I ordered my Protege the other day and though I won't be getting it until the new run is ready for shipping, I want to get some xtra batteries for it ahead of time so I can always have 2 charged ones ready to go.
I did not think about this at the time I ordered the Kit and I would hate to have to pay shipping on these since it would be a seperate order from the kit.

The Protege kit I ordered comes with 2 x Tenergy Lith-Ion batteries (Non-Protected -- Rated at 3.7v - 900mAh)
I don't know the difference, sorry:-(

A) Is it better and safer to find 2 Protected batteries, and, if so, where do I buy them quickly? Without shipping costs doubling the cost). Please post a link so I don't order wrong ones.
or
B) Do I just order 2 more of the same batteries from Puresmoker?
14500 Li-Ion Battery (3.7v - 900mAh)
I assume that these are the same exact batteries as the ones coming with the kit?
http://www.puresmoker.com/product_p/batt14500.htm

I would also like for any extra batteries to work with the charger that comes with the Protege Kit!!!

Thanks for any help anyone can give me:)

Almost any li-ion 14500 battery should work both in the Protege and the charger. The one's on the Puresmoker site are the same ones that come in the kit. You can get them elsewhere a bit cheaper, but I just added a couple spares to a juice order so I didn't have to pay shipping and would get them quickly. Some places like deal extreme will take weeks.

Are protected batteries safer in the Protege? Let's not start that discussion again! ;-)

Here is the thread - decide for yourself:

I ordered these and they were 23 bucks for 4 of them shipped...

Is there a reason that you didn't order from PS when you ordered the Protege? I just ask because they are roughly the same price, but they are 3.6v and the PS batteries are 3.7v and both are unprotected. Just curious if I am missing something.

When I ordered my Protege last week, they were out of stock on the extra batteries to go with it. I just ordered an extra atomizer to push the free shipping amount and then ordered extra batts from Battery Junction.

I totally did not think of ordering extra batteries when I placed my order. Don't ask me why not, just never crossed my mind until I wrote the post above.

But in a way, it's ok I forgot because I prefer to get protected ones for my second set anyways.

These are cheap, protected, and work, but quality control sucks, but basically any batty you buy like this comes from China. Takes about 2 weeks to get.
DealExtreme: $5.64 TrustFire Protected 3.7V 900mAh 14500 Lithium Battery (2-Pack)
Extra Charger right here DealExtreme: $8.81 TrustFire All-in-One Charger (for 10430/10440/14500/16340 /17670/18650/CR123A)

Granted all of this is cheaper than buying from someone in the US because they need to make their markup and profit margins too. So if you have the time to wait and have spares, these are great prices. Ultimately, it's all originating in China.

just call them and ask if they can include the extra battys with your protege when it ships. maybe you could pay them with PP for the extras.

Doesnt the Protege just use 1-14500 batty? If you have 2 you wont need another for a little while.

14500's are protected battys.

This is what it says for the Protege:
2 x Tenergy Lith-Ion Batteries (Non-Protected -- Rated at 3.7v - 900mAh)

If the xtra batteries PS sells are protected:

I would gladly order from PS instead. Are they protected?

The kit comes with 2 batts - the Protege takes one. They'll likely last you longer than it takes to charge another - after the initial charge. The Tenergy specs say they're protected from over-discharge down to 2.75v and the charger will protect from over-discharge, though I'd never leave a battery charging when leaving the house or when I'm asleep - protected or otherwise.

These are cheap, protected, and work, but quality control sucks...

Any defective or damaged cell (protected or not) can have an uncontrolled chemical reaction leading to fire or explosion. Rare but CAN happen. I'll stay away from the xtra cheep batteries and stick with the Tenergy's.

Nice long thread about all this here:

So I will have a spare battery to begin with :) Thank you for letting me know. I assumed that the Protege takes 2 batts at a time.

Now I have time to order xtra ones after seeing how long each one last me.

I ordered the bare bones kit and the batteries were out of stock at the moment...
