Finally got my Mutation X V4 in the mail along with some 26 gauge kanthal and some organic unbleached cotton to get some vaping and learning in.. built my first double coil build and wicked it the best I could for it being my first time and here is what it looks like and here is my problems I'm seeing so far..

This is what my air flow is looking like for both sides:

I believe each wrap I did was 5 wraps around the little blue screw driver and it's reading around .3 ohms (the lowest my device can go) The hits I'm taking don't seem so flavorful at all, in fact it's not tasting burnt but maybe sorta dry? I've been messing around with the air flow to see what would work best for the flavor but I'm not able to really tell a difference of it helping the flavor any at all... Any ideas and suggestions on what I could be doing wrong and where I need to improve on the building and wicking to get this baby a little better? Would love for the flavor to be better.. any help and criticism is welcome, thanks!

Also two other newbie questions :D... When I'm vapping at a higher wattage what is that actually doing, would the flavor be better than it would at a lower wattage or what? I know it gets the coils hotter quicker thus for getting more vapor but that's pretty much all I know. How many times should I be dripping (roughly) through each of the hits I take.. I know it's personal with how hard of hits you'd be taking and such but is the only way to know when you need to drip more in the wicks is when it's starting to taste dry and burnt or what? Thanks guys. Oh and sometimes when I'm pressing the fire button it hits for a second and stops and the ohms are just blinking.. would this be because the ohms are too low for my device or what? The device is supposed to only go down to .3 and that's what I'm at so I'm not sure why it'd do that.

I normally adjust the wattage depending of what I want to taste. The juice changes flavor at different temps. Like dessert flavors I'll crank up the heat. Fruity stuff I'll run lower. Yeah the device is saying the resistance is too low.

That side airflow is useless when you're using the bottom airflow unless everything is wide open. You can see that the side doesn't line up with the coils at all. Something you could try is closing the bottom airflow off a little to line up your side airflow, or just use the side airflow/bottom airflow only.
Actually the side works great for me. I open it just enough to cool the vapor some, like a turbine effect.

I could be wrong, but it looks to me as though in your second picture, the top coil is 5 wraps and the bottom is 6 wraps. This would mean that your coils are not heating at the same rate.

It also appears that you have some excess kanthan on each coil. I speak of the legs running to the negative posts.

I'm guessing that's part of the subox kit. You were using a STM prior? Same pg/vg? Has your wattage increased?

Hello Kevin :) as was suggested befor i would close off the bottom airflow, line up the coils to the side airflow, also how are your coils firing up? any hot spots and so on, want them to fire evenly and from the centre out, i still remember my first coil build, what a mess lol, but keep at it and they will get better. Happy Vaping :)

I don't doubt that I accidentally under wrapped one but they're completely heating up at the same rate . Yeah, I should've clipped that little bit of excess before taking the picture but I've clipped that excess.. it's difficult to get in there and cut it all back with fingernail clippers so I'm defiantly going to need to invest in some wire cutters that will :3. Yeah, I'm new to vaping so to say.. started out with the vision spinner 2 battery and a crappy clearomizer and knew vaping would help me quit smoking cigs and it did but I knew I needed more vapor production to never think of cigarettes for some odd reason, so I upgraded the Kbox mini kit a week after using the vision spinner and have loved it so far but can tell I'll need an upgrade in the future. I was using the STM, went and messed around with the RTA section and switched back and forth from the RTA section to the premade coil heads and this Mutation is my first actual RDA. Using same pg/vg, I think the reason why I was getting god awful taste is because I used juice that needs further steeping I believe and I've tried another juice with a lot better flavor so that's a plus c: I've been messing around with the wattage quite a bit since I was limited to low wattage using the tank but with this RDA I feel like I can vape it on max watts my device can use :3.

I'm running a 26awg dual coil at 7 wraps I believe for a .55 ohms and I use bottom airflow and 1-1.5 slots open on each of the sides at 75w and she hits like a truck and taste amazing. This is actually the first time I've been completely satisfied with a build on any of my devices and I don't see myself changing it for a little while. I actually smiled first time I hit it on this build haha
