Hello!
Fairly new to e-cigs. I currently have some eGo 510 model (no idea which, doesn't say!), with the clear top caromizers. The performance of the unit is OK, but I have serious concerns about the materials used.

I have mixed some of my own E-juice so I can't say to what extent my different formulations played a role, but I noticed the black plastic pieces look a bit "white" on the edges now, like something has reacted with the plastic slightly and dried it out. I have added d-limonene and ethanol to my mixtures in smaller amounts. They are both safe to vape but limonene (natural orange solvent) can be aggressive to some plastics.

So I want a rebuildable cartomizer that has preferably all metal with maybe a
PMMA
or actual glass side window.

I know of one called the AC9 which is actually built near me in NC but they are almost always sold out.

Can somebody recommend a cartomizer with much more robust material choices that will be disclosed by the manufacturer???

Hi and welcome to ECF. The problem is the limonene you're using. Acidic juices will degrade plastic. You need either a carto+ glass tank or the new Kanger Glass ProTank that's about to be released...don't forget though there's also wicking in it. Could always re wick with cotton though.

Edit: actually you could get a Vision Mini Vivi Nova with the metal sleeve.

Thanks! That gives me a good starting point.

I understand the wicks (my ego carts I am using little 1.5ohm tops with 2 fat wicks), but I am unsure of the point you are making about it. Do you mean the wicks themselves are incompatible with limonene? Or are you suggesting I shove more cotten into the cartomizer to keep it suspended off the plastic walls as much as possible?

Read my edit re: metal tank. There have long been issues with acidic juices destroying plastic tanks. Hence the new Glass tank.

The wicks in clearomizers, etc are made of silica and some people cringe at the thought as there's the possibility of silica shards entering the lungs. Pros and cons have been posted about the silica wicks.

If the acidic juice is in the plastic tank there's no way of keeping it from eating the plastic.

ok thanks that clears it up.. good point I wouldn't have thought about the wick material yet... :) and yea I used the wrong term, I currently have a "Cleartomizer" not a cartomizer... still figuring out the terms :)

I found these cool Pyrex Tanks, now I just need to figure out what kind of atomizer needs to go in them:

New! Pyrex Glass Tanks For Your Ecig

Edit: that website SUCKS. they say what cartomizer that tank works with, but you can't even find that cartomizer anywhere. They say the "Smok Tech Pre-punched 45mm(XL) tank cartomizers" But they dont list cartomizers by mm size anywhere... just by mL. I hate sites like this... next...

IBTanked - Get Tanked With Us! is cheaper and has a huge and loyal following. You need a cartomizer with holes...

Cartomizer+Tank- a Cartomizer with a hole punched in it. Carto is than placed in a glass, metal or plastic tank which is filled with juice- juice saturates Carto by way of hole in Carto.

Your best bet would be to switch to a glass carto-tank. They use a cartomizer surrounded by a glass sleeve which holds additional fluid, which is continuously fed into the cartomizer when you take a vape.

IBTanked - Get Tanked With Us! has the best overall deal on glass tanks. A little over $20 for a 19mm diameter tank with stainless steel end caps. You'll want to get the SS ones, as plastic endcaps could melt with your juice just like the clearo did. I've heard that Delrin is a safe plastic for acidic juices but not sure if their plastic caps are Delrin or not. Might as well be safe and get the stainless endcaps.

Then you need to purchase cartomizers to put inside the tank. You can get pre-punched ones from both Boge and Smoktech (actually laser drilled not punched) which relieves you of the issue of punching your own cartos, if not done carefully you can bend the carto out of shape and it won't fit into the tank.

EDIT: Vapoor beat me to it! :) We need an IBtanked link button that we can press to automatically post IBtanked links. I feel like I post a link to them at least once a day haha.

These are only for advanced users but something to keep in mind for down the road seeing as you're concerned about materials used in the delivery devices. Again these have a HUGE learning curve but are an amazing vape. Known as RBAs- Rebuildable Atomizers

Edit: Some are now re wicking their Clearos/ Vivi Novas with Stainless Steel Mesh.

Bottom line....lottsa stuff out there
