Hello! I've been vaping for only 10 days and jusy got a riva 510-t. I think I overfilled it as I am getting liquid in my mouth when I inhale. Also, I used a new-to-me flavor when I filled it and I absolutely hate the taste. I can't figure out how to clean it out and start over. I took the cart off and it was empty, put a different one on with a different liquid - apparently both were really bad ideas lol as I guess both carts of liquid are now in there, overfilling and mixing flavors. I don't think I understand where the liquid is??! So is there some way to start over? and where in the heck is the liquid? I'm sorry for such a basic question, but I'm vaping every three seconds in the hopes of clearing it out and I kinda wanna hurl from the flavor :)

Hi aztraea and welcome to ECF. The Riva otherwise known as the Kgo is a great PV. The problem lies in the cartridge system with many reporting leakage. I've never used them so I can't help but definitely think about another delivery system like cartomizers or clearomizers as they are less problematic. Not a very costly issue as you've got a great PV.

Argh! I put another cartridge in and seem to have fixed the leaking problem, yay! Although - 3 cartridges in a few hours is quite a learning curve lol. I still kind of taste the liquid I don't like, but now I mainly taste a totally burned nasty flavor. What the heck? I can actually see the liquid in the cartridge this time, so I know it isn't empty... I so want to make this work as the TH and ease of draw is so nice!

If it's anything like the ego-t or similar tank models, your PV has a wick that needs to be kept moist with juice. If it doesn't, you will get that burnt flavour and if you puff too many times with that burnt flavour, it will be very hard to get out. Also, the liquid you're getting into your mouth may be condensation.

I would place an order for some cartos or something as back-up (boge LR's are kind of a standard) while you learn more and work the kinks out of what you're enjoying.

Sigh, Yep, I'm guessing that I burned the wick back when I couldn't figure out where the liquid was. I'm so confused though since, even though I couldn't see the liquid, I had tons of vapor and flavor. Now that I can see the liquid and assume I have everything attached correctly, it tastes burnt. I'm about three seconds away from driving to the store for some analogs. It doesn't help that I've wasted most of the bottle of e juice that I have trying to figure this out. Thanks for the help, everyone.
Zurrix - should I put a couple of drops directly on the wick or does it stay wet enough being in the cart? Also, are cartos you mention just the clear plastic thing I'm putting the liquid in? Those seem pretty easy to clean out and refill, but I will get some more.

Ok lets see if I understand what you have. You have a metal atomizer that screws on the battery right? When you look in the end you see a piece of wire mesh? On the open end of this you snap on a plastic cartridge that has a small piece of "fluff" in it?

If this is what you have, you put 8 or so drops of liquid into the "fluff" so it's moist & slushy but not dripping out. You then snap this on the atomizer and vape for a little while. To change flavors, you can remove and rinse the atomizer in hot water and dry it. You can remove the "fluff" from the cartridge and squeeze it dry in a paper towel and then refill it.

If I guessed right, this should help you.

Yes, you need some cartomizers as that 2 piece system is crap...

The wick is burnt and you need to clean it or dry burn unless it's too far gone. As stated above either buy cartomizers( element + filler in a metal tube) or the much easier clearomizers (wick+ element in a plastic tube with NO filler)

No, it's eGo's excuse for a "tank" and they are generally just as bad as the system I described. I've never used them but a friend did and it was terrible. You need to get some decent cartomizers as that's the easiest fix. There are a few vendors in FL so see if any are near you...

It should stay wet enough by being moved around and having the liquid pass over it. Do a search for Boge cartomizer and order 5 or 10 of them. They are a lot less hassle, if they're filled properly. You have a little bit of research to do, but relax, everyone here has gone through similar frustrations. It's part of the process, unfortunately.

Yep, I'm using the other atomizer with no problem so I'm hoping I can salvage the first one. It'll be pretty sad if I destroyed it in the first hour I owned it!
Yes this is an atomizer + a cartridge that they call a "tank". It's really not a tank system. The best cartomizers I've found that work on the Kgo/ Riva (same model diff name) are the Smok Teck 1.7 single coil XL cartomizers aka The Resurectors. They hold 1.8 ml of juice and get high praise. Here's review:

I'll post a cleaning vid for your burnt atomizer shortly but make sure the good atty has plenty of juice on it.

There may not be enough juice in the cartridge. Pre filled cartridges are usually not very tasty and sometimes can sit on the store shelf for awhile. "If" you need to smoke go ahead as this is no race or exam. I believe and will always believe vaping should be comfortable and completely stress free. At least you have a great PV...adding on additional stuff shouldn't be too expensive and the system that you're are using is rarely used nowadays because of such issues.

Ok, I'll check all that out in a minute, but the new atty is getting the burnt taste. I only took two drags with it like that, so hopefully no permanent damage. It still has plenty of liquid in it. ???? So the plastic carts that it came with are most likely the problem?

It doesn't matter the brand of the atty. Here are instructions:
Even though Joye eGo-T atomizer is a revolutionary discovery, it is still an atomizer. You still need maintain it by cleaning regularly, it even needs more frequently cleaning owing to its larger consumption of e-liquid. It is better if you blow out the old e-liquid out every night before bed and let them dry overnight.

1. Use a brand new Joye eGo-T atomizer by starting from blowing the primer fluid out of the atomizer. Simply, blow hard from the battery end into a napkin, keep doing several times until no more fluid coming out.

Then prime the Joye eGo-T atomizer, put a couple of drops e-liquid into the piercing unit, then connect it to Joye eGo-T cartridges.

2. If your Joye eGo-T atomizer is not a new one, completely cleaning is more necessary. We gather several popular cleaning methods below:

A. Hot Water: Boil Joye eGo-T atomizers in hot water for more than 10 minutes and then dry at least overnight.

B. Hot water with baking soda or coco cola: The same method as above, but add some soda or coco cola to the hot water. Rinse well. Dry well.

C. Alcohol: Drip small amount of regular alcohol into the atomizer, then rinse out with hot water, shake out well, then blow out.

E. Dry Burn: Rinse under VERY hot water. Dry 48 hours, attach the atomizer to a manual battery, hold the battery button for 5-8 seconds, then release, continue "press & release" until no more vapor comes out.

Make sure it is completely dry and prime them with e-liquid before using. After cleaning, it may take a little while for Joye eGo-T atomizer to break in.

They're not prefilled. I'm filling them myself. I have a nearly dead Kr808 that's gotten me this far But I've used like a quarter bottle of juice with those in 10 days and I've gone through that much today just on this thing. Sheesh!
Then either the machine oil is coming through or the cartridge needs topping off.
Here's a vid on filling cartridges
