I just got a joye 510-t starter kit from litecigusa and the batteries were not charged . the kit did not include a manual so i figured i would use the wall charger it came with. when i plugged it in the led was red . after about an hour the led light on the charger still being red, the battery started melting very badly .. it was sizzling loud. so i took the batery out. only thing i could think of that went wrong was maybe that i plugged the wall charger into a extension cord? or it was over charged? i dont know how it would be overcharged tho because the light was still red..

should i even try to charge the other battery but plug it into the wall this time? does anyone know what happened or what i did wrong?

thanks

My guess is that sent you an eGo charger for your 510 battery. That will do it anyway. Can you post pictures of your battery and charger? Put a quarter in the photo so we can judge sizes. A 510 charger like a 2" square with a rounded end, making it almost 3 inches in length. The eGo charger is more square, like an inch by an inch and a half.. The wall adapters look about the same.

An eGo charger will burn up a 510 batt.

Sounds defective. It happens occasionally. They are a good vendor - they'll take care of you. I would want the wall charger, charger cable and the battery replaced. The same problem can happen if they gave you a real 510-T auto charging cable and a normal 510 battery. The auto 510-T charging cable does not know when to stop charging normal 510 batteries and has even killed some Ego batteries.

And for future reference - a real Joye 510-T auto battery charging cable is different and can damage any normal 510 or Ego batteries. However, the auto 510-T battery can be charged in normal 510 chargers and PCC's.

One other note - Ego chargers (also 510-threaded) put out 420mA of power vs the 150-250mA the slim 510 chargers put out. An Ego charger will damage slim 510 batteries (but in my experience, slowly)

Also never ever use random 510-threaded charging cables on 510 batteries - some 510-threaded models (like FS510 or Blu or Trio or Volcano's "Volcano" model) are reverse electrical polarity and their chargers will fry a 510.
