Hi, I have a friend's Microstick here that isn't working correctly.

First off, it autofires if the switch is screwed in all the way so that screw on the bottom must be making contact with the battery. It has the extension on it, and I put an AW 18490 battery in it.

It won't lock. I'm guessing because I can't screw the switch in.

I'm going to disassemble it tomorrow and clean it. Maybe I should replace the screws? I know the spring probably needs replaced.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Does the switch button move up and down when it's not screwed in to the MicroStick? Can you lock and unlock the switch when it's not screwed in to the MicroStick? The button screw should only protrude a millimeter or so when fully screwed in - does that describe what yours is like? Is the spring affixed to the Delrin on the switch so it is insulated from it?

Yes, it does move up and down when not screwed in.

No, I can't seem to lock it on or off.

Yes, the spring is attached to the delrin, but she says its very weak compared to the one on her other Microstick.

Does it auto fire if you hold it upside down where gravity would normally open the switch and prevent the button screw from making contact with the battery? If it doesn't auto fire when held upside down then I think that you can conclude that the spring is too weak to push up the button and the screw away from the battery. Otherwise, I think that something else is going on.

In case you don't know, the button is supposed to screw in counterclockwise to lock it.

It does not auto fire upside down, so I'm hoping a new spring will solve this.

Do you think I need to order from Mini ecig or do you think I could source it locally?

I suggest that you order a brass switch screw too - I find that they're more conductive and suffer from less voltage loss than the stock SS screw. Their website allows you to add on to an existing order if you choose the "Add Spare Parts to Existing Order" item under Accessories.

Longer screws would be needed with the extension in order to reach the screw holes in the bottom of the MicroStick, but I can't imagine that they could contribute to auto-firing issues. I hadn't noticed that the switch screw would back out, but I did for the first time experience it the other day, and it would shorten the throw and could definitely cause auto-firing issues.
