i believe that if you hold the right (+) button too long it will go into a charging mode for other devices like a phone.
Try holding down the right button for a about 15-20 sec. and see if something comes up on the screen. I have heard that some versions of the V5 can be used like that.

Hope it helps!
Good Luck!!! :toast:

This is accurate for all but the earliest V5's that were produced. Holding the button for 15 seconds will place the controller into a "Mobile Charge" mode that will constantly discharge the battery through any connected accessory that completes the circuit. This is for use with a 510-to-USB adapter (not a 510 USB Charger) for use as a backup charger for your phone, iPod, etc.

As shynsly said, all you need to do is hold the button down again for 15 secs (doesn't matter if the mod is on or off) and it should solve your problem. If not, post some pics.

Good luck,
Bill

I did try holding down the + and - buttons for a really long time. Holding the - button down for a really long time seemed to toggle it between "Output Mean" and "Output RMS." Holding down the + button didn't seem to do anything. Anyway, I took the battery out and nudged the contact since it seemed a bit off center and now it won't fire at all.

Thing is a really like the sleek design of the Vamo 5. Definitely prefer it over the clunkier ITaste SVD.

Anyway, assuming that I did inadvertently put it in charge mode and perhaps it then overheated since I didn't know what was happening, i.e., assuming it might have been my fault, I am thinking of buying another Vamo 5. They are pretty cheap. And I do like the design. But maybe I should consider something more reliable. Any suggestions for something sleek and at least as small as the Vamo 5 that has vv/vw and has a similar range (3-15 Watts; 3-6 Volts)? A counter would be nice too. Especially, if I ever get around to quitting altogether.

If you can manage to get the top pressfit off, you'll find the inside real simple;
and since the pcb board is obtainable, it's a rather maintainable mod

This is actually a V3, and I'm guessing the only difference with the v5 is the pcb board itself.

I have both the V3 and the V5. The only difference between the two is the case spiral. They did update the V3/V5 PCB early in the V5 production to allow a constant on feature. Maybe the newer V3's are the same too, but IDK.

Overall, the Vamo's have treated me well. There are few faults with it I'll list...

1, is a bad center pin insulation. They use a fairly cheap rubber to insulate the center pin and it seems to fail fairly often... Mine allowed juice to flow into the PCB.
2, Some models are coated brass... including the 510 connector. This may result in crossthreading if you're not carefull.
3, the unit is press fitted. That means that if you drop it, it could make it look bent. Not too much of an issue unless you abuse your mod.
4, the V3's are just ugly IMO.
5, There is too much of a gap between the V5's 510 connector and the top of the top ring. Even though unscrewing the mod can make it look flush, it's too much of a gap IMO.

That's just about it. with the few problems I've listed, that's not too much of an issue considering their price. My V3 is still working strong, and I still use it.

If you don't mind the wait, Focal Ecig has the Vamo V5 on "group buy" for $20.. ATM. which is cheaper than many mechanical mods. If you want a spare, you might want to consider picking one up and just waiting. If you're looking for a replacement brand of mod, you might want to try a Nemesis with a VW kick. with that option, you have your VW, but loose the display. Also, you can go fully mechanical if you want in the future. It's also harder to change settings.

Looking at my main vendor, Here's some comparable options.

Kmax
Smoketech SID
Vmax V9
Sigeli Zmax
Sigeli 20w mod

Also:
Sigeli Legend
Provari
Joytech Evic

There will be new mods comming out that support 30w. Not counting the box mods....
Evic Supreme
Kangside 30w
Seven 30

This should provide you with enough reference to look at for a while (and everyone else too)

I had an SVD that had a problem like that. I drenched it several times in isopropyl alcohol from the connector and button end. After a few weeks of it drenching and letting it dry the button started working again. If you don't like opening things up like me, try it. It might be some eliquid trapped inside the electronics. Lost for lost...

I had a vamo v5 that after a month is starting to have connector issues (constant low load error even when plugging in tank) Personally I dont like the electronics or reliability of this mod at all, and it is basically useless to me. My vision spinner batteries have lasted longer than my vamo v5 :(

I have bought a tesla vw from ebay for about 36$ bucks. It does not seem to have much frills, but it does do 3w to 15w and a plus is the connector pin is spring loaded, so hopefully no more connector issues. And if I really don't like it I suppose I can return it.

I am thinking about getting a provari as it does have a really great warranty and most people really emphasize its durability and reliability.
I may still ruminating on that one.

+1 this.

You can get the board from FastTech for $11.64 and free shipping:
$11.64 VOMO V5 Variable Voltage/Wattage Mod Module - 3.0-15.0W / 3.0-6.0V / 0.6" OLED at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
Not much to fix it yourself if you have a few basic hand tools and a little soldering skill.
Good luck with it, if you run into issues, I'll be happy to help.

Bill
