I have been using Genny attys exclusively for a while now. I have no problem making a wick and wrapping a coil on it that lights up evenly with no hotspots when dry. My builds work really nice for a day or two then many times they begin to develops hotspots. The hotspots are almost always on the top coil or the lead from the top coil to the positive post. What am I doing wrong? I can usually work the hotspot out but it doesn't last after a fee times it's just easier to wrap a new coil. Shouldn't a good working build last more than a couple of days without problems? I need advise, I'm burning through Kanthal!

This is common and can be very frustrating. In addition to the positive lead being too tight it's important to make sure both legs are the same length (not always easy to do). In addition the coil should be touching the wick but not too tight. AGA-Ts are notorious for this problem. RSSTs are much more forgiving.

Thanks, another thing for me to try. Why do you think it takes a day or two for my hotspots to develop? Most of my builds work really well for the first day or two.

Rather than create my own, I'm going to post my issue here.

I've got the AGA-T2. 30G Kanthal. 400 mesh SS. Rolled it. Oxidized it. Fits snugly in the hole. Wrapped the coil on the screw (assume negative post?). Ran the wire to the wick. 4 or 5 wraps. And tighten on the center post. Measure it, 2.5 ohms. Steady (meaning the MM isn't jumping all over the place). Fire it up, and the top leg is on FIRE. (Exaggerating). But it's the hot spot/ hot leg. I've moved the coils around, moved the wick closer, further from the center post. Can't get rid of it.

Using an eFest IMR 18650. Didn't measure the voltage. And it's on a roughstack (yeah, she sure is ugly like this, but it gets the job done at this point). Any help would be appreciated. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get rid of this hot leg.

Thanks for reading.
