So Cal
I just got the Joye 510 and I'm loving it. However it seems to be quite a bit to start out, for example I got the starter kit and already got some carts, blue filling and 2 atomizers to make sure I stay on the 510 and not analogues.

I have been a heavy smoker (pack/day) but I have been cutting back lately to something around pack/day and a half.

Well I have 2 questions.
#1. Do you think there is anything pressing I need to make sure I don't trip up? (i.e. would 1 battery stop working? Should I have 2?)

#2. I kind of think the generic whatever juice I got is pretty bad. I can deal, but I am overwhelmed, way overwhelmed, by the juice online. Anyone have some suggestions on how to try out some flavors?
One site I ordered from had 75+ and I think they may be lower quality, but I also cut down on analogues because of price, so I don't want to spend too much more than those would cost, just so hard it seems like to try a few good few juices...

you should have a least 4 batteries when they fail they never sent you a warning and you can't do it with only one , are you ready to way the 2 hour charging time without vaping ,

Flavors, if you are on the tobacco ones , try the 555 and the weird french pipe but not all the time or they are going to become unflavored to you , it could be better switching flavors , a light one most of the time and the stonge one when you realy crave

Didn't you receive two batteries with your kit? Or perhaps you meant that you now have only one battery charging while you are vaping the other. I agree with liscab that a total of four batteries is a good idea, although I would set the minimum at three batteries: if one fails, you can still cycle the remaining two while you are waiting for replacements to arrive.

If you are out in the world much, a PCC would stand you in good stead (charging your other battery and holding an atty and a couple cartridges). Or if you are sick of frequently charging batteries, consider upgrading to the high mAh eGO, Riva, or Hello 016, which all use your 510 atomizer. [The Hello 016 is the latest on the scene, highest mAh, and (ironically) lowest cost of that group. I don't know, one way or the other, about its quality.]

The choices in e-liquid are indeed a bit overwhelming. Part of the problem is that everyone's tastes are different. To say that I love Marlboro and Turkish American Blend (even the ubiquitous DeKang-made juice) doesn't help you one little bit. You might prefer French Pipe (which I hate) or non-tobacco juices or only USA-made e-liquid. Therefore you need to take all e-liquid reviews with many grains of salt ... at least until you've identified reviewers whose preferences seem to be similar to yours.

One objective criteria is cost. candre23's sortable, searchable chart of many US-based suppliers of e-liquid (not necessarily USA-made) by cost and shipping charges is a useful tool. [It can be misleading, however. For example, Tasty Vapor is shown as 50¢ / ml, but that is the cost of the nicotine e-liquid and doesn't take into consideration the cost savings of their Doublers. Or Cignot's price is based on only one of their lines of juice, not on their less expensive Boge e-liquid.]

I suggest starting with sampler size bottles in various flavors to see which you like best. I've just mentioned Cignot. Their Boge ("Other PG" and "Other VG"), ECOpure, and BASIC lines are available in 5-ml or 3-ml bottles (as well as larger ones). I recently put together a (non-exhaustive) list of suppliers of sampler sizes of tobacco-flavored eliquid. Many also have non-tobacco samplers.

  • e-Liquid Planet: Tobacco Sampler Packs A and B

  • eSmokerOnline: Tobacco Sample Packs #1, 2, and 3

  • DIY Flavor Shack: Six Pack of 6 ml bottles (you choose among five nicotine levels and scores of flavors)

  • myFreedomSmokes: Same deal as above.

  • NHaler: A large selection of 6 ml bottles, in three different lines: 12mg High Voltage, 10mg Octane, 24mg Nhale/Xhale.

  • VaporBomb: Various 5 ml bottles.

  • Viking Vapor: 7.5 ml bottles in two different tobacco lines: Tobacco Flavors and Signature Flavors.

  • Good Prophets: "New Liquid" 5 ml bottles.
It may be even more cost-effective to order some 10 ml sizes (not usually considered “sample” size) from one of the inexpensive suppliers, e.g., LitecigUSA, Vapor Country, Rocky Mountain Vapor and Good Prophets (New Liquid and USA Made).

Enjoy the adventure!
