Help! Tight lungs and shallow breath

The local store (still an hour away) only had 100% pg liquid. I bought a bottle and finally tried it tonight. I had to use a used carto since I did not have a new one. So I added the new stuff and started vaping. After a few puffs, the new liquid worked through. Then, KABOOM, my lungs exploded. I could hardly breath, I almost had my wife call an ambulance. So, it is definitely the PG.

Now I will go back to analogs until I can get some new cartos and some 100% VG. Anyone know of a good place to get 100% vg?

Thanks for all of your help everyone!

Also, how much juice did you put into your carto? I ask this because a LOT of new people have a tendency to put in too little, and then they're breathing burning carto filler, which will also give you that horrible reaction. Most cartos take at least a ml of juice, which is a surprisingly large amount (more than you'd think, drop-wise).

Okay, then rule out the burning carto issue. :) And yeah, go to VG juice for a bit. In fact, the cheapest way to confirm that VG is "safe" for you is to pick up a bottle of USP (food-grade) vegetable glycerin - Walmart carries it, so do a lot of drug stores - and try just vaping a little bit of that, with no flavorings or nicotine in it. It tends to be a lot thicker than PG is, so if you like cartos, be prepared to take a little while at filling them... it absorbs a lot more slowly.

If you head to Walmart for your USP-grade VG, grab some distilled water while you're there. You can use about 20% distilled water to thin it out nicely.

You may loose a couple drops worth out the bottom, but much more than that you may want to fill slower and make sure you are only dripping around the edges onto the filler material.

If there's one rule about vaping, it's that everyone is different. That goes for tastes, reactions, etc. Some people say they can't even use carto's without side effects for example and stick to atties instead.

Whatever you do, your reaction is clearly NOT mild, so, please do be careful whatever you try!

I agree with wolcen on that. Your reaction's pretty dramatic, and I would be cautious as you proceed. This doesn't mean you have to stop vaping. You just have to find out what works for you. :) Everyone's reactions to different setups are way, way different. Heck, my husband and I smoked the same kind of cigarettes for years... and he uses 24mg juices, and I use 12-18mg juices, because his are only good when I'm having an analog craving, and for only a few puffs. ;)

There are many things that can do this and the answer is always: move to another brand of liquid first, then try mostly PG or mostly VG, to see if something can be identified that is causing the issue.

Avoid anything that looks as if it might have a bit of a kick to it. You may need a very 'mild' mix, with less flavoring.

It is impossible for everyone to tolerate all possible ingredients without some kind if issue showing up for some. Usually the problem will be minor, but it still needs fixing. It's likely that as many as 5 out of 100 may find one particular brand, or type of ingredient, may not agree with them. These are the most common causes:

- Intolerance to PG
- Intolerance to a certain type of VG
- Intolerance to a flavoring
- Intolerance to a low-quality PG or other ingredient
- Intolerance to a brand, that cannot be more accurately refined as to the exact cause
- A much milder 'build' of liquid could be needed - sometimes they are made on the strong side as people complain when the throat hit is too weak - and this doesn't help people who like it mild; less flavoring may help

With luck you find this out fairly soon - as in your case - and get the message to move on to another brand. I had a very strong reaction to one brand of VG and quickly moved on. No problems at all with other brands.

It's probably a good thing to find a problem early on. How to fix it several months down the line is a bit more worrying, as it would be hard to work out what is going on. If you get an unwanted reaction within a week then it's not hard to sort out.

With ultra-sensitive lungs, and unable to smoke more than about 6 or 8 cigs a day without getting bronchitis, my lungs haven't been better since I was young, after two and a half years' vaping.

I don't know why you would go back to cigarettes so quickly if they were killing your lungs anyway, but first thing in the morning is a bad time for smoking and/or vaping. Let them "wake up" with the rest of your body. If you can't wait for a little while before your first vape, try a juice with less of a throat hit at a lower voltage and have some water or another fluid handy. I start with a smooth chocolate in the morning because, for some reason, my grape is just too harsh in the morning and makes me cough (oddly, my chocolate is 24mg and the grape is 16mg). You could also try some breathing exercises upon waking to open up your lungs. Good luck to you!
