I know at one time the Volt was the best, then the Smoov came out and it was favored by many. Has anything better come along? Im not sticking him with a stick battery dont worry. Im explaining the pros and cons of all styles, giving him links to the best of each style and letting him decide. Hes a 60 yr old very, very low tech guy so its got to be a very non-fiddly setup. In fact his wife will likely be setting up his tanks, carts, etc. He's more like my father than my father was so I'm stoked he's switching.

I would like to set him up with a tank system like the eGo-c but ive never heard good things about any of them. The simplicity would be perfect for him. Ill likely go with a twist and the evod or mini protank2 for the ego style then a sigelei V5 and BDC for a mod.

My wife and I started about 13 months ago...60 years old...40+ year smoker...2-3 pad. I started with Volts and cartos and they worked great for me. I moved up to the bigger X2 batteries after a couple of months, but continued to use mostly cartos for the first 8 months. I use different clearos now, but I still use the smaller cig-sized and 400-650 mAh batts from SI and Halo.

I've always tried to get more of a low tech, no fuss kind of setup. But, I prefer manuals over autos. I bought one of each with my first order and immediately though the manual was more like "real" smoking.

I found the biggest issue was the juice not the equipment. As my taste and sense of smell came back, I went thru 7-8 vendors and well over 50 flavors before I found some that worked.

I can't compare anything other than Smokeless Image and Halo, so YMMV.

Evod/twist/spinners are easiest to use (no small parts, fill-n-vape) but since you're asking for mini's, I'll nominate the eRoll/Ovale mini as probably the best mini out there. Tank system (albeit very small, will need a needle nosed bottle to fill if you're not good with small parts) so that you can use any juice. Get an extra cone to make 2 units so that while one is being used, the other is charging. PCC is the size of an iphone, so you can keep it (and the charging batt) in your pocket.

You can prefill tanks and keep them in a pill box for easy change-out during the day. Great vapor (just like a cig), often better vapor production than an ego (seriously!), and regulated so it never wimps out as the battery discharges.

I am going to be honest I started with the EGO-C tank system and it was NOTHING but a frustrating nightmare. Inside 2 weeks I was hunting for something better.

The heads are expensive. Clog easily and one good puff on a clogged head = fried head and burnt taste you cannot get rid of. THey are nearly impossible to clean well.

Also they leak. They leak alot. I even tried the special soft seal endcaps and they still leaked.

The batterys were great and mine are still going. The tank system SUCKS.

The smoov 650 passthrough was my first stick battery. The first one failed in a weeks time. It was heating the clearo so it was warm to the touch even in the off position. Took it back the guy thought I was nuts. I said fine, put any clearo on from your tasting bar. He did and after 5 minutes it was warm to the touch even in the off position just as I had said. He replaced it with another new one out of the box. The second one I had for around two weeks before the button went faulty. I won't buy any more smoov products. Hope this helps.
