My boyfriend and I are still new to vaping. I have completely stuck with vaping while he still mostly smokes. He asked me this question the other day and I'm hoping someone can help me answer it.

"why does my cigarette have no taste and all of these (Eliquids) have a taste/terrible taste?"

(he smokes Winston lights)

The answer to that is included in your question. ".... he smokes ....".

Smoking destroys your taste buds.

There's also the possibility you have some nasty juices. :)

His sense of taste and smell have been placed on the 'disabled list' by smoking, and it takes a while to regain them. He continues to smoke, so those two senses aren't as sharp as they could be right now. That's one possibility.

E-juice flavors are subjective; what you may like, he can't stand. A flavor that rings his bell may make you want to puke. I've found that most of the best e-juice flavors aren't those pretending to be (some sort of) 'tobacco' simulation, but are instead bakery, drink, or fruit flavors. Maybe you can find some you'll both enjoy. :)

His taste buds are shot or you don't have his flavor of juice. I don't care for most of the flavors either even after 3 years of vaping. I would also suggest that he might simply not be willing to even give it a fair chance. He is an addict and with addiction comes denial. If he is not ready to quit nothing in the world is going to change his mind. I have a few friends that have tried vaping but 100% refuse to give it a fair shake. Maybe when he wakes up and can't catch a breath or can't even go for a walk he will see the value in vaping vs smoking.

My first thought is the "taste/terrible taste" thing has to be sorted out. Even as damaged as my taste buds were when I first started, there was definitely a huge taste difference for the better. I was going to suggest ordering a few samplers from the Want2Vape Vapenstein line, but that would be better left until his question can be sorted out as to the true answer.

That's another dilemma I'm having - he kinda likes the "fruity" eliquids (pinacolada, watermelon etc.) but not as a replacement. I have found that I can not vape any of them as the throat hit feels terrible.

I think out of all the different types I have found only 2 that I really like and a couple that are ok.

For him, I have found 1 (other than fruity flavors which he won't use constantly). That 1 that I have found is only "ok" to him.

Flavors tried (all 18mg)-

Vapor Kings
-VK Red & White
-Winsome
-555
-Kamel
-Congress
-Ry4
-Mad Cow
-PinaColada
-Watermelon

Halo
-Torque 56
-Prime 15
-Tribeca
-HX3
-Captain Jack
-Midnight Apple
-Freedom

Local Shop
-7 leaf
-Tobacco
-Menthol tobacco

Out of all of the above he says the "Tobacco" is the best. He likes the Mad Cow/PinaColada/Watermelon but not as a constant. He was vaping only for the first week or so but the original E-cig I bought leaked like crazy and once I *fixed* that issue I couldn't find any flavors that he really liked.

My favorite is the VK Red & White followed by the 7 leaf. Kamel and 555 or ok. Absolutely cannot stand the throat hit on any of the "fruity/other" type flavors. I thought I might like 2 of the Halo flavors and then i tried them seperately more than once and decided they were terrible :)

Sounds like he's looking for something that tastes like a cigarette. He's going to be looking for a long time if so.
Exactly. He needs to understand there is no e-cigarette or e-juice that can reproduce a burning tobacco cigarette flavor or "hit". Vaping and smoking are two different things. Vaping can deliver nicotine in a manner that closely replicates the hand-to-mouth smoking behavior and the sensation of warm vapor filling the lungs. But vaping will not and can not replicate what tobacco smoke and all the hundreds of chemicals present in it has.

Its really a trade off. How bad does he REALLY want to quit smoking? If his intentions are not fully into quitting, then vaping will never fulfill his urges. But if he is sincerely serious about quitting for his health, he needs to realize the trade off.

A quick tip for new vapors. When inhaling an e-cig, suck in vapor into the mouth as if sucking on a milkshake (not directly into the lungs). Most of the nicotine in vapor is absorbed in the mouth, throat, and nasal passageways, NOT in the lungs like cigarette smoke.

When exhaling the vape, slowly exhale through both the mouth AND NOSE. Much of our sense of taste is realized through our sense of smell. That's why when we have a nasal cold we have difficulty tasting food. Knowing this may improve the taste of some of your e-juice.
