@ JuniorNA, Use some thing harder, Home Depot in the hardware dept has a good selection of nylon washers.

Or you may have a few of these around the house, carefully cut the end with a razor knife and make sure it's flat. Typical cheap wall anchor, got to be the right size of coarse.

In some of my early pics of Term this part can be seen (before I went to Home Depot)as seen in this post I did a couple of days ago:

Perfect idea - thanks DW - so far it's working ok now that I stopped over tightening - but I'll go to Home Depot tomorrow and look for some nylon washers - no wall anchors right now - but it won't stop me from searching the man cave just in case I threw one In a drawer somewhere

Thanks for ur help folks.

My setup is working pretty good now, cept one lil issue;

Theres this odd taste that makes my mouth a lil itchy, i wonder if it might be the nichrom readywire thingy? i always stick to kanthal but since i wanted readywires i didnt have much of a choice. I didnt torch the wire first, maybe i should have?

2nd possibility is that the taste is from all the silicia, i didnt torch that either first.

How many tanks do u normally have to go thru before u break a new setup in?

The most common cause of this, at least that's happened to me, is if I have one or more wraps that aren't making good contact with the wick... so they stick out, and kind of glow red with no juice on them, that makes for a pretty bad taste imho.

If worst comes to worst, drain the tank, rinse it out, and then dry burn it a bit. That will also show you if anything is glowing in a weird way (should glow from center of the coil out)

You can also put juice on it while it's open and test fire, if all is working well you should NOT see anything glow red.

You guys are gonna think I'm crazy but after this last build / 2x 2.0 ohm coils I don't feel it's pushing max vape . I checked for shorts and checked resistance but it doesn't feel like it's getting at full 4 volts on my chi you clone .

I have and igo L and trident and it's easy to test voltage output on those / one wire on each post and fire and the mod is still pushing out 3.8 on a fully charged battery / I don't have one of those in line testers that go between the ithaka and the mod but I can just feel that it's a weaker vape and not as cloud like as my first build . I guess I'll take it apart it maybe the 510 connection from the herc to the mod is not a good connection ? Not sure but Something is different

You know what - vent and blabber time - i have enough sleepless nights with 10 month old twins sucking the life out of me - I'm sick and tired of spending 2 hours to get a decent build only to feel it wasn't as good as the last one

I end up smoking a cig while building coils cause I'm so stressed - that's not what vaping is about . I'm supposed to not want to smoke and enjoy the flavors - not pull my hair out thinking if ceramic cups are lined up correctly - pm me if you want the herc - otherwise It's going in the "annoying" drawer .

Gonna get a kayfun light clone and I just hot a mister silica hybrid - 2 minute build and it's 100 times better than any herc vape I've had

Rant over - sleep time

I apologize if you have already mentioned this, but have you tried the "x" coils? The guys in this thread have forgotten more about the Ithaka-type atty than I have ever known, BUT I did get a great vape right off the bat with 3mm silica, ready wires, and the "x" method. For what these things are selling for now, you might be better off to just hold on to it and try again at a later date. I will not try to talk you out of the Kayfun clone, as I have one ordered now.:toast:

Agree with all of the above, including ordering the Kayfun clone from FT, that is TOO good a deal to pass up.

BTW, I found these at Home Depot, perfect for helping to secure the positive wires and helping to prevent the bottom o-ring from distorting. The hole in the washer is a PERFECT fit without modification.

Or, like me, why not just do a single coil with a readywire? im totally new to these devices since i been a strictly gennie user, but i didnt have much of a hassle getting it going and the vapor and flavour is pretty much on par with a gennie. Dont throw in the towel just yet, start at the easy end and rather go dual or quad or whatever if that aint working for u.

What kayfun clone are u guys talking about? The FT clone is that the rocket? i ordered that a while ago just cuz it was cheap, but still havent arrived.

It will be interesting to see if all the parts interchange with the original as they do with the FT Ithaka clone and the original

Yes, time will tell!

BTW, I got the Herc working a lot better. Combo of 3mm instead of 2mm wick, the washer for the bottom o-ring, and I did the mod on the ceramic nut. All making it work much better without the gurgle / leaking I had before.

I thought having brass in contact with the juice was a no no. If you have the drain holes open in the ceramic cup than any juice that gets wicked back up would have been in contact with the brass. Maybe they have the same size in SS.

I use nylon ones but I guess I've already said that, the same one can be used as the insulator on the positive post also.
I do have to twirl the tip of my knife around in it a couple of times before it will slid on were the o-ring sits.

If the brass has any lead in it, it's not a good idea to have it come in contact with the juice. Brass is an alloy of copper & zinc, with other metals added depending on intended use, including lead. Lead can be toxic, even in relatively small quantities...you DO NOT want to inhale it. The symptoms of lead poisoning include hair-loss & loosening of teeth, and even madness. That being said- I shot muzzle-loading muskets and melted & cast my own pure lead bullets for years...other than loosing my hair, I didn't seem to suffer too many other maladies (though my wife would say I do suffer from some forms of insanity  )

The only brass considered lead-free is Naval Brass (a very high-quality brass used in some high-end attys & drip-tips), and I highly doubt that the brass washers at the hardware store are of that quality.

Just get some stainless steel washers of the same size & use them instead.... you can usually find small/thin stainless washers at most hobby shops - especially those that specialize in Radio Control.
