Hi I am looking for some help with my new Oracle ohms meter. This is the first meter i have used and I am new to RBA .

I am building on a Aquav2 , and Friday I made a dual coil build out of 28 gauge 7/8 wraps and tested it . It came in at .55 ohms I thought I did everything right .

Last night Sunday I was having a problem the unit would not "fire" I changed the battery and played with the coils and it started working again . Today Monday I just wanted to test the ohms again out of curiosity and found that my meter was giving me weird reading . The first time I plugged it in it read 1.55 ohms, ok strange so I unscrewed it and screwed it back in and it read 3.5 ohms and jumped back and forth so unscrewed it again and tried again this time 2.3 to 2.8 .

My main questions are as follows :

1 : Will the juice I have on the coils plus the cotton mess with the ohms readings , Why are they different every time I plug it in ?

2 : after the coils fires and I let go of the button I see a small stream of smoke /vapor coming from the whole on my positive and negative posts not alot but a little , is this normal ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Brad (noob)

You shouldn't get that much variance in a resistance reading - maybe 0.2 ohms on a moderate build like 1.55. Too low of resistance typically means you've got a mini-short somewhere; the coils touching something they shouldn't. Too high typically means a bad connection; ohm meter 510 screwy, threads gunky, etc.

Juice and wick shouldn't affect the resistance, but dry burning the coil tends to add a little resistance, since the Kanthal forms the oxidization layer that isolates the wraps from one another.

First thing I would check is the 510 pin on your atomizer. Not familiar with the Aqua 2, but if the pin is adjustable, it may be "adjusting" itself every time you screw / unscrew the tank. That can cause some wide variation in the resistance reading.

Also be sure the lead screws are tight and check them often. For instance, on my Kayfun I'll install the coil and tighten the screws, then I'll lift the coil and tighten the screws, then trim the leads and tighten the screws, the squeeze the coil and tighten the screws...get the idea?
