. I'm hoping we can make it pretty low maintenance. So, here are the three requests -- easy to use/maintain, cool for a girl (though she's not really "girly" -- more dramatic/theatrical type), and similar tasting to what she smokes now (I think that's what she'll like best, but I'm not sure).

There's really no cost restriction on the hardware (within reason -- $200?), but the refills will eventually be on her, so we'll want to be more sensitive there. She lives in the middle of nowhere and a long way from me, so we can't really visit a local shop together. I'll probably have to buy online.

Can you folks help me?

Look at an Innokin iTaste vv V3. Not too big but a pretty decent mod. Pair that up with a Kanger minitank 2 and she'll be in business. I'd also get her a small ego battery for a back up and possibly another mini protank for a back up. You can order juice from Mt Baker but I'd get a variety of flavors. Most don't stick with tobbaco flavors. I'd start her out with 18mg of nicotene. You should be able to get all this for about $100 depending on how much juice you get.

Agreed with above, well, just about...

I would suggest 2 different sized eGo Variable Voltage style batteries (one high mAh {1100mAh} and one smaller lower mAh {~450mAh}). There are a few different options for manufacturer, but they are all about the same, eGo Twist, Vision Spinner or Kanger Evod - so it comes down to which you (or she) likes the look of.

Pair the battery with a couple protank 2 minis and some spare heads and she will be set. She will also need a charger (USB or mains).

As for the juices, maybe get her a tobacco one and a delicious fruity or desert one.

Good luck, you sound like a great sibling to have.

Gonna throw my $.02 in on the liquid. For the tobacco get something that is NET (naturally extracted tobacco). It'll taste more like the real deal, but still not exactly like it. I also second (third?) the idea of getting another flavor or two, maybe one dessert and one fruit. She may find she likes those better or even just to switch things up (vaping one flavor gets kind of boring when there are so many options).

I'm gonna go a little further out on a limb here and recommend an MVP 2 to start with , it leaves a little bit more room to grow and since it's pass through it can be used while charging , topped off with an Aspire bdc and set to wattage mode there's no worries about having to readjust for resistance level and the battery capacity is double that of an Ego type battery . I know all of this sounds confusing but what it boils down to is the MVP 2 self adjusts to the tank you put on it .

I'd recommend and I taste Clk personally. Small, cheap, easy to use, and variable voltage. I bought mine initially as just another battery because I kept killing of my ego-c before the end of the day and didn't want to feel like I wanted a cigarette just because my vape pen was dead. I've loved the little thing since I got it and will probably use it as an away from home vape indefinitely. The clk also has a pass through so even if it does die you can just plug it in and keep vaping. As far as juice goes I'd recommend The Vapor Room at the moment, I haven't tried any other online stores, but I really like everything I have tried from the so far.

Honestly, if you're not sure if shes even going to take to it- buy a cheap $15 ego starter kit ( battery, topper, and charger)and maybe 15ml of single flavor eliquid that she may be able to mix by herself or buy cheaply.

Or go to SmokelessImage , com for the cigalike batteries.

    And send her here.

I would keep it very basic and simple, hard telling how she is going to take it in. The last link is for juice, for starters order the USA mix, not the Red USA mix, it is very basic and will provide her the feeling of smoking without too much flavor involved. Start with a 10ml bottle at 18 or 24mg of nicotine, get both so she can have a good point of nicotine to start, my guess is she will need a high amount like 24 but 18 will be close, she may even need as high as 36mg but do not recommend that level for good reason so 18 to 24 is a safe level to begin out on.

As for the clearomisers, a CE 5 is dirt cheap, with replaceable coil heads that are very simple to change and to purchase.

The Vision Spinner is also inexpensive and has some power control to "dial in" to meet her needs coupled with a reasonably long battery charge life.

All this will cost under 60 dollars if that....the prices are on the links I gave you.....GL!:D

Since you're willing to spend a decent amount of cash, I would recommend the MVP 2 also. But if you think she would rather have something more slim, a good Ego starter kit like this KGO Electronic Cigarette Starter Kit | Virgin Vapor | Electronic Cigarette Organic e-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes would maybe be more "girly". There are no settings to confuse a newby and you get two of everything except the charger.

I second the advice about the mini Protank 2 Mini Protank 2 Single . Get a couple or more of those since the CE4s that come with the kit are OK at best and are disposable so you can't replace the coil heads. Then buy several flavors from Mt. Baker vapor. Over $50 gets you free shipping from them and that buys quite a few 15ml bottles.

That's not a good idea, she will not be able to put down her ciggs with that.
Also why did you break the link, are they unregistred supplier here? You're not allowed to post the link then.

For hardware i'd go either 2x itaste v3s (to use one while one is charging) Or mvp.
Mini protank 2 is a great choise, even better is mini aerotank but that's abit more expensive than mini pro tank 2 though.

I started with vision spinner + mini protank 2 and did just great. But then it all turned into a hobby... :-/

As for juice you would be best of trying to find some nice NET juice (natural extracted tobacco) I like strix elixirs vanilla bogart. Lots of tobacco flavor with a hint of vanilla. And buy her some desert/fruits to try aswell.

Most of us who quit smoking quickly change from tobacco flavors to fruity/deserts rather quickly.

Buy it in 50/50 blend 18mg, i think 50/50 blends is the best for newbies. Decent flavor whilst having decent vapor.
Higher PG will give more taste but less vapor, higher VG gives more vapor but alittle bit muted flavor.

I have reasons for those choices. Have a good day!

E Cigarette | Buy Electronic Cigarettes | E Juice - Mt Baker Vapor

These are the sites/purchases I would recommend. The MVP 2.0 is a bit more advanced than a vision spinner or c twist but the reason I suggest it over them is the battery life. The battery lasting your sister ~3 days would result in lower maintenance on her part. The battery is also built in, meaning that she won't have to pull the batteries out when they die, again less maintenance. I suggest the the mini protank 3 or even the 2, because kangertech makes some of the best hasselfree tanks. This combined with it being glass means that she doesn't have to worry about her liquids as much. The replacement coils are for in the event that she runs out. The link to Mount Baker Vapor is for eliquid. I find that for the cost, they are one of the best eliquid companies around. They have a nice selection of tobacco flavors, including their GwaRy4 which I've heard is a really good Ry4. When it comes to juices, it's all about personal taste so I would get her a decent selection of flavors and let her branch out as she wants. You say you think she smokes about 20 cigarettes a day and that is similar to what I smoked prior to vaping. I vape a 30ml bottle of ejuice in a week, give or take and the bottle tends to run between $8 and $10 a day. A significant improvement over the cost of analogs. I wish you and your sister luck in her future vaping journey.

I'd go with a cheap and simple starter kit as you don't know how she will get on with it. In fact, two of them so she has a spare for when the battery runs out, and a couple of spare toppers. If you shop around you might be able to find pink ones or something. If you're willing to spend more then you could offer to upgrade her kit if she decides something else would suit her better.

As for liquids, I'd recommend a selection in 18 and 12 mg/ml, in 50/50 PG/VG ratio as a starting point. Tobacco flavours often aren't the best so you might look at fruits and desserts instead. 4 x 10ml will keep her going for a couple of weeks unless she ends up using it extremely heavily.

Good luck to her quitting smoking!

First you have to consider the psychological, physical and financial aspects in making suggestions in equipment....First off the smoker is not looking to quit but the sibling wishes for her to quit, she is about to be confronted with a "foreign" concept in her world and may very well reject the idea entirely.....Second, we do not know the financial position the smoker is in, can she afford a upscale piece of equipment ie; coils and tanks, these are usually the most often purchased, can she afford a 3.95 coil or is a 1.95 coil more in her ballpark. And is she fully capable of maintaining the equipment physically.

Now all that said, the equipment suggested such as the MVP 2.0 and Protanks and Aspire products are moderate to high priced compared to a Vision style coil or disposable cartos....but is it worth laying out that cost in the hope she even uses them? My frugal side says no...why waste the money on a MVP or any other item in the same range if it is not going to be used after she gives vaping a try?....All the suggestions are good and in a person looking to really VAPE I would agree with most all of them, but we are dealing with a person who at this moment thinks in the coming days she is going to be rolling her smokes, not even considering a new alternative method to make the switch.....A person HAS to be in the mindset to quit to start with, to try via a electronic cig is for some, mind blowing! Even frightening in ways.

95% of new users try to find a tobacco substitute, to emulate the regular cig in order to quit, the suggestion of fruit and candy etc flavors at this point in time is jumping ahead of the game. She will be expecting to mimic her tobacco. Now once she gets into the vaping realm, flavored juices can be something she can decide to try but for her to use "cherry delight" or "creme brule" right out of the starting gate will not emulate the tobacco she uses thus give up and return to smoking for the fact she needs a tobacco "fix".

Ok I have shared my 2 cents, hope you understand and agree!:D

Holy smokes! (apologies) This has to be the most generous forum ever. Thank you all so much for your advice. If I were to go the Innokin iTaste vv V3 route (I may go with that KGO kit), any suggestions on where I buy one? I found this one, but it's tough to know who to trust as I'm not familiar with any of the distributors: [deleted]

As for whether she takes to it or not, I'm not really worried about the money. I'd rather err on the side of her having a really great experience. I hope she takes to it, and my mission is to make it as easy as possible. I'm of the impression that vaping is way better than analog (if I have the jargon right), even if she never quits.

I really didn't expect much in the way of replies. Thanks again, all.

101vape.com has some of the best prices out there. An MVP runs $40 (plus shipping of course). And that's a highly regarded unit (I'm an Innokin fan but have the VTR myself). Definitely check them before buying...

From what I can tell the innokin itaste VV 3 at misthub has a great price. - I have a kanger evod 2, but wish I had either vv 3 or the mpv, and eventually want to upgrade to those, the price over at misthub is less than what my evod kit wound up being.

Honestly, I would go the least overwhelming route possible. What might be a really good idea is to get her a starter kit, get her a sampler of different flavored juices, a couple 18 mg strengths, a couple at 12 mg. I'm pretty sure that there are a couple vape shops online that have gift cards, that might be your best bet, get her enough to get started, and either give her a gift certificate or go shopping online WITH her once she gets her feet wet :)

As someone who just stopped smoking RYO cigarettes, and got re-started vaping, I can tell you that the less fiddling she has to do right at the start, the better. There ARE ways to do this cheaper - (DIY juice/coils) but you don't have to worry about all that just yet.

Innokin iTaste MVP 2.0 Energy Starter Kit

Innokin iTaste VV v3.0 Starter Kit BEST PRICE ONLINE- MistHub -swoon- They are just so pretty!

sidenote: When you are choosing flavors, you want to be careful because there are juices that will crack polycarb tanks that come in these kits, I'm not sure which ones do this, but I'm sure someone can chime in and 'splain that if need be.
