I have to ask this here since I am a new member and cannot post anywhere else till I have 5 posts here. I recently bought a VAMO V6 and for the most part it's worked well, but I am having a few problems that are freaking me out a little. I have been switching between an aerotank w/1.8 ohm dual coils and a Protank 2 Mini w/2.2 ohm coil.

This morning I had the Protank 2 mini on it, and the first time I fired it is was fine for a second, but then it was like it got a sudden surge of heat and I felt a little pop in my mouth while the drip tip got real hot. I thought it was weird, but it worked normal for the next 10 minutes on my way to work. When I got to break, it started giving me a "without atomizer" message. I went home and grabbed a new coil head, 2.2 ohm, turned it down to about 3 volts, fired it, and the same thing happened, only this time it game me the "without atomizer" message right after.

Any idea what's happening?

The "without atomizer" message indicates that the processor can't "see" that an atomizer coil is attached and therefore can't measure its resistance. This could be a coil short or burnt out coil, or the 510 connections are not making an electrical connection.

Check your Vamo's 510 connector and clean it with some alcohol if any old juice has accumulated. You also may need to "tease" or nudge up the center pin with a precision screw driver or nail file if you have been over-tightening your tanks. Come to think about it, check the tank's center pins and make adjustments there, too.

Thanks Baditude. The thing that concerns me though is initially it works, but then gets real hot, pops, and then the message starts coming up. If it's making contact at first doesn't that mean that the pin is making contact, but shorting out the coil or something? I'm a newb, but it seems like if it was the pin not making contact, it would show me the without atomizer message right off the bat wouldn't it?

Maybe or maybe not. Not sure if they have fixed (upgraded) it or not, but the older model Vamo's had 510 connectors made of a soft metal like aluminum, not stainless steel. It wasn't uncommon for a tank to look crooked on a older Vamo due to wear and tear. It was so common that owners would tell new owners to use a 510-to-510 connector adaptor to save the threads on a new Vamo.

A short in the coil is the most likely culprit of your symptoms. The coil is fine until it gets so hot, then is unable to sustain its connectivity (wire expansion from the heat?). It will probably eventually short out completely.

Tip: Don't over-tighten the coil head in your tank, and also don't let it be too loose. Its a fine line.

510 thead / centerpin contact problems.

1: First: as a general practice, best not to put a lot of wear and tear on any 510 thread regulated mod.

2: Heres what a tank on top a mod like the vamo might look like: notice the gap:

To preserve your 510 thread interface, unscrew the collar at the top of the mod so that it locks onto the tank above it, and closes the gap like this:

3: VW mode:
when you use vw mode, the mod periodically tests for ohms; if because of connection problems it detects high ohms, it can end up firing high voltage; so inconsistent extra ohms between the coil and the mod would cause you inconsistent power.

Thanks guys. I'll go home and try some things..see if I can't getting working better.

edyle - what you said about the mod detecting high ohms makes me wonder if that's actually what's happening because I have my display set to display resistance always and it does seem to be pretty consistent, but I remember that both times this has happened, it was the first time firing after turning it on. Would this maybe have something to do with it? Do I need to let it think for a minute after I turn it on?

One more question - does it sound like something unsafe is going on here? I'm worried the thing is gonna randomly explode in my face or something.

Before firing, hold down the right button to measure resistance; that will check resistance without firing the mod.
You could also try using VV mode so that the mod does not keep changing voltage on you .

oh wait; are you using vv mode already? that's important for troubleshooting.

The V6 does not have VV mode only VW, and the right button no longer is used to check resistance. I do have the mod set to show the resistance on the main display though, so it shows anytime I hit the fire button.

Are you sure the right button does not show resistance.

Hold down the right button.

If you press the right button and let go, it will raise wattage by 0.5
If you press the right button and do not let go, the screen will be blank for a couple seconds then it will show ohms without firing the coil.
This has been one of the + features of vamos - the ability to check ohms without firing coil

edyle - I read that that was how it was supposed to function too, before I even joined the forum, but then through furthering reading, and trying it out myself on my ownVAMO, I found out that that function was not passed on from the V5. If I hold the right button down on mine, it stays blank for a while and then displays what I think is the chip model number or something - m353a. I've tried and tried holding it down but that's all that ever happens no matter how long.
