Are you a former smoker? It is the nicotine that most people go thru the withdrawl from. A lot of vapers use 0 nicotine. They like the vaping just for the flavors. I am a former smoker and a newbie here also. I quit smoking analogs (cigs) one month ago. I was smoking 2 pks a day for the last 36 yrs. I now vape pretty much chain vaping. I am using mostly 24 - 18mg nicotine juice. I plan on decreasing over time. So it is up to you. Some people feel without the nicotine they have no throat hit. But up to now the lowest juice I have is 12mg so I can not say that from experience. This forum is great for answering questions. Use it frequently. After so many posts I think 12 or so you will be able to post in all forums. And with 20 I think you can get into the classifieds to buy or sell items. There is a link where it tells you how to become verified and how many posts you need. How this helps.

lol.

Welcome to ECF.

Worse. Don't be afraid of the nic right now. Just skip the other 1000's of chemicals in cigs and vape some nic. It's a withdrawal process....and some of us are more addicted to the "Other Stuff" in cigs than others of us. So...your personal need for nic may vary. That said...I'll bet you WILL go through some withdrawal even while vaping nic.

I'm going on 3 years...and am just starting to reduce my nic levels. Others have done it sooner of course, and others never intend to. But make sure you give yourself some time to "get over" the cigs.

The withdrawal hit heaviest around weeks 2 and 3 for me (if I remember properly) so.....hang in there and don't be scared of nic...give vaping a chance to work.

Just my :2c:

Don't go into vaping without nicotine right after you quit smoking, definitely going to go through withdrawals that'll make you pick up another cigarette. Depending on how much you smoke, adjust the nicotine dosage appropriately.

1 pack per day - 24mg nicotine (some sites have it at 36mg, might be too much but get what works for you)
1/2 pack per day - 18mg nicotine
3-5 cigs per day w/Marlboro lights - 12mg nicotine
Social smoker, occasional cigarette - 6mg nicotine

I personally was a light smoker for 6 years but enjoy mixing 12mg with 18mg nicotine.

BEST ADVICE: Start with a high dosage of nicotine, then work your way down. Your goal is to quit the cigarette, not the habbit! Vaping is harmless, so I suggest you start high and if you want to, eventually bring it down to 0mg nicotine.

I agree with not trying to go nic free. How much nic depends on how much you used to smoke and what kind of cigs. BUT what I found was that in the beginning I needed a bit LESS nic (18 mg or even 12 mg). Due to the fact that an e-cig never "goes out", I was vaping WAY too much and gave myself a headache! After I had got the hang of vaping, I had to bump the nic up a bit (24 mg) to get over some cravings. I find I vape less often now with higher nic. And remember to drink a LOT of water especially in the beginning when you are detoxing from cigs.

Best of luck! :)

Hi friendlyfire, I stopped smoking 12 days ago also! I smoked 20 cigarettes a day for 33 years. When I started vaping 12 days ago I was on 18mg tobacco flavour. Now I've mixed my 18mg with a 0mg to produce roughly a 9mg juice. I've found it easy so far managing without real cigarettes...but in a week or more ...who knows! I've no intentions of re smoking. Just keep the faith that i will stop.
