You put as much juice in as the filler material in the cartridge will hold without pooling at the top of the filler material. If it pools at the top, just dab it with a paper towel or tissue.

The problem is, if you are just putting drops right on top of the filler material that comes with the cartridge, it isn't going to sink to the bottom without a little help. You can use the straw modification, or you can use a toothpick or paper clip to push the filler aside a little bit so that it can breath while you are putting in the drops. Some people use a syringe or a needle tipped dropper bottle to get all the way down to the bottom of the cartridge.

And I have found that if you replace the stock filler material with blue foam, you can actually put the drops right in if you tilt the cartridge to the side while doing so, but that is probably a bit more than you want to bite off and chew right now.

And dont worry if your 510 atty gets hot - its ok - they do that - it won't hurt them - just dont put them down on exposed skin..

Just watch for a burned, foul taste, that usually means you need to top off your cart. Atts hate to run dry and they will tell you by taste when they need more juice.

I found the syringe method really works well in filling carts, as DC2 pointed out. I also like the syringe because it gives me a lot better control. If I get to much pooling of the liquid, I can suck some of it back into the syringe.

Again as DC2 pointed out, blue filter works wonders. The only point to watch out for is the guage of the needle. Most pharmacies only stock down to 21 guage, and that is way too small to suck up the viscous e juices. 18 guage is about the smallest that will work (size gets bigger as guage gets smaller), and it will not suck up VG. 18 works fine with mixtures of PG/VG.

You can get them at most Tractor Supply stores
